Some people are used to thinking that, it's up to the teacher or the school about their learning progress, because they are paying for that. I'd say it's not totally untrue, but, if you are not committed to do something, you can study in the best school or even abroad you will not reach your goal if you don't take the responsibility of your own learning.

My experience is if it's conversational English, you always have to adapt the way the people speak around you. For example, if I talk too formal and too polite around my colleagues, they feel I'm weird cos they all talk like bogans, use simple words, lots of slangs, idioms, even swear words because of their low education background, and the work involved are mainly physical work. When I go to church on Sundays, if I talk to the people the way I talk at work, they feel I'm like a bogan that they would keep a distance from me. So the point is if you want to feel fit into a particular group, you need to speak the way they speak so I have to switch from one way to another as I have 2 different groups to interact with, but sometimes I feel fake about myself and I just want to speak my own way, just want to be myself, but a bit hard when living in a world that you can't avoid interaction with people with different backgrounds.

Hi Adriana ! I’m a new subscriber I noted all the good tips you talked about and I totally agree with these advises. I’m getting used to your voice slowly but surely. I’m just wondering if you speak British or Australian English ? I’m more used to American English but I like to improve my listening comprehension with you. I’m able to understand 90% of what you say, the 10 % missing is most of the time a lack of focus or some noises around me at the same time. I’ll try to shadow you for 5 minutes today ;). Have a good one and keep it up I really appreciate what you’re doing for English learners all around the globe :). By the way keep the same pace you speak it forces me to listen to more carefully. You use a clear and simple vocabulary without too many phrasal verbs that helps a lot.
