hi, I am using android version 13 (Samsung Galaxy S22 U and I cannot find "USB configuration". it all looks a bit different. I don't see "Developer Options" but I searched and got "Developer Settings". Any ideas? thanks

I have done all of this, and the default USB option is USB tethering. But everytime I connect my phone with a usb cable, my phone ask me what I want to do. Tho the only option I get is; No data, File transfer or photos. So I still need to go to the settings.. Does anybody have some ideas, I'm using a xiaomi 12 pro, with MIUI 14 (android 13)?🤞🏻 thanks in advance

For some reason on my Galaxy A50, if USB Tethering was enabled by default it doesn't provide an internet connection. If I go back to the USB menu and swap it to something else and then back to tethering it works. Is there a way to fix this?

Hello, i finally found out what was the issue, you have to ENABLE "USB debugging" for it to function. Hope it helps. @The Easy Way please ping the comment for help everyone who has new phones. I had this exact problem on my S23+.

Thanks a million. Default USB shouldn't be in developer options, ridiculous. I could've sworn it used to be in the normal options. I got my parents hooked up on Internet via phone for only $25 per a month with a $40 gli net router (speeds are only 30 - 50 Mbps, due to location). Needed this because they can't remember how to turn on USB tethering. Couldn't find a widget.

That's cute, but you didn't say what the minimum Android version is that this works for. Pretty sure it doesn't work on mine. Those extra options are never available. It's just "charge," "file transfer," or "photo transfer."

Oppo a52. Nope, tried it. when I plug it in Tethering turns on briefly, USB options window pops up, tethering disconnects immediately and returns to charge only. So I still have to go through settings to turn tethering back on. It appears to have a hidden piss-off the user mode. Does anyone know how to turn it off, I'm sick of twisting phones and throwing them at the wall. I'm looking for the software engineer who designed it, for educational purposes only. Having a phone you helped design shoved up your arse sideways can be very educational.

First condition for USB tethering is to use a charging AND DATA CABLE, as well, otherwise your Android won't activate the toggling button from your phone!

I did everything as described and selected file transfer (note 20 ultra) - files to my laptop (toshiba satelite windows 7) - still not working and under phone settings, enable usb tethering is still grayed out and i cannot turn it on - any ideas? (my older note phone works just fine)

For my Motorola, it shows it set to the USB tethering option, but I have to toggle it off, then back on, a message flashes saying "checking subscription". This is the behavior on my PC, in my vehicle, and using the USB port of my router. Once I toggle it, works great.

The "USB tethering" option isn't there when setting default USB configuration on Galaxy S10+. As far as I can tell, this model just doesn't allow it. Insanely annoying.

Dang this didn't work for my Samsung galaxy s10 FE. Its a bit different in the settings, nothing happens when I finally found build number and spammed it :'D Also i cannot get to the screen with all the option of what to do when USB is connected. Funny enough, I can get to that screen another way, by pressing the notification that comes when i do plug in the USB. From there i can select any of the option for USB connection that we see in your video, however it is only chosen for the current connection, not as a default for further connections, so when i unplug and plug in again, I have to do it again.

Try searching for developers options in search, click on it then find it by scrolling manually?

@@TheEasyWay Thanks! Its not this I found another solution, I had to go into "software information" under "about phone", before i could find build number. I further confused that because Im on another language, and I thought the "serial number" under "status information" was the build number. Big time thanks for the guide tho, it was really helpful and now i enjoy using my phone as a router even more :) Have a good day!
