You should also be testing your TDS before adding shrimp. MD knows his water and is fortunate enough to have tap water that neocaridina can survive in. Most of us aren't that fortunate and you'll need to use RO/DI or Mineral Water re-mineralized to the proper TDS and levels.
@toptechtips93342 жыл бұрын

Hello. I was wondering what the proper TDS/ levels should be for the neocaridina shrimp please?
@halfcaf11052 жыл бұрын
@@treasuringpricelesstime5962 I like to keep my planted shrimp tanks around 200 TDS. 180TDS is good for many plants to thrive and Neocardinia like 150TDS to 250 but I have seen breeders keep them even near 300. I shoot for around 200 and when it hits 220ish I like to do a slight water change. I don't try to be extremely accurate anymore. Get it close and don't worry about it. Shrimp are actually pretty hardy in a stable environment. They just don't like huge changes in short time.

I did something similar with an old 20 gallon fish tank I had. My mother had a pond that she kept larger fish in, but some smaller fish somehow turned up in the tank. She figures the eggs were on some of the water plants she added. Well she gave me about 15 little fish, some snails, and some water plants from her pond and I put the fish tank in the basement of all places. There is a small window near by so the tank would get a little sunlight but not much. The tank had no bubbler, no filter, no light... just a tank. Well we turned out not using the basement wreck room too often and the fish tank was forgotten about. After at least a year I noticed that while the plants had grown quite a bit they had not overwhelmed the tank and when I took a flashlight to look into it and found the water crystal clear and the fish and snails were thriving. The basement was cooler and we did keep a cover over it, so the evaporation was very little. We kept the tank going for about 3 years before we gave everything back to my mother when we moved to a new house. I never even added water and the levels only dropped about 2" the whole time. In the end she got back about 40 fish and way more snails, but she was setting up a second pond in her garden so she figured it would help establish an eco system in that pond.

I’m going to say this that was an amazing video. I’ve been thinking of doing my first tank and this really makes me want to take that jump. I personally grow other plants in water I was thinking of throwing a few in. To propagate without them rotting. I’ve seen others use some type of pump to keep the tank clean. I’ve been asking around, I just want to get a good start. You inspired me to try it. I’ll watch more of your videos to get all the tips to make mine.

Oh my, I’ve been trying to set up a natural looking, 60l biorb, with all the stuff that goes with it. That’s all in a box and I’m going to use the tank to try this! Thank you, it’s just what I wanted!

I guess one downside of using bagged aqua-soil is that we can end up damaging the roots when we try to pull out a plant to replant them? Or is this not an issue?

That’s my thought too.

I have a 72 gallon heavily planted low tech tank. I change about 3-5 gallons every 2 -3 weeks and honestly don't even need to that. (i just like to because its the only tank I have). There are hundreds of rams horn snails in the tank and their poop DOES WONDERS for the plants. I've had the tank for about 7 years but only introduced theses snails 6 months ago. I wish I would have done this earlier! They multiply like crazy but if you can get past the look of hundreds of snails in your tank, its completely worth it! Absolutely ZERO algae too! Thanks!

Looks brilliant mate! - I really need to try something like this myself. May need to visit the range soon 😃🍃

I've noticed that in a lot of your tanks you like sprinkling those small rocks around the scape. But i would imagine that gravel vaccing would ruin that look. Does this mean that you don't gravel vac? And how does that affect water parameters? Also, do you not check to see that there are no air pockets in the substrate when filling up the tank for the first time?

i dont gravel vac any of my tanks. in planted takes, i leave the mulm, detritus and uneaten food to "travel" down into the substrate and act as nutrients for the plants.

Hi I’ve been watching you vids for ages and love the channel! I recently got a 58 L tank, an upgrade from my 20L. The only thing is it’s tall and rectangular to fit in my house. There aren’t many tutorials on aquascaping this kinda tank so I was wondering if you could do a video about getting mad height in a tank. 😋

Love this! I have never done a bowl but have set up a few tanks. The last one was a 7.5 gal heavy planted dreamboat. I want to do a bowl but have a question about your lack of heaters. What temp is this water and what do fluctuations with the seasons do to your choices for shrimp and fish?

He probably heats his entire fish room. A lot of people do that if they are big aquarists and they keep fish in the specific room that is ideal to them.

Would this entire set up work for beta fish, the gravel along with the dirt and sand? Are there specific plants that are able to prevent algae buildup? Or will any living plant do?
@evamz95842 жыл бұрын
Yes I need to know! 🙏
@jamesthesock13492 жыл бұрын
Generally bettas need a much much larger tank than this and they’re pretty picky about their temperature since they’re tropical fish, so unless the room you have them in is pretty heated they’ll likely need a heater as well. They’ll need more maintenance, if you’ve got a large enough tank (like 20 gal-ish) that’s heated then it’s very much possible

Question... Elderly Stone... I've never used it. Does it provide any additional nutrients to the aquarium or purely decorative. It's really fascinating looking! We've done all saltwater tanks, so I'm trying to learn more about freshwater plants and animals.
