Lady of Scrolls

4 жыл бұрын

The Bretons are the human race who hail from High Rock. Despite being classified as human, they are descendents of Humans and Elves who intermingled in the province of High Rock in Tamriel's early documented history. Because of this, Bretons are quite attuned to magic, unlike most humans, but hold a resistance against it unlike most Elves. This video discusses the Bretons, their history, their cultures, their pantheon, and the region of High Rock as well.

Ulysses Actually not. Basic 25% magic resistance + Dragonskin that let‘s you allow absorb 50% magic from incoming spells. You could argue the special ability is pretty good but why should you absorb spells from only mages when you can calm or inflict fear with the Imperial and Nord ability at the same time. The ability gets valuable against dragons and other magic creatures. Or why being a „only a bit resistance to all“ when you can be 25% more resistant (50%) against a specific element like fire, which is used pretty often, when you are a Dunmer or Frost when you are a Nord. It’s in general only good against magic users and being a magic user yourself. When it comes to stats they are worse than Altmer regarding Magic and far more worse than any other race regarding combat abilities for example Redguards or Nords. There is no best race as a whole but best races in their respective categories for example Altmer are the best in Magic and so on.

Still hooked and now I'm playing ESO and read a lot of fantasy books (now I can see the amazing beauty of LOTR, catching everything up). I always founded the fantasy genre weird. "Let your fantasy go and play someone you always wanted to be." I always thought that you need to be high for that, ore not happy with this life (don't think that anymore tho). But I still make my character look like me (visuals and gamedesicions). So it's like you in the fantasy world. I always thought that I was the only one doing this.

I’m proud to say that the first race I ever picked in Skyrim was a Breton because having an active 25% magic resistance at all times is very appealing and being able to regenerate 50% magicka from spells which can be huge in certain situations. He ended up being a one-handed conjuror and is definitely one of my favorite characters I’ve ever created in any elders scrolls game. And yes I am a Breton fan.

I remember someone in the Bethesda forums back when Oblivion had come out hosting a tournament between a couple of forum members, pitting their PC Champions of Cyrodil against each other. A Breton daedra conjurer in heavy armor destroyed the competition lol the character I submitted was a Breton mage in archimage robes and the archmages staff who was also a conjurer. My PC fared pretty well sadly did not win because of the lack of armor.

@@magentamomo7150 French culture is Germanic. You might want to look it up the history of France. The very name of the country comes from the Franks, the Germanic tribe that became the prevalent force in France after the fall of the Roman empire, and the first royal dynasties of France. And they spoke a Franconian dialect similar to standard Dutch (both belonged to the Franconian family of Germanic languages). And ofc there were many other Germanic tribes that settled in Gaul after the Roman empire fell, and formed feudal kingdoms And naturally, France has a Celtic origin with the Gauls, the original culture of France before the Romans

I gotta say, Ireally enjoyed this video. I've been wanting to learn more about these breton lads since the release of the new Elder Scrolls Online trailer. I was like "Wait, are there bloody knights in Elder Scrolls? You know what, I already know whose video I'm gonna watch."

One thing I would like to see done to better distinguish them from imperials is to maybe make them more elf like in appearance? Like still obviously human but with some elven traits like pointed ears. They're my favorite race but I hear a lot of jokes that they mostly just come off as 'Imperials 0.2 version."

The imperial is a mash of many human race enslaved by the ayleids, bretons on the other hand, is mostly pure nede that mate with the altmer.

in ESO you can, in fact, elongate their ears and give them tips to show their elven ancestry

So basically, Bretons are 70% Man, 30% Mer, and High Rock is feudal Europe but with Magic? Badass.

Truth be told I think eastern Bretons are 90% Human 10% Mer and Western Bretons 60% Human and 40% Mer. That's my head canon. It really varies individual to individual. When I played Skyrim I created a Breton character recently. I decided his mother was Breton and his father was Nordic. Race is of the Mother in Elder Scrolls. But I decided to justify the Nordic name by giving him a Nordic father so he's more Human than even some eastern Bretons.

Just started a Skyrim playthrough as a Breton, it's one of the races I haven't played yet in any of the games. I'm picturing him coming from a House Harkonnen type noble family in Evermore.

Also if my prediction that the next elder scrolls is going to take place in more than one province (because look how big Starfield is also I’ve been saying it before Starfield because Todd has being saying it too since the release of Skyrim) i would love to experience High rock. The elder scrolls is anything but a traditional fantasy universe however high rock has that traditional fantasy culture and I’d love to see it through the elder scroll lense. Hopefully dragons are still alive too. Not that we can slay them and take their souls or anything, but I’d love to battle one as a Breton Knight lol hell just thinking about it makes me want to do my very first Breton playthrough in Skyrim. I have never played as Breton

You have without a doubt thee most BEAUTIFUL and GORGEOUS voice i have ever heard. My god, after only a few mins of this video, i simply fell in love with your voice. I could listen to you all day long. I am though annoyed at myself for not even seeing your channel before, i didn't even knew it existed. But now that i have subbed to your channel, i will watch more, as the ES along with D&D are my two favorite fantasy games to play. And the lore that surrounds these fantasy RPG's fascinate me to want to know more. Bretons have always been my favorite race in the ES. I have lost count on how many times i have played either male or female Breton in the ES 2 Daggerfall to Skyrim. I dunno why, i just can't enjoy any other. Although i have played other characters from Redguards once or twice, Imperial characters 3 times, Nords 2-3 times, Dark elves once, High elf once, Wood elf 5 times, But the races of Orcs, Argonian, or Khajiit never played. :)

I saw your Argonian video before finding this one. I have to say I love the lore of the Elder Scrolls series and my compliments to you for providing such depth to it. 😊 I do have one piece of criticism though, and that is you tend to overuse the word 'however', across both this video and the Argonian one i saw before. Your narration is excellent but I would suggest a bit more word variety for future projects. Other than that, I say keep it up!

The closest thing The Elder Scrolls have to Half-Elves. The Elder Scrolls were maybe based on a D&D homebrew campaign. EDIT: After checking my sources, I couldn't find any reliable information on the second statement, other then rumors. Djusted.

Honestly, learning about the lore of the series makes me wish it was more front and centre of the stories of the games. I suspect it’s because of the teams changing, but the lore is so strong and rich, where Skyrim and even Oblivion don’t go terribly deep into it. Imagine how incredible the stories could be if the lore of the races was at the front of everything, as opposed to their relatively more insular stories, like in Skyrim.

If ES6 isn't in High Rock, I'm gonna riot We've had our Norse inspired adventures in Skyrim, the Greco-Roman inspired Oblivion in Cyrodiil, let's have a classic high fantasy adventure in high Rock! Give us a settlement to build up as a base of operations, fortify it, go from Landed Knight to noble to petty king or queen of a small kingdom!
