The Aquarium is a large part of why Monterey is probably my favorite haunt in all of California from a Sac local's pov. Shame the cost of living there is enormous because the entire coastline and foliage is gorgeous.

Thank you for showing how elephant fish are cared for every day. It is a beautiful fish that I can watch all day long when I visit the aquarium. I also like how the aquarium use the bias free language and follow academic format. I appreciate the aquarium's conservation efforts!

So you're the person cleaning the tank during the Live streams! It's so nice to see that the animals are being taken care of, weirdly enough the whale tank and the jellyfish are my favorite live streams to have on while I'm reading at home.

Important question: Are the whale bones real or fake? If they are real where did the aquarium obtain them? If the bones are artificial what material were they caste from? Finally to finish my questions I aspire to know if the elephant fish require a different water pressure in captivity and if so how is that maintained?

How do you care for animals that have adapted to live at much greater water pressure than you can achieve at an aquarium? They're designed for a depth that as far as I know, can't be replicated. Does that cause problems?
@MontereyBayAquarium
@MontereyBayAquarium 2 ай бұрын
Great question! The animals we have on exhibit can thrive under the pressure of both the deep sea and at sea level. Most deep sea animals lack a gas bladder and are largely made of water. Unlike gas, water is neither compressible or expandible. Because of this, we’ve found that changes in water pressure haven’t been an issue for the species we display, as crustaceans, jellies, and fish without swim bladders can thrive at surface-level pressure. The Aquarium made the decision to focus on replicating the other deep-sea conditions - light, temperature, oxygen level, and pH - rather than pressure.
@gheefreak
@gheefreak 2 ай бұрын
@@MontereyBayAquarium huh. That makes a lot of sense. Depth really shouldn't matter to jellies. Thanks for your answer!
