I get the whole sentiment about simply wanting to forget about the pandemic and just wanting to put it in the past. But I will actually venture the claim that a sizable part of the reason the band blew up when it did (at least internationally) was because of the pandemic and everyone being stuck at home scouring YT for new and interesting experiences now that the "real world" was in a coma. Especially the high-energy, fun-loving, life-affirming, self-deprecating vibe that they project fell like rain on parched earth during those days. So for me, the band will indelibly be tied to those times - but as one of the rays of sunshine during an otherwise bleak period.

their live show definitely feels like a party. saw them at Download a couple of weeks ago and after they finished i started the walk over to see Slipknot and texted my sister and nieces a short video i took of EC. sister sends back “holy shit that looks like a great time” and my response was “ngl it was the best live show i’ve ever seen.” and i’ve seen hundreds of live performances across all genres ranging from neil diamond to george strait to nsync to korn.

@@Isdezenaambezet that was the same choice i made and i’m not mad about it lol. the closest shows to me on their north american tour have been sold out for a while now, so i knew it would be my only chance to see them for the near future. in addition to getting a spot about 5 people from the front, i caught almost the full set from Set it Off. i hadn’t even heard of them before DL so finding a new band i like was a nice bonus.

I prevail let's go! I was front row at the EC set at pinkpop festival (in the Netherlands) last weekend and these guys brought the energy man. I also watched I prevail on the screens outside the tent because the tent was absolutely PACKED but the energy was felt even from that distance. Let's go metal bands on pop festivals! Kevin said during the pinkpop set that it felt weird for them to play after Ellie Goulding (and he was right it was a big difference music-wise), but the whole crowd absolutely loved it. There were non-stop moshpits and circle pits (again, on a POP festival) and there were even small wall of deaths!

to be fair, there are a LOT of castles/mansions/fortresses in germany (some websites say there are around 25,000), it's quite common to see one while traveling through the country. Not every building is still in use or sometimes there are just some walls left or some kind of building. Some people are still living in castles, rent them for venues or like this for a shooting, or brands who wants a photo shooting in a medieval setting. There is a whole wedding season as well. That's why Nico seemed kind of "unimpressed" of being in a castle.

Damn, these debates about genres and definitions are killing me. They've been going on forever and I understand it when you're young and music is a part of your identity. I've gone through that myself. But when I see grown ups, mature people (and it's not against Nik or Nico, I know they are not on this band wagon) trying so hard to define what they hear, it kills me. Why the hell do you care how it's called or where does it fit? Is it good? Like it. Not good? Don't listen to it. It's that simple, really.

If there would not be a German ESC committee... That's the bad about Germany. The decision makers don't understand music, but send one after another to the ESC to get the last position in the ranking and they do wonder about it. Probably it's also about the people, because the quality of the German music is mainly not at an international level. I'm sure that Electric Callboy would have a made a big difference.

Nico really doesn't get why We Got The Moves blew up like that? Well, it didn't at first, it did after the live shows started and the crowd realised "we love breakdowns! Wait, in this song we ARE the breakdown!!!". The song perfectly builds up to this huge döp moment, and it's basically a huge adrenaline rush when you anticipate this moment and then everyone at the same time just release all that built up energy. So that started to happen, and once everyone experienced it live or saw it on YT and such, they wanted that AGAIN. It's basically chasing a high. Wouldn't work tho if the rest of the song wasn't great. Love the chorus, love the slow buildup of the verses, and love the head bopping they do. That being said, Hypa Hypa to me on stream is still the better song (which actually doesn't work _that_ well live imo).

Eurovision used to be good when countries actually voted for the best song. I think some time in the 90's, countries voted for their neighbouring country even if the song was shit. We (Ireland) won it the most times with Sweden joint top with 7 wins. One year we sent a puppet (Dustin the Turkey) to represent us knowing that we wouldn't win because we couldn't afford to host it again (the winner hosts the next one)

ah, the thing with esc is that there are so many outside influences the poeple voting taking into account. Like germany is not the most favourite country in terms of history and politics and that has, sadly, a huge impact on the voting.
