The E39 Coastal Highway Route - a continuous route without ferries - is the largest transport project in Norwegian history.

Why no trains? 😞 Electric cars dont emmit CO2 bat they still are a shity way to get around. And for Truck Delivery for companys is really does not matter so much how long delivery time is as long it is consistent. You could reach the goals of connecting the western norway better together better by trains, they can run faster, and you only need one person for hunderts of freight containers or people to move.

You can already reach Trondheim from Kristiansand by public transport in 13 hours. This is just cutting the transport time for cars in half, which is beneficial. Apparently they also think this project will stop or slow the abandonment of the area by young people.

@@dutchmapping1 Hm if they really want to stop abondenment by young people then also a train would be better. The younger people tend to want more public transit. Yes a car can get you around, bit its always a financial burden, and as already mentioned, even EVs are worse to the environment than trains. Mircoplastic for example. (Still netto better than ICs tho)

While this is a massive (potential) project, likely the largest in modern times in Europe, it would also destroy what is so typically "Norway"; the amazing Fjordscape with the iconic ferries, allowing for a relaxed and peaceful crossing of nature's true wonders. And Norway's population is just too small to warrant these mega projects. Even if they can be "afforded" by the "oil riches", Norway is doing a lot via taxation to reduce road traffic, so I'm not really getting the "why" of project like this. Better would be to focus on smart ferry solutions - and export those ideas. Metropolitan areas like Seattle, also a very affluent area with a population over 4 M, struggled raising funds and design a meager 2.3 km floating bridge and a 2.8 km tunnel under downtown. Those projects ran way past budget - but were also needed as they are in areas with a large amount of road traffic. Norway just do not, not now, and not in the future, have the traffic volumes to warrant projects like these.

It is already began to be built a year ago. Anyways, thank you for sharing your concerns.

@@tamashubertvarga1068: one can only hope that the massive bridges are skipped - and that most of the existing (already pretty decent) infrastructure is used just as today - with a new moniker "E39"

The national roads are not there to look pretty for tourists, there are specific tourist roads and plenty of nice county roads for that. The national roads are supposed to transport people and cargo as efficiently and fast as possible from A to B. They facilitate commuters, industry and commerce. Good road infrastructure is essential to the economy. The slow traveling times, facilitated by bad national roads and slow ferry crossings, prevent the industry on the west coast from growing, in turn preventing Norway's economy to become more independent from oil. A continues national motorway system, amongst others connecting the vest coast and Trondheim to continental Europe is essential for the future the countries economy and thus for the Norwegians people welfare.

Yeah that's why i want there to be tunnels, but you've got to understand that national roads are made to go the quickest from a to b. But I've got to agree on the cost, projects like this with early estimates have a bad tendency to be overpriced

This will create a massive ver amount of jobs, and the shorter travel and increased economic potential will make it pay for itself in the long run

@@wellcraft19 I can't agree with you - this is a slow turtle for a fisherman. And my cubic wheels reject water: To the left 45 * - To the right 45 * and do not give inertia of water. It is possible to go on a water surface with a speed of 100 - 300 km h.
