We’ve been wanting to tell the story of our short finned eels ever since a major pollution event hit Dandenong Creek.
This short film touches on their amazing lifecycle, what the eels meant to our indigenous nations, and how urbanisation is affecting them.

What a great short film... it put a shiver up my spine. We have to get renewed focus on these spaces, they can offer us so much.

This is a wonderful video. Great to learn about the sustainable fish traps in the past. I hope the bad pollution doesn't ever happen again.

This is so well done, thank you. I remember the awful pollution event and it's devastating to see the aftermath. Every creature is so important, and people need to realise the terrible impact they can make 'downstream' everywhere!

Freshwater bodies like the creek are home to thousands of species. The eel has been part of this habitat for thousands of years, and embedded in aboriginal culture. We should coexist with nature and protect biodiversity, as a key element to our own survival. Applause to those involved in the making of this video.

Great video - the health of our waterways is so important so support the life within them. The pollution events are disappointing and tragic for the eels and other fish in there. I wish these insecticides were not available. I love the graphics at the beginning, seeing all the eels in such clear water and the care shown by First Friends. I wonder where the best spot is along Dandenong Creek to see the eels.

Hey Mithrani, no, Dandenong Creek flows into the Patterson River, just North of Boggy Creek; Boggy Creek flows into Kananook Creek, then out into the Bay.

Certainly are :) We wouldn't know how many, but they have been seen in the creek in various locations over the past year, and in the tributaries too

First step don't place drains that feed into creeks and rivers...it's really that. Simple! No need to test the water for contamination as we all know it's contaminated regardless and the surviving species have to survive in it. There's a reason why it's banned to swim in it. Where ever you find humans in large populations you find waste. We really need to move back to a simpler way of life how our ancestors used to live.

Carpet cleaning companies regularly pull up on the side of the road and dump their soap water into the storm water drains I've called them in before on multiple occasions, the industry is rife with them dumping surfactants
