America is not immune to dictators. It all depends on the political education of the population. Right now, a dictator appears to be a 40-60 split in this country. 60% are still firmly against a dictator, 40% probably don't understand what they are supporting. A piece of paper (the Constitution) is meaningless to a dictator as are the laws of the people.

a dictator is not possible as the power of this country is not centralized. How would a dictator get around the states rights issue's that is something the majority of people strongly believe in. Even if someone could convince the majority of people a dictator would be good you would still have large and powerful states that would not fall in line. That would lead to civil war and the person who starts that would not last very long in a position of power. There is no way a dictator could actually rise and have the power to actually be a dictator as congress, the people and the states would all have to align to make it happen. You seem to think our system is weak.

I really must point out that America - under FDR - utterly refused to join in WW2 despite many pleas from Churchill and others. Covid happened during his watch so he had everything to do with it on the way he handled the pandemic. He blew it. And it's what he plans on doing this term and what he did when he didn't want to turn power over during the last election. How he tried to keep top secret documents after being asked to return them over and over again. How he tried to get 11thousand votes out of thin air. Now he wants to play victim. Funny how he claims Biden is using the judicial system against him when he's the one who appointed some of these judges.

Of course not. And we have been discovering of late exactly how easy it is to slip into dictatorship. The very fact that there is no constitutional ban on organizations that would seek to overthrow democracy or on parties seeking to undermine or abolish the democratic principles we have established ensures that this can happen, theoretically. What is needed is immediate, thoughtful revisions to the Constitution, updated to plug the gaps that have been exposed in the last 10 years, in order to establish a militant democracy. Some examples of constitutional changes include: Article 46(4) of the Portuguese Constitution provides that “armed, as well as military, militarized, or paramilitary associations, and organizations that are racist or endorse fascist ideology, are not permitted”. The first paragraph of Section XII of the Transitional and Final Provisions of the Constitution of the Italian Republic provides that “it shall be forbidden to reorganize, under any form whatsoever, the dissolved Fascist party”. Article 21(2) of the Basic Law of the Federal Republic of Germany provides that “parties that, by reason of their aims or the behavior of their adherents, seek to undermine or abolish the free democratic basic order or to endanger the existence of the Federal Republic of Germany shall be unconstitutional”.

Britain is a parliamentary democracy with a ceremonial monarchy that does not interfere in politics. It scores a lot higher on the Democratic Index than the US which has fallen into the "flawed democracy" category.

Are we really contemplating rolling the dice on whether Trump will be able to accomplish becoming a dictator. Dictator and POTUS should never be acceptable in reference to any one individual. No dictator ever gives up power voluntarily. Stop electing incumbents and those who raise the most $ in running for office. If you are one of the 80% who don’t approve of Congress or the government in general, don’t vote for the incumbent. After a few election cycles they will get the message.

Trump should serve as a reminder that Bill Binney was right to raise alarm over expansion of the Surveillance State post-911, calling it a "Turnkey Totalitarian State". We need to dial back the Executive Branch and alphabet agencies. Congress needs a sweep to get back legislating and performing oversight ( not being the payback arm of the Executive Branch)

But here's the thing, Powerful groups, probably AIPAC, are absolutely spending big in races that have especially the More/Most - Progressives, because who they fear the worst, is the SQUAD! - Especially the longer bebe keeps committing GENOCIDE On Palestinians! The right of the Party has always disliked the SQUAD, but Aipac is now especially desperate to run them out. So people like Susheela Jayapal & Jamie McLeod-Skinner, who ran only PPL funded, small dollar, pretty clean - campaigns - never really stood a chance. Gawd forbid, PPL who refuse to be beholden to ANYONE other than their OWN Constituents, well, how dare they!! Character just doesn't seem to matter any more, its just a trough of BIG $$$ - who can smear your Opponent the 'best.' Oh but of course, maxine assured us that she was going to put her nose down & work to get rid of non-transparent superpac funding - AFTER she gets to DC! People don't even seem to get, that it was THE SQUAD, who pushed Biden the hardest, for so many of the Programs that were to be part of the BBB, remember that, the Build Back Better - Care Economy, that was supposed to be a more Women & Children & SENIOR - centered Companion piece, to Infra 1 (known more broadly as - the jobs for men - Bill)?
