Great lesson. I’m a low HC player, and I had the chipping yips last summer. I discovered this little nugget on my own, and it got me back on track. The club path is everything, when it comes to crisp contact. I was subconsciously taking the club back too far inside, and it definitely moves your low point back too far. Great stuff, my friend. This will help a lot of players.

Great tips, Todd. Weight distribution is def something I need to work on. I found that if I look at a spot maybe a half-inch in FRONT of the ball, my swing bottoms out there, so I make contact with the ball first. I also found that if had not been rotating my hips towards the target - helped a lot, too.

Todd , I am a low handicap player and I play decently around the green.I totally agree with you about the weight distribution on chip shots but there is a caviat.At least on my case, if I put 60-70% of the weight on my leading foot and the whole my body hanging on the left then my swing becomes too steep and the leading edge penetrates too much into the ground.To avoid this I keep the weight on the left foot but the torso is absolutely centered.To better understand, a kind of reverse K. By doing so I shallow my swing. Stefano from Florence, Italy

@@TonyNeri-s3e great post here. You bring up a good point. If we get too far in front of the ball we can get too steep.

Great video. I tried yesterday. I ended up having a number of heavy chips (deeper divots). Looking at video, when taking the club back straight back and coming through, the shaft had a lot of lean. Any tips on preventing this and still keeping the straight back feel? Thanks for great content.

Thanks for the post. Sounds like you need to work on what we call the "release" pattern. We have a section in our book The Bad Lie on this. See here if interested www.badliegolfbook.com/

Hi Todd: VLS has been great for me, thanks! Do you recommend the same strong grip for short game that you promote for VLS full swing? I didn't see anything in the book about grip in the short game section.
@USGOLFTVshowАй бұрын
@@stevem7163 great question. We like a neutral grip for the short game. Early this spring we will be releasing our short game book.

It appears on your normal stance that you’re slightly open. I noticed your left foot was slightly behind the right foot using the alignment rod.

Why just a drill? If it works that well, start setting up to your chip shots with your foot back and toe down. Makes sense to me.
