In the current AliExpress Sale every seller got the information of E6+ coming in April with RK3566. Nothing to special. But they also mention E6S+ coming later this year with RK3588 and that one would have some power 💪 Will keep an eye out

Get the R36S for the same price instead. It is Game Boy format with the same chip and is better in every way. A wide-screen is wasted on a RK3326 chip considering the vast majority of playable games are 4:3 etc.

With AmberElec cfw it runs PSP games quite good for RK3326 chipset. NDS and DreamCast are platforms that can also benefit from widescreen display. I own R36S and can tell you that its screen is quite small for other than low-power arcade games.

If youre after an decent 5" handheld with the 3326 chipset then the Powkiddy RGB10 Max 2 is prob the best choice still. Runs custom linux too. Better choice over android for a device with these specs. 🤔 Or is there a better choice?

This is already at the $45 point... personally I want to see how cheap they can go, something like this at the SF2000 price point, which a bit more open firmware. They definitely should ditch the light pipes... that is just a waste of money on a low end device. And at worst an annoyance in the dark.

I actually thought this was a decent ARM handheld with a MediaTek chip and 6 or 8GB of RAM. Yeah, this is a mid handheld, I actually would buy a Switch Lite and mod it.

A mild nitpick I have with these wide screen low end handhelds, why don't they ever include a Bandai WonderSwan emulator? It was a 14:9 aspect ratio Game Boy Color competitor handheld that can be emulated on a potato. It would've been a neat addition to this handheld, something that could actually make use of the wide screen and not run like excrement, and would've cost them quite literally nothing extra to add. I like the looks, size, and the price of the E6. It arguably looks better than its muse. I love that it runs Android, most handhelds in this price range don't. What I don't like is that it's so locked down. I don't remember which reviewer was able to crack it, Taki maybe, but this handheld would make a lot more sense if I could throw some of Robert Broglia's emulators on it plus ePSXe. It could be a fun project.

That button layout will really hurt your thumbs. The reason the steam deck is comfortable is because the buttons to the sides of the sticks.

I do like the size of current Steam Deck. It would be good if Valve did design new Steam Deck, or Steam Deck Mini, or Steam Deck 2, with more than two FPGA. Hopefully the next Steam Deck would be more powerful, or as powerful as PlayStation 6 with Docking Station. This would be awesome. (Gamers and Game Developers Dream Machine)!!!

Are Retro handhelds worth it if there's a pc gaming handhelds with today's pc's powers like Asus Rog Ally, Lenovo Legion Go, OnexFly, AyaNeo Slide/Flip DS and Steam Deck Oled? But gotta say that E6 retro hand-held looks pretty good, I would love to buy it and play PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, Nintendo Gamecube and Wii games if it runs PCSX2, RPC3 and Dolphin emulators. 😊😮

Some of these new sub $50 retro handhelds are definitely worth buying even if you own a Steam Deck or ROG Ally. They offer great battery life, good performance on most retro systems, have decent screens, and actually pocketable.

It really depends on your use case. Obviously you can't just stick any of those in your pocket and head out the door, which is big for me for retro handhelds since i can't sit and play games at work with a handheld PC like I can with a much smaller handheld

I’ve seen multiple KZbinrs saying Gen 9 is a generation of nothing. That the PS5 and Xbox Series S/X have been mostly a disappointment at least regarding their library. I was looking through a greatest games list for a PS4, and honestly, I wasn’t wowed by it. Not sure I played many of them. I haven’t truly enjoyed a bigger Sony console since the PS2. What we’re seeing now in the gaming industry seeing is like what Hollywood is doing: sequels and remakes. If you think about it, a lot of our favorite franchises are essentially the same games with a fresh new coat on it. Newer games would have tweaked up gameplay and maybe improvements in presentation and story but they’re essentially the same games being regurgitated. Nintendo has been guilty of this for decades. Add the mobile factor. More and more gamers play games on their smartphone. They want the indie games because they’re cheap, and easy to pick up and play in short bursts. I got a Steam Deck about 5 days ago and sometimes I wonder if this will be my final dedicated gaming device? I’m extremely happy with it BUT I’m NOT sure I need better hardware moving forward. I own the PS4 and never really gamed on it. I used it mostly to watch movies and TV shows on an external hard drive and stream Netflix. Same with a PS3 I barely got in 2019. Only used it for Netflix. If I got a Switch 2, I expect it to be more of the same but with better graphics. Same with a Deck 2. And considering Gen 7-9 libraries really haven’t wowed me like Gen 4-6 did, I’m starting to question if I really need better hardware? At 43, I haven’t gamed much since Gen 6. I guess we all get old and we start growing out of things. I can go for years not playing a single video game and focus on something like movies, TV shows, and sports. I find all those cheap Chinese retro handhelds a waste of money considering we have more powerful Android smartphones that can play the same games, but I see their place and I do enjoy Russ of Retro Game Corps, ETA Prime, and Taki Udon talk about them. There is a convenience to them due to their size and no need to use a Bluetooth controller or Backbone. A Deck and Ally aren’t the most ideal size while taking a crap. PS4 was the last big home console I bought and I have no intention getting a PS5 even though I’m aware it’s backwards compatible to the PS4. I prefer all my gaming devices to be portable. I feel Steam Deck is as close to a portable Xbone/PS4 already. No intention getting a ROG Ally since I hate Asus and Windows. Asus and Lenovo won’t support their handhelds as long as Valve will. If Steam Deck is as close to a PS4 already and I usually rank my PS4 in my bottom 10 for my all-time favorite home consoles behind several Gen 3-6 consoles, then what’s the point getting a Deck 2 if it’s essentially a portable PS5 when the PS5 hasn’t exactly made things exciting in this generation next to the Xbox Series S/X? To rebuy games I don’t really care for? MGS5 on my PS4 bored me to tears. Then expect the endless sequels and remakes. What’s the point for a Switch 2 when it’s probably only on par to a base PS4 and current Deck? I’m not sure I’ll game much when I reach beyond my 50s. I don’t want to be like MetalJesusRocks. It just feels like Deck could be my final swan song for gaming hardware. But what a way to go! Can play nearly every generation before it. All my favorite home consoles and handhelds from the last 36 years. Gen 3-6 was my peak excitement for gaming and then I hated seeing all the first-person shooters that flooded the market by the 7th gen. And that Japanese developers’ influence started to wane. Then mobile took over during the 8th gen. While Gen 7 and 8 have much prettier graphics than Gen 5 and 6, it also brought me the least memorable experiences. We mostly play interactive movies by Gen 7-8. It really depends on a person’s age. But being a Xennial, I’m not sure I’ll ever enjoy gaming again like what I did in the 90s (Gen 4 and 5). Then that crazy jump from Gen 5 to 6 with the Dreamcast, PS2, Xbox, and GameCube all being bangers. I miss the days from the 90s when I would frequent arcades and go to the book store or supermarket to read video game magazines like EGM and Next Generation. I currently have 6 games on my 512 GB LCD Steam Deck not including the ROMs I will add to it. There’s a chance the highest it will get to is about 10-12 games. Games like Elden Ring and Starfield aren’t my thing. I didn’t even care for Breath of the Wild. I haven’t got a microSD card yet but there’s a chance I’ll only go for a 512. I don’t see a point getting 1 TB since I haven’t cared for gaming since college. I feel I have all my gaming needs covered with my Steam Deck, Galaxy Z Flip3, Switch Lite, and hacked Vita and PSP slims. I can see myself using the Steam Deck for as long as it still works. My final gaming device? Maybe, unless Switch 2 or if a new Sony handheld ever comes out and can play Final Fantasy VII Rebirth perfectly. My favorite game of all-time is the OG FF7. I kinda want to end my gaming experience with the FF7 remakes.
