I wish all you young singers all the best fortune in this wonderful metier you have chosen !!!!!! Please be aware that there are many pitch problems throughout the different singers. I also agree that the Carmen is not a mezzo...but if you feel more comfortable as a mezzo...that's fine. Best of luck to all.

Thank you so much for posting this video. I feel a lot like the girl that the video focuses on. I hope to one day reach her level of vocality. I go to my first private lesson on Saturday (tomorrow). I'm so excited!

Priti Gandhi, you are a stunning Opera singer and your voice reminds me of Leontyne Price. It is nice to hear a voice that is not white in the Operatic repertoire, I am so happy you are there representing color women, bravo!

Most singers start in their late teens, though some have grown up with operatic/musician parents. Aslong as you're musical (pitch, awareness, taste, intelligence) and find a good bel canto/opera teacher you should be fine. Most people fail because they try to be things the are not. Lyrical singing dramatic, baritones singing tenor and so on. Best of luck! :)

Female Opera Singers aren't all sopranos! You're probably a mezzo but if not, then maybe you just haven't developed a good head voice yet. I thought I was a mezzo-soprano because my voice sounds deep but I realized after a year of classical training that my voice is actually a soprano. A good vocal coach will be able to work on the areas of your voice which need improvement and be able to identify what type of singer you are. I want to be an opera singer too so badly. :D good luck.

I enjoyed watching her journey! I hope she’s singing soprano rep now. She is defintely not a mezzo!

I saw her as madame butterfly at opera Columbus. So thankfully she has moved on to soprano

She changed from mezzo rep to soprano. She now works in administration for a few opera companies, including the Met as the associate director for the Laffont Competition.

You have to ask: How many people in the world can sing opera and even oratorio? The official answer of coarse is that only a few people in the world can sing. It is true that many are not able to play the instrument that they are born with for 1 reason or another, However, I believe that there are millions that with encouragement would make opera not so special' After all its not has hard as working in the brick yard or engineering or down the pit.

It's my secret dream to be an opera singer... I really want it more than anything in the world, but I really just think it's too late for me. From what I've read, serious opera vocal training never starts before age 20. I used to be very involved in chorus but I quit in freshman year, and I've never been in theatre. I'm a junior in high school (17 years old), is it just too late for me to really try? How would I go about trying to prepare myself for maybe going after this?
@andity15 жыл бұрын
I started when I was 22. It's never too late. Actually it's better later because your voice will be developed enough for serious training. Under 20years old singers usually learn the basics of the technique,and when their voices are ready to be classified the real training begin
@singnow8513 жыл бұрын
@midnightmarshmallow You're considered a baby in the industry! It's definitely not too late for you to start training, if that's what you really want. Some singers, for example, will complete a non-music degree in undergrad, and can still be admitted in a music conservatory for their masters. Find a good teacher (look for someone that can teach you breathing technique). You never know unless you try!
@kngiht8415 жыл бұрын
It has been 3 months, how has your training been going so far ? ;) All the good luck !

I agree with your last statement about encouragement. Not sure about a diet of oranges & apples especially if your a diabetic (only 2 per day unless you are on insulin). Alot of BS about diet I'm afraid! It of coarse might be hard with false teeth. Did'nt pavarotti have false teeth?

Boy, this documentary did NOT support its thesis: An opera singer is one of the most demanding occupations in performing arts. Yes, becoming an international star is quite rare and requires luck, as the documentary pointed out, but the everyday demands of a professional singer is nothing spectacular. At least not what was shown.

Everyone wants to become an opera singer?!? First become good, healthy, and smart singers first! I am listening to your TAMBER you sound more like a soprano to me instead of mezzo. Please be aware of your vibrato, it's a little pronounced instead of being the wave of sound.
