I've met several people who met the QM or were in service with the RF. Those who met the QM all said that she was a very nice woman and the servants loved her. She seems to have had great charm although she was tough as old boots. Apparently when at Balmoral she'd get herself down to the village, chat to people over the garden hedge and invite herself in for a cup of tea :)

@@Onbehaard it's a lot different now though - it's kind of more like a cross between pride and prejudice dancing and rugby. I haven't been able to go since covid but it's a LOT faster now - not sedate at all. Guys doing push ups in the middle of the circles and flinging you around. Don't need alcohol you get dizzy enough from being spun violently every 2 seconds, and if you come away with bruises you know it's been a good night.

Compared to other Royals, especially Brunei, HM Queen Elizabeth is the most humble Royal, if you look closer at her dress, even the dress that she wore when she was young, all of them are average common dress, some celebrities and CEO's or business person is even more lavish than her. And all of her castle is old medieval castle, and only being maintained to be taken care of, that's why people love her, despite every scandal and controversy brought up by her children and grandchildren, people still love her, even republican figure in every country where she's the head of states is so respecting her that they wanna turn republic once her reign is over (after she died, Long Live the Queen)
@Briael
@Briael 3 жыл бұрын
A lavish lifestyle? Living in old palaces and country estates that are cold, drafty, leaks with few moments of privacy from attendant staff and undertaking royal duties all the time, even when she is sad or unwell. Countless miles smiling and shaking the hands of strangers, being gawked at. I think too many people equate status with privilege. The Queen is a rare creature and we have been lucky to have her as our head of state for so many years.

@LION OF NORTH no I won't regret it. When you have a family that live in the height of luxury when there are homeless people on the streets many of them military veterans, it's disgraceful. Most members of the Royal Family don't give a damn about regular people so I certainly don't consider it an honour that the monarchy still exists. Once Queen dies retire them as they'll certainly have enough money to do so.

To see the Queen Mum dancing with her child the Queen and herGrandson the future King, was truly touching! Princess Anne is the most perceptive and aware member of the Royal Family... and exemplifies what being regal is!! I trust her judgment like I trust my own! She is rarely wrong instinctively I feel. But to see Prince Phillip in action gives me a new understanding to the complexity and grandeur that is truly his. What a very pillar of a man. My gosh the queen mother was a sprightly 90 year old. The queen seems more fragile around the same age now.

The queen had more to bear upon her shoulders. The added weight of the duty to her realm, and its members. If you had to carry what she must, you too would look more burdened than not.

@@trymenot81 I see the general point, Queen Elizabeth II. seems to be a little bit less jolly and naturally "outgoing" like her mother was at ... well, *90.* Maybe she has always been more of a shy person than her own mother (who could also "allow" herself a bit more as she was no regnant monarch at 90). But needless to say, Queen Elizabeth II. is in an incredible physical and mental state regarding that she has not actually had a day off (at leat not mentally, I would guess) since her 25th year of life, though I'm not sure Her Majesty the Queen Mother had much less to carry on her shoulder. She lived through two world wars (especially the second), helped to get a war-torn country back on its feet, tried to make her husband survive the (unexpected) burdens of kingship only to loose him way too early. With her existence as a wife (to a man who needed quite a lot of help) and her job as Queen fading away all at once, I think many partners would have followed within short time. But she not only outlived her husband for fifty years, she did so with no actual position and yet we remember her as the epitome of grace, kindness and endurance. I can only assume Queen Mom must have had sensational dignity and self- discipline. Her dancing joyfully at 90-something shows how much she expected of her own physical health and mindset. I got twenty year-old friends who moan about having to accept their first appartment in a (standard-sized) building without an elevator... 🤦🏻‍♀️ Anyhow, both women come from a strong line of great women and I have quite some respect looking at either one of them now!

I only have the faintest memories of the queen mum from when I was small (seen on the news, of course, never in person) so I was astonished not only that I instantly recognised her here, but of the great sense of fondness I felt for her, as though I were seeing footage of my own great grandmother lighthearted and dancing with a right good will. She was a remarkable woman, and a blessing to her country and community!

Awesome! The small nuances, sidelong glances, the unspoken communication just gives one such an awareness of these these great figures as human beings and not so muchdifferent in some ways from all of us. Very sweet seeing Her Majesty with Phillip now he's gone & so many other things about them all that has changed, divorces, deaths, things we would never have dreamed would happened in the history of the monarchy. Thanks for posting. Really quite lovely.

Seriously…what an amazing life our Queen has had. I was lucky enough to visit Balmoral and you are able to go inside the ballroom. It is absolutely stunning. Although the castle is obviously well maintained you get the impression Queen Victoria would find it no different if she were able to see it now. It was a real thrill to walk in the footsteps of royalty. Is well worth a visit!
