I am now 54 years old. And I have been consciously listening to music since I was 10 years old. I developed my taste in music when I was about 14. Since then, I have loved pop music on the one hand and classical music on the other, especially baroque music. (Techno trance too, but that's another story...) When I heard ‘With Or Without You’ by U2 for the first time in 1987, it was an awakening experience for me: Edge's ‘Infinite Guitar’ in this song was a sound of angels from heaven for me. Since then, I think that ‘With Or Without You’ is the best pop song in music history. And if I were forced to take one song with me on the much-cited desert island, it would be ‘With Or Without You’. Thank you U2 for this brilliant song.

This is what makes Edge one of the greats. He doesn’t need to play long guitar solos to be noticed. He can take simple melodies and turn them into gold. He’s unselfish. He’s the perfect fit for u2.
@happypapi19032 жыл бұрын
On the production side, Eno and Lanois are a perfect fit too. Lanois is a quietly assertive person and this understated musical genius to the point where the things he comes up with seem instinctive. His whole approach to record production is the studio isn't just a bunch of gear in a room, its an instrument in and of itself.

He has done extremely technical and long solos in live concert shows. Zoo TV 1993 "Bullet the blue sky" solo is one of the examples. He chooses not to be like every other nobody guitarist because all of them damn sound the same. He has been ranked one of the greatest guitarist and won numerous awards because he can play like majority of the guitarists out there, but no one else can come up with the signature and unique sounds he comes up. He pioneered the looping that so many guitarists these days now cannot live without. He has always been clear he got bored with playing long drawn out solos that sound like every other guitarist early on in his career. He started to become an experimental guitarist and went the way of creating innovative ways to incorporate guitar into the landscape of the song and to better convey the emotions. He is not a guitarist for the sake of being guitarist. That is why all of the guitarists
