Why not just make a rod pocket opening for the top? That way you can take it off and wash it.

The fabric will fall off the tension rod due to the bulk weight left hanging, also the slightest breeze would drown it , nice idea but needs more securing at the folds

I tried this. It looks like she fastened the sides of fabric to trim at each tension rod. When I did this, the fabric kept slipping back over the rods and wouldn't stay looped over. But it really looks like it's pinned with something at each fold to the window trim in the video. Waste of time unless you make adjustments to these instructions. I like to wash my window treatments occasionally. I ended up using a tension rod at top after sewing a pocket. I sewed rod pockets across in two different sections. Inserted wooden dowels a little longer than width. Glued tiny finials on end of each dowel. Put in 4 cup hooks on sides spaced equally apart into window trim. Then I folded up and hung dowels on the hooks. I was able to slip panels off easily to wash them and even iron them again. Much more durable and stays fastened into place on windows. I have 4 cats and they didn't tear them up this time. Wahoo!

I love the idea with the hooks, I will use your idea if I don't find magnets in my stash for the same purpose. Or maybe even if I do find some 🙂 my cats love to play with the cords of my other shades 😞

I am trying to imagine what you wrote. Are you saying that you put finails on the ends of the dowels, and then moved the dowels up onto cup hooks to hold the shades in place? What do the finials look like? Are the cup hooks visible on the frame of the window, when the shade is down?

This is a very clever way to easily add window shades. However, your windows need to be the kind that are recessed. The window shown looks like it has at least a 2inch side depth, my windows are not like that and I would have a difficult time getting the fabric behind the tension rods and still have enough space on each window to set the tension rod. Next house I get will have those nice recessed windows😊

I was soooo excited until I saw that it had to be screwed in. Sigh. My 100+ year old rental house has petrified wood for window frames and NO drill is getting through that wood without major damage (note: I said, rental house, meaning I rent it). Also, this wouldn't work for metal or vinyl windows. Anyway, back to square one.

Just use three tension rods instead of two. Make a rod pocket at the top for the third tension rod instead of doing the staple gun step. Perfectly removable for a rental.

Just buy a blind ffs or make one properly. You can’t wash the fabric as it’s stapled to a piece of wood. You can’t put the blind up or down. Just a tacky home hack that’s a waste of time and money.
