While I do use this method my most common go to is the silver pencil! Very precise and removable if you go to far😊

I do the same, just like you said more precise and controlled and easy to remove if over done. In fact I just purchased AK weathering pencil set from Scale Hobbist. Can't wait to start using it on my F4U-1 a Tamiya kit I'm working on.

I like silver pencils as well. I find it easier and more precise than other methods.

Nice notes about the hairspary decanting! The one and only time I tried this was with a tank. I just legit sprayed the tank with hairspray and let dry, and then scraped off wiath a toothpick...

Looks good, Hank! I'm about to start on the old Hasegawa 1/32 Me-262 just to kind of break up the monotony! Thanks for the tips! 😀

Fabulous tutorial, Hank! Sorry if I missed it: do you put a clear coat over primer before your white aluminum coat? Just wondering how you keep chipping from going to far in terms of layers down to bare plastic! Thank you!

One additional step that you can do, depending on what aircraft is being done is a “primer” coat, such as zinc chromate above the metal layer. Looks really interesting when you have a spot of bare metal surrounded by primer, and also so chips of just primer.

Once again, again and again good video and paint job. I've never used hair spray, but I have read about on several other write ups for weathering. Perhaps it's time i give it a try.

Awesome tips and vid. Just one question though, what if your aircraft (or any model) is of a wooden construction?

Thank you for the video on this well-known technique. I appreciate you informing us of the need to let the hairspray dry and cure. Something most videos on hairspray chipping does not mention. However, I am wondering: Should the top layer of paint also dry and cure before using the water? Btw, I have no bad (but also not many) experiences with applying hair spray directly from the spray can - however, this may also come down to the specific hair spray product used.

Nice tutorial - definitely need to try this technique as my chipping technique results leave much to be desired. Question: who manufactures the aircraft jig that holds your models in these videos?

Tip #3 - chip the areas that were made of metal. I have seen too many La-5s or Yak's with metallic chips, as well as fabric covered ailerons or rubber de-icing boots on leading edges

Thanks for your awesome video! What do you with the areas that got wet but didn’t get paint chipped off? just leave it alone and let dry?

Thank you! And yes, exactly - once any excess water evaporates, you’ll be good to go!

Question You masked with tape. Im pretty sure that paint will come off with tape because of the hair spray.

Just a question, but say id like to apply an coat of the primer color used on the aircraft over the coat of metal and shipping and aswell the camo over there just for the sake of more realistic look? Would this require me to add on more than one coat of shipping? But would it also make my aircraft look more in touch whit how it would normally had looked like from the factory or the field where museum coat finish wasent a priority and ratter just getting it out. Also i did take a look at a bf109 and noticed that there was some few red spots on the either so weared out and battle hardened camouflage. Did the germans apply red to their aircrafts??? Thanks for your answer
