Great episode ECR! Love the Sonny Chiba movie commercials! As a kid of the 70's, there was always a debate with my friends about Chiba or Bruce Lee if it came to a fight. There was never a consensus between us as to a winner but I don't think Chiba gets the respect today as he did back then, probably because of Lee's mystic growing after his death. Great talent. I know he just died recently.

@@LeadPaint1 Brotha Greg 👊 100% agree - Chiba was the Rolling Stones to Lee being The Beatles - both great, but Chiba was definitely edgier 🤘 Appreciate you always stopping by amigo 🫡

Hello my good friend. Very cool commercials, especially that Batman car wax commercial, I think I saw that energized Spider-Man commercial. Very cool that they brought back, that Spider character from the Pulps, the cover & interior art is not bad, well the pre Robin Batman was like that, very dark didn't play around he carried a gun in the first few pre Robin books, he hung a villain from his batplane in the first few pre Robin issues. Bob Kane was known to steal ideas from other comics, so I wouldn't be surprised if he stole ideas from the Spider. The Shadow was one of the inspirations for Batman, it is believed that Kane stole a Shadow story & used it for the Detective Comics#27 story, because they say it is very similar to a Shadow story. It may not have a horror vibe, but like you said his parents were killed on Halloween, so it does have a Halloween origin. Yeah 96 tears great song, has to be on of the great organ pieces, I don't know much about this band but I am familiar with this song, makes me want to find other songs by them & listen to other organ pieces by this band member. Sorry for the very long comments.

@@michaeltaylor978 Brotha Michael 👊 Thank you for the additional information about Batman's connection to the Golden Age/Pulps. The more I learn, the more I realize how vital Pulp magazines were to the birth of the heroes we know and love today. The car wax commercial was the first time I saw it 😎 The electric organ is always cool - gets me groovin'. Thank you for watching Amigo - take care 🫡

Hey easy 👋🏼 thanks for the show! My favorite part was the paperback showcase… brother I don’t think there are a a data base for those artists If I ever find something reliable I will sure let you know . Check out the paperback book called Address Centauri.. it’s a 1950s sci fi paperback series that Wally Wood does the covers on very affordable as well 👊🏼… Mission of Gravity by Hal Clement with cover by Wally Wood is another one you would like brother… it has the Wally wood spacesuit gadgets on the cover…

@@jacobbornowsky4013 Thank you Jacob 👊 😎 I will definitely check out Address Centauri - Wally Wood is awesome! I'll keep looking for more info about the cover artists - or attempt to make my own 🤔 Talk to you later brotha - and thanks for the new leads 🫡

Wow I just saw a comic ad for that Energised Spider-Man I was thinking of making it into a video. I don't recall seeing western paperbacks before, you did Sci-fi last time if I recall. Sonny Chiba, the name sounds familiar but I don't recall ever seeing any of his films!! Cool tunes and ads again mate, glad you liked the song we played for you on the show. I never read The 'Nam I imagine it was grittier than the standard war book, being nearer in the history and a murkier outcome than the world wars.

@@thegreyman Oh Greyman, you would dig them Sonny Chiba movies - he is the bad boy Bruce Lee 😎 Start with The Street Fighter and you will be in your way. I always wanted that Spiderman toy - the comic ads made everything look awesome 😁 I remember buying The Nam' when it came out - I wanted to know more about the Vietnam War because my dad did not like to talk about it. Absolutely loved the song brotha - It's on heavy rotation down here in Sunny South Texas 😁

Great episode once again Easy! You always manage to find the most interesting selection of video tidbits for your show. * * * If I can add a few more infos about The Spider. The pulp character's name was a major inspiration for the creation of Marvel's Spider-Man (I think Stan Lee said it himself in one of his Fireside books or in an interview). The was a second The Spider mini-series done by Truman at Eclipse: it's called Reign of the Vampire King. Around 2011, Moonstone also did a series of one-shot comics about the pulp hero. And in 2012 Dynamite got seriously into The Spider with an ongoing series that lasted 18 issues plus an annual. Dynamite's series had a very good writer, David Liss, an award winning novelist who also writes a comic book project once in a while. Dynamite also featured the Spider in other pulp-related mini-series and crossovers. I am in the process of trying to assemble the Dynamite run right now (Mainly because of my admiration of Liss's writing) and managed to score about half the run thanks to Cheap Comic Collector's claim sales.

@@Rangersly Thank you a million times Ranger for th info - now I have a new mission 😊 The second issue has a great write-up about Stan's take on The Spider, but I want to learn what others had to say. I remember watching a video awhile back about how the Spidey costume got its design from a Halloween costume, and now that I've watched the Spider serial, I have more questions. Take care Amigo and again, thank you for guiding me on this comic journey 🫡

Marvel Legends have just released a Crystar action figure, I had to get hold of one as I don't have any of the original figures. We have our own character called The Spider as well, he wanted to become the king of crooks, the guy even brought a Scottish castle over to the states to be his base of operations, he did end up becoming more a hero than a villain though. The 'Nam is really good as well, it was a backup story in the Punisher Weekly mag we got over here for a while and yes I went to the newsagent every week to pick that up, I think I enjoyed The 'Nam just as much as The Punisher, it's no Cat Sh*t One though! 😄

@@tmpsfrommars Tempus !!! Did the Spider character you mention appear in the Silver Age Challengers of the Unknown? I remember reading something similar - just not sure 😅 The Crystal figure sounds cool. The Nam is great - I think the series has been a title that has steadily flies under the radar. Take care brotha - see you on your next visit to our little rock 🫡
@tmpsfrommars3 ай бұрын
@@easycomicreader I don't believe he did, he was mainly in UK comics. It's surprising about The 'Nam, I'm not sure what else Marvel was doing at the time that was non-superhero, so maybe it just didn't catch on because it didn't have superheroes in.
