Great idea and I admire someone who orders buckets of sunflower seeds--my favorite!

Been doing this for years. Buckets are great for storing ext-cords. However, I don't drill any holes in a good bucket (never know when you'll need one). I just zip-tie the standing end (male) to the handle about 3 ft down. Then I start winding the cord in the bucket till i get to the running end (female). I also use buckets of all sizes for the various lengths of cords. Only problems I have with them is letting someone borrow it. They never understand how it works even after I explain it to them.

Great idea with the zip-tie, that would make things even easier! Thanks for watching!

Why not just use a cord reel? Is there some advantage to this method?

For me its about cost, portability and ease of use. Most of the cord reels I have used that are cheap are not really usable. The expensive ones work well, but for the cost of one, I can have many of the buckets and invest the money in some good high quality extension cords. There are some cord reels that you can attach to the wall but you can't move them to a job site. So at least for me, with money being tight (especially due to my tool buying addiction :) ), I have found that the bucket method is a cheap, reliable and portable way to do it. Thanks for watching!
