I've been looking what this plant exact name was, whenever i tried describing it to people in the hobby they would always say "it's Pennywort". I was suspecting it was probably some type of pennywort but the local species of pennywort here in the Philippines grows way too big for small tanks. Glad that i know what its called now. @AquaristForFun3 жыл бұрын
Gotu kola is versatile but personally I think Hydrocotyle tripartita is more versatile as it can be used as a carpet plant. Gotu kola, like other pennyworts has a tendency to grow vertically and attempt to reach the surface. Plus you can tie or glue H. Tripartita to hardscapes unlike gotu kola,

I like your fun, conversational video style! I once grew this plant in a guppy breeding tank along with guppy grass, and it had crazy growth. It was beautiful! Then I moved it to other tanks, and it withered and died. I've since bought it a few more times, but the same thing happened. I've just broken down and reset up two tanks and am trying it again, this time from an invitro cup and attached to hardscape instead of planting. I'm also moving it closer to the light. Wish me luck! Hello. Could you help me please? I have problems with my hydrocotyle growth. It has small leafs, they have bad form, it doesn’t grow. I have now no3 about 10mg/L, po4 about 0,3 mg/ L. I used tetra complete substrate and quarz sand. I think I have light good enough and co2 - non very strong as I have 300lt. aquarium. But I have co2. I use 50% of osmosis with 50% of normal water. I have ph about 7, kh about 6, gh about 7. When I tried to add po4 and micro - I had all types of algae’s. I can’t understand what needs have my hydrocotyle. The plant is feeling bad. Very bad.
@AquaristForFun3 жыл бұрын
I think you'll need a bit more nitrogen if leaves are growing smaller because as other plants grow so does their nutrient uptake. UNLESS the specific species you have is the Hydrocotyle Tripartita "MINI". This mini version grows only about half the size of normal tripartita leaves. Mini versions I think are originally from Australia and ADA sells those specific species. So just clarify with the seller what specific species they are selling
@ЮлияФролова-о5р3 жыл бұрын
I have both types of hydrocotyle, they both staying bad. This is my first aquarium. In the beginning I used Tetra plantamin fertiliser that contains iron and other micro elements. That caused growth of algae all types, also ciano batteries. About 4 months I tried to delete all these algae. I changed water every day 10% and added batteries for aquarium. Now water is clean, there are little of algae. But my plants are feeling bad. I can’t understand if the problem that this tetra complete substrate throws something in water, or if there is a lack of micro elements, or there are too much micro elements. I use sera tests, they don’t show me the iron. But I’m sure that when I used fertiliser there was lot of iron. I don’t know what to do 😭🤷😂

BUT if you simply want to see it grow then yes! I had the same exact specie inside an icebox with no light source or filtration and it lived for a month before I started to see some yellowing. I even threw a few trimmings into my houseplants' damp soil and it started to grow emersed on the houseplants pot.

I purchased H. tripartite two months ago. It did well at first, but then died back. It is starting to regrow, buy very slowly. I have it loosely on a manzanita branch, basically floating. Six hours of LED light a day and Seachem Flourish once a week. It started to grow green algae on it about a week ago. Any tips??
@AquaristForFun4 жыл бұрын
hmmm, where did you get your H. tripartita? you may have received a plant that was grown emersed or even partially emersed thats why they melted after adjusting to underwater growth....in terms of algae on your H tripartita, Ive rarely seen algae grow on it since its a very fast growing plant. since you mentioned that it was loosely attached to your wood, I'm guessing its proximity to the light is what's causing the algae problems. Once plants grow, their nutritional requirements increase as well. Sadly, Seachem Flourish only contains micros and very little Nitrogen and Phosphorus. Nitrogen and Phophorus is 2 of the 3 main elements for healthy plant growth including Potassium. What I can suggest is either get a much more comprehensive liquid fertilizer, propagate new stems of H tripartita on the lower portion of your aquarium just incase its closeness to the light is the problem...
@AquaristForFun4 жыл бұрын
I may have forgotten to mention it in this video, but if you are growing plants attached to a hardscape, it would be really helpful to provide the nutrition into the water column by using complete liquid fertilizers, this will supplement the nutrients they are supposed to get if planted on soil..
@kellyannkraynak98474 жыл бұрын
@@AquaristForFun Thank you! I purchase them at a local fish store. I know they were submersed in their tank floating and are tissue cultured.
