When it comes to tag team success in the world of sports entertainment, there isn't a more succesful tag team than The Dudley Boyz. With a total of 25 tag title reigns across multiple wrestling organizations, Bubba Ray Dudley and D-Von Dudley are in the history books as the most decorated tag team in professional wrestling. It all started for the Dudley Boys in ECW.
Buh Buh Ray Dudley was introduced to wrestling fans as one of the Dudley Brothers, a group of misfit siblings. Buh Buh Ray was pretty much a comedy act but when it was time to wrestle, like all of the Dudley Brothers, he was able to get the job done. D-Von dudley was brought in as another Dudley sibling but he wasn't about having fun and making people laugh, he wasn't very pleased about how his brothers were portraying goofballs on TV. Eventually, Buh Buh would turn heel and side with D-Von, creating the Dudley Boyz tag team that we all know today.
The Dudley Boyz were tremendously successful in ECW, becoming a cornerstone of the company's tag team division while having some of the most exciting matches in ECW. This mini documentary from Wrestling Bios takes a look at Bubba Dudley and D-Von Dudley in ECW. We look at:

The Dudley's rolled out at Heatwave 99' one of the best heel promos to this day!!! I was a teenager at the time and remember being at my buddies house for it. His dad had one of those black boxes that used to work for all the PPVs, so you could watch them for free 😆 When they jumped over those ropes to get right into that big guys face in the crowd, I thought for sure we were about to see a real brawl start up! Anyways, great video my dude! Enjoyed it much!

I was very fortunate to grow up in southern New Jersey, 20 minutes from the Philly bingo hall, with a cool dad that took me to nearly every ECW show from mid 1994 to the final arena show in December 2000. In a way, it ruined what every other promotion was doing for me, but seeing what's happening in companies like AEW today, nothing we see on Wednesdays right now would look the same without what started in that dirty, hot, grimy little bingo hall in Philly 20-25 years ago. ECW changed wrestling.

Jerry Lynn was soo underrated in wwe and was sent to Sunday night heat and fell off the card. Perry Saturn's character died when he got electrocuted and became a retard. Dean malenco fell off the card soon after. Sad times for those guys, they had soo much potential for cool storylines and fueds between wwe wcw and ecw guys that i could see a bunch from either joining up and making more fueds. But alas vince never wanted tag team stuff. Now we have guys who cant get put over and the fans today dont even know who the Dudley boyz are.

My favorite tag team ever and their time in ECW was the best. I got seriously depressed when I heard they were going to WWE. They had an awesome run there but I will always miss ECW Dudleys. No one could touch Bubba Ray on the mic. Their backstage promos were gold but the in ring promos are legendary.

I used to attend the ECW events at the ECW arena from 97-99 as a teenager and the Dudleys promos were the first I've ever experienced where they literally terrorized the crowd lmao. I specifically remember one show in 98 where Bubba actually slapped a guy in the front row and a mini fracas broke out that was quickly dealt with by security escorting the guy and another guy out. I never knew it would be a one of a kind experience until later on, sadly. Long live ECW.

While the Heatwave '99 promo is what people think of when it comes to the Dudleys getting the crowd angry, the event "It Ain't Seinfeld" is the one that sticks out in my mind (in terms of commercial ECW releases). The Dudleys always got the best reactions from the Elks Lodge crowd.

The Dudleys original final night in ECW (winning the tag titles and dropping them to Dreamer and Raven) had a nice emotional moment after the match. They got on the mic cutting a really good farewell promo to the crowd and the company, in the venue they got their most heat (the Elks Lodge in Queens). A really cool, that can be seen on the Dudley Boyz Pioneer DVD release and the WWE "Straight outta Dudleyvillle" release.

The ECW tag team division from Tazz/Sullivan, Public Enemy, Whipwreck/Cactus, through the Pitbulls, Gangstas, Eliminators, and finally the Dudleys was one of the best divisions ever, not just tag, but I would argue better than most heavyweight, X Division, etc. you can put up. By the time The Dudleys were champs, the Division had pretty much jumped the shark.
