The EASIER way to remove rear brake discs from Fiat Abarth 500 (circa 2010)

Changing the rear disc brakes on my Fiat Abarth 500 and I’ve seen a few vids on KZbin and some posts on forums saying you have to remove the four bolts from the hub to get to the bolts on the calliper carrier to get the discs off. No need to do that! Just undo the bottom bolt on the carrier and hinge it back with a rubber hammer or something so as to not damage the carrier. There’s just enough room to get the disc out and out a new one in.
NOTE: If carrier bolt needs replacing, due to it being damaged, I believe you will need “fine pitch” (ie 1.25mm pitch) M10 20mm socket head cap screw bolts. Bright Zinc plated is ideal. 12.9 grade is more than good enough too. Torque to 60nm. You can buy the bolts from Westfield fasteners (In the UK that is). You’ll need a couple of “Form A” M10 washers to go with the bolt too. Ensure you use Locktight on the bolt too.

Lucky if you can get that bolt off with an Allen key at that angle. Mine were rusted and seized on. But good tip nevertheless 😅

Yep, I sprayed PlusGas dismantling lubricant on the bolt and left it 5 minutes and then the bolts loosened fine. PlusGas is amazing stuff.

Getting it off like this is fine but putting the new thicker one on doesn’t work so well

I got the new ones on fine. Needed a little persuasion of course, but went on.
