Randy was/is a great singer and player. Tim is great bass player but I always thought his voice, for lead vocals anyway, was a bit wimpy. Regardless, he really was the only one who could replace Meisner and he did the job. It's great that makes the acknowledgement.

So happy Randy was there. I'll never forget when he shared his dinner and some of his Italian wine with me, and then we split the dessert. What a sweet and kind man. At first I addressed him as Mr. Meisner ( I was taught respect), and he gently patted my hand and said "Just call me Randy, dear." I think I blushed into the following week.

+SecretYoungLink007 I thought he just got tired of Glenn's shit and left. They had a big fight ONSTAGE before he left in '80 i believe. But even before then, when doing the Hotel California tour, Randy wasn't hitting the high notes on "Take it to the Limit"... Randy wanted someone else to do it or drop the song completely from the setlist. Glenn basically told him to stop being a pussy and to do it.

+Sitizen Kane The videoed disagreement is in the History of the Eagles in Part 2 . Oh Glenn was pissy during the concert, so was Randy and it got ugly. Randy walked out, went surfing they said lol....... oh the good days when people would just move on with no hard feelings. (they had eternal hard feelings) I am not a believer in saying good-bye, life never lets you know when you shall see someone again. Mentally, songs of the eagles will be a fabric in my life forever, wont ever wash out or fade. Just will continue to sound awesome! Glenn, take it easy

+barbee0715 This is how society should be. It's not about who gets the credit like society teaches, but, how many lives it enhances and how many more will be positively impacted in the future. We've lost way too much "community" over the last few decades and replaced it with "individuality" and self-righteousness. As McDonald's founder, Ray Kroc once stated, "NONE OF US IS AS GOOD AS ALL OF US"

+juandiamante46 I agree, he really showed class, dignity and respect. Schmitt is a great musician in his own right, but no one ever sang "Take It To The Limit" like Randy Meisner. The Eagles played this song in B back when RM sang lead. After he left they had to drop it two whole steps to the key of G (with Glenn Frey singing lead). Nobody could hit those high notes like Randy did. Frey didn't even try, even with the song dropped two keys. I kinda like Randy, can ya tell? Hotel California was their signature song, but I think Take It To The Limit was right behind that one in musical significance. Meisner has first writing credit on the song, he truly had a significant impact on what I consider to be the finest musical act of the 1970s.

@@scrimmy45 when you see the documentary, it gives you a good idea of the dynamic in that band. It was Glenn's band, that's obvious if you watch this, Henley is a big part of it and very instrumental, but Glenn is the CEO. He isn't easy to deal with but the others are supposed to accept it and a few of them have successfully remained eagles because they accept it. Joe accepted coming into the band that he was not going to be a frontman, prominent songwriter or lead singer and he was a humble man, he respected Don and Glenn as they were leaders of the band, and accepted that. Timothy felt like they saved his ass when they hired him to replace Randy, and felt like it would be audacious to question them. Felder had an agreement with them, he wanted them to uphold their end of the agreement like gentlemen.....THEY ARE NOT, and he found that out. Randy and Bernie are cooperating as they likely know that Felder and Joe had to advocate for them to be a part of this ceremony as D&G saw them as irrelevant as they had left the band during the mid 70s and had been adequately replaced. Bernie looks like he would love to expose Glenn as a piece of shit that he is but he's too much of a gentleman. He will never see him again and he is okay with that

So very modest of him in his minimal "thank you's" and so very kind of T.B.Schmit to acknowledge his influence in the trenches early in the bands career, hard for someone who's not an "alpha" male God.bless both of them. I was 19 years old in 1971 when I heard "Take It Easy" for the first time. I've been an Eagles fan ever since. Their songwriting, musical ability, and vocals are second to none. They are the greatest American band of all time in my opinion and second place is not even close. As for their individual failings, well, you can't have a group of musical geniuses without having some occasional head-butting. I, too, wish Felder was still with the band but life goes on. I'll still listen to them over and over and over, marveling at the pureness of all the songs I know so well.

I liked Glenn Frey in the Eagles and solo. Didn't know him of course but felt connected to him as the others. Just so sad that they had such animositys toward each other. There was a huge price to pay for all that fame and fortune. He was the focal point on all of that and it ended up eating him alive and he ended up dying. Such a sad ending. Maybe that song of theirs most of us our sad really does ring true. God bless them all and I hope he made peace with God. He had it all but I hope he didn't miss the greatest achievement; eternal life with the creator

If you're really being honest, you can count on one hand the number of bands from any era of music that never once recorded a bad song, and you know the words to all of their songs, no matter which decade it was recorded in. The Eagles are one of those very rare bands, and their music has more than stood the test of time!!

The Eagles are one of the best rock & roll band groups and country music as well. Although the band have been separated for fourteen years but able to reunite together prior to the late Glen Fry, one of the original members and founders. The band have won six Grammy awards , five No # 1 Singles, 17 ( Top) 40 Singles and 6 No # 1 Albums. I have been a loyal and dedicated fan since the original band was formed in 1971. During the opening of the ceremony for acceptance of being inducted into the Hall of Rock and Roll Fame, I have thought that Don Henley , one of the original members and founders was extremely humble with his acceptance speech. It is a boy's dream to become a successful songwriter and musician by just picking up a guitar and playing a set of drum but unforseen his future to be one of the most noticeable and sensational rock and country band ever performed on stage with so many hit singles and albums. Secondly, it was a nice introduction of Randy M by Tim Schmidt. It was a nice appearance of Vern to be acceptance of the award. It would have been nice to see Don Felder who happens to be an excellent guitar player and a creative writer. I have thought that the late Glen Fry was humble for the acceptance speech and the style of his speech was be thankful and grateful that we are the main reasons for their success in all of these past years.

I'd like to thank the Eagles band members for becoming such a great band called the Eagles and bringing us their fabulous songs over the years. And I'd like to thank the people who gave them such inspiration to write them. And thanks to the people who may have written some of these songs for them. And I'd like to thank myself & all the millions of fans like me, for loving such great songs, that made the Eagles what they are to us today.. But I'd like to say to case county music. Please stop giving me copyright issues for playing them on youtube. If we don't get to play them they will fade away. And if we can't play them, how can the Eagles know they are still loved so much by us all. Buying their albums doesn't always say their loved. Keep it real Eagles. You are still loved today.

Randy Meisner had been contemplating leaving the Eagles for years before he actually did it in 1978. Being in the band had cost him one marriage and was about to cost him another relationship. There was some tension when he left, but all was forgiven for this occasion. They would have invited him to be a part of the current History of the Eagles tour (as they did with Bernie Leadon) but, sadly, Randy's health would not permit it.

It is indeed nice that they all got together and treated each other respectfully for this occasion. I think I read in Felder's book that Henley would only play with Leadon and Meisner at the venue if their guitars were not plugged in. Regardless, it's too bad John Fogerty could not have done the same when CCR was inducted.

I worked for many years in Dallas with Dallas, Power, and light (T.U.Electric),,,and we would have to trim the tree's from the power lines to prevent outages and such (due to the great ice storm of 1981). Don Henley lives in Dallas, and when we had to remove some major overhang from his tree, he was a major prick. I love the Eagles. Always have, and always will, but he was a very difficult client to deal with. I lost a wee bit of respect when he pulled the, "Do you know who I am" card.

I mean, he's kind of known for being a tool, but that's not what I care about, it's his gift and his talent for music that's really all that matters. Also, if it was 1981, he was probably loaded out of his mind from drinking and drugs still, and considering the Eagles just broke up a year earlier probably didn't help.

There are people and things that are so timeless that you think that time has a different set of rules than those used on people like you and me. For me one of those things is a band called the Eagles and it's founding member, Glenn Frey. I remember seeing them for the first time in Kansas City as they were just beginning to get noticed. Believe it or not the Eagles were opening for Jethro Tull. We bought tix for the JT concert not knowing who the opening band was. When they opened their set w/ 'Take It Easy' I kind of forgot about the JT band and sat listening to harmonies, guitar parts, and lyrics that were as close to musical perfection as you could ask for. Here are a few of my favorite Glenn Frey penned songs below. He will be sorely missed by this world but enjoying his new life in another.

Lynn Turman If you knew your band as well as you think, you would see a lot of writing & co-writing credits that involve Leadon, Felder & Meisner. If you're a true Eagles fan, you would acknowldge that... BTW, Meisner had the best pipes in the band and there is no debating that.

Stephen Silva Uh...that's why I said "for the most part." I DO acknowledge the contribution of Meisner, Leadon, & Felder. All three were/are incredibly talented. And all three wrote/co-wrote some of the Eagles best songs. But their songwriting contribution only represents maybe 10-15% of the Eagles output respectively whereas Henley & Frey get songwriting credit on about 95% of all the songs. So its clear they were the two main forces when it came to writing all their wonderful songs. And as for Meisner being the best singer, I do debate it. Only because Don Henley is also in the band. Between the two of them, they're two of the greatest singers in rock history imo.

Felder said that Frey & Henley was making them miserable and so they signed away any "rights " to the Eagles franchise. Its a shame some people are such jerks.
