FRame 5:49/20:11 I used the proportional editor to achieve the desired effect. Got problems using G + Z. The middle portion was only responding.

When using proportional editing the mouse wheel has to be rolled to make the target area bigger. Proportional editing is the one that looks like a target on the top row hope this helps. You Michael

Great tutorial! I do wonder what I am doing differently at 5:38, select, G and Z, only the center shape moves up and down, not the 5 legs. Any idea if I might have a setting wrong? Thanks!
@Blenderfanz2 жыл бұрын
It is only the center you want to move .Are you in edit mode press tab.Also on the top line there is point select line select and face select. Point is the dot line is a line and face is a filled in square I believe . If you're on face select it should only move individual faces. Have you accidentally hit the target icon on the top line. That is proportional editing and can move all areas.Either deselect that by clicking it or you can use your mouse wheel which will change the influence ring. Hope that helps Terry C at blender TC

@@Blenderfanz Thanks for the reply. Yes, the center shape moves, but nodes from the star's "legs" do not follow. It essentially looks like an extrusion of the shape in the center instead of the entire shape moving up or down. I can't thicken the entire object. I reviewed the settings you recommended (I am in edit mode, and tried different ways to make it work, such as trying to select the nodes instead of the shape, but no luck. Really strange... you make it look so easy ;) Thanks for your help and if anyone has experienced this and found a way out thank you for sharing.

@Ian I know its a pain but blender is some times just buggy start a fresh and see if it still happens. I think it probably will be fine regards Terry

fantastic tutorial thankyou! very well explained which is refreshing. If i wanted to make the bottom of this flat is there a simple way to do so? i'd like to make a blank for casting. thankyou
@Blenderfanz8 ай бұрын
Yes if you select the bottom faces/ geometry in edit mode the scale press S then z then press 0 key then hit return this should flatten every thing. Unwanted geometry can then be got rid of by merge by distance. Hope this helps

@Blenderfanz9 ай бұрын
May have duplicate verts . Select your star fish go into edit mode select all by pressing A select mesh dropdown menu select merge from the list then by distance this should get rid of duplicates.
@martignymuse78489 ай бұрын
@@Blenderfanz Thanks but I've started again now and watching your faces and mine at the same time now. At 6.55 you had 62 and me 102. I did what you suggested re merge and now have 62. No idea how I'm getting doubles, but I am a beginner at Blender ;)
