Yo, please don't worry about the "equal playthroughs with every Pokemon" stuff. Please just don't skip meals, sleep or time with your wife. It doesn't help anyone if you get sick or get burnout.

Scott, Your well being and time with your family are always more important than some person that’s butthurt on the internet. I think anyone that’s worth listening to sees the amount of effort and care you put into these videos. You’re a person with a life and not a content making machine. You could do a 100 hundred runs with each Pokemon and I am confident that someone would find something to complain about. Please don’t take those negative comments to heart.

Don't let the vocal minority get you down with how you're doing these playthroughs! What you're doing is amazing. And as others have said make sure you're finding a healthy work-life balance! As for you asking for feedback about glitches and rules, I think the dig/paralysis glitch is like the badge boost glitch. It can happen even when you don't want it to, are you supposed to reset if it accidentally triggers? That seems a bit much. I say keep it.

@facoulac I think sceptile should have been a dragon grass type Stab dragon would have helped it vs Steven My prediction is BLAZIKEN is the winner 2 reasons one blaziken is the only one who has access to setup 2. Swampert REALLY struggles vs water and ice n grass 3. Swampert has terrible speed meaning it will move second wasting time
@evawhite1144
@evawhite1144 5 сағат бұрын
Good to see Swampert finally got the redemption it so direly needed, getting itself the second best time in the tierlist overall! I knew my boy had it in it to get one of the best times. What's surprised me the most was how close Blaziken's and Swampert's times were, despite the fact that Blaziken got an excellent set-up move in bulk up while Swampert got none. Like, let's be objective here and admit the only reason Blaziken got to be a little over a minute? Faster than Swampert was solely because of bulk up. Set up moves are excellent in solo runs, so we already expect pokemon that get them to put on an excellent performance and outperform the others who don't get these same set up moves by a wide margin. Today, the margin between Blaziken and Swampert was so negligible, it just goes to show how excellent Swampert is at running these games despite not having a stat boosting move to help it. We all know if all 3 of them got access to bulk up, two things would've happened: 1- Sceptile would've gotten a far better finish time, and 2- Swampert would've completely crushed Blaziken. And these are the facts. Pd: just as a comparison, to explain what this race felt like: it's like Blaziken was riding a motorbike, giving it a clear advantage (bulk up), while Swampert was just riding on a normal bike, and yet it still managed to finish at almost the same time as Blaziken! Whereas, poor Sceptile was forced to compete with the other two on foot. That's what this felt like.

I love Sceptile but man, picking that thing in a causal playthough is a mistake. (Same with picking Charmander in RBY both of them have to wait way to long to get access to decent same type attack moves)
@evawhite1144
@evawhite1144 4 сағат бұрын
@bettyunicorn6132 I know, right. It would've been so much better if it got bulk up. Which, now that I think bout it, might not be very useful for Sceptile because it's a special attacker, so it wouldn't benefit much from bulk up, even if it got access to it. It also makes no sense for it to learn calm mind, a move that's very tied to psychic types. Poor Sceptile was at a disadvantage from the beginning.

About the Abra problem: I think you should either not allow the use of it at all or force it to be used in every run. The time you want to measure is the finishing time of the respective pokemon and only that pokemon. Catching and using an Abra is an inconsistency which blurrs the results. My personal opinion is that you shouldn't use Abra at all. Oh and thanks for the great videos and the rapid fire this december

For Abra in Emerald, I think the best approach would be to not catch it, since there's no guarantee or fixed location to get Abra, unlike Gen 2. That said, since you have done a few playthroughs with Abra on critters that needed to grind, the best rule might be to stick to what you've already been doing; catch it if you see it.

I really love your videos! When mentioning the paralysis invincibility glitch I think the reason why people might dislike it is because they believe that it falls under your rule of "major glitches". I know you have since changed it to no glitches outside of battle in generation 1, however I think that many people think that being able to attack without any retaliation is too much of a glitch. That being said fantastic videos!

Keeping the Abra encounter natural feels balanced, the pokemon most likely to get an Abra are the ones that need training and the time shaved by having an Abra seems like a fair way to compensate this time loss.

They did the Sceptile line so wrong. It was the first time that as a child I picked the grass starter and the moveset made it fall apart, especially as a Grovyle in the early to late 20s where I would beat the midgame with Pelipper, Aron/Lairon, Numel/Camerupt and gave Grovyle a exp share and used it again only when it was a Sceptile. It's a really, really bad moveset. It's dead weight from the third to sixth gym. It cant do anything to Magneton, Flannery, doesn't have the damage output for Norman and cant do anything against Winona. Aron/Lairon made especially the 3rd and 5th gym a breeze. It falls only apart against Winona's Altaria with Earthquake and needs some assistance from Pelipper in the 4th but you can't get wrong with a gen 3 Aron

The order the AI sends their pokemon in after a KO, if they don't have any more super effective moves, depends on the last move their fainted pokemon used. They basically roll that move with all their party pokemon to see who would do the most damage if they used that move against you.

I think actually Leaf Blade would do less damage with Sceptile in Gen IV. Sure it's base 90 power, but it's also a physical move in Gen IV, so I think the lower special attack stat might cancel out the extra base power Edit: After doing a damage calculation against Arceus (because its defensive stats are the same, with base 120 in both) with both Pokemon at level 100, it looks like it does very similar damage either way. Leaf Blade as a base 70 power special move does 67-81 damage, whereas Leaf Blade as a base 90 power physical move does 73-87. So it looks like the increase in base power for Leaf Blade was necessary in order to counter out Sceptile's drop in damage with the move due to the physical/special split. Either way, the move is not significantly better on Sceptile in Gen IV than in Gen III

1:02:30 the algorithm by which the AI choses which pokemon to send in next is quite strange but completely predictable and you can should be able to use this to your advantage. I might actually be a little bit off but it's something like this: Step 1. It checks whether any of its pokemon has a super effective move. If no, go to step 2. If one pokemon exists, send it out. If more than one pokemon exists, go to step 1a) a) for all pokemon that have a super effective, compare the type of the AI pokemon to the player pokemon. If either is a single typed pokemon, consider its secondary type equal to its primary type. Multiply the type effective of the player pokemon types against the AI pokemon types. The pokemon with the highest type effectiveness is sent out. Note: this means that the pokemon with the WORST defensive match up gets sent out first, but only in the case where both have a super effective move. b) in case of equal score from step 1a, send out in party order. Step 2. If no pokemon has a super effective move, check whether any pokemon in AI party has a move of the same type as the pokemon that just fainted. If no, go to step 3. If yes, use logic from step 1a and 1b. Step 3. Send out next pokemon in party order. In the case at 1:02:30, Step 2 triggered Metagross to come out as it has Meteor Mash and the last pokemon that fainted was a Skarmory. No pokemon had a super effective move, so the "Skarmory's STAB-move" rule caused Metagross to come out next. If Aggron would have had Iron Tail, that would have come out next.

Gen 3 ai chooses mons like this: 1. Which mon has the strongest super-effective move? 2. Who is the weakest pokemon with super-effective move against the pokemon they are facing? 3. Abra adds a ridiculous advantage to runs speeding up time at Dewford island, trips to centers and back tracking. Either every run gets one or none get it in my opinion. Otherwise the data is inconsistent. Just a thought if catching the abra is the problem give the move to whispmer that way every mon gets it for a playthrough.

I think there are 3 options: 1. All runs get one 2. No runs get one 3. Only runs that have signficant wild-grinding prior to Roxanne get one The 3rd option seems fair because some mons, for example Ninjask, realistically spend 30+ minutes running around battling Pokemon. In that case, it seems arbitrarily unfair to prevent Ninjask from getting the Abra. But a Pokemon that does no wild-mon training prior to Roxanne would have to get extremely lucky to find and catch an Abra.

Since not every Pokemon is forced to train before Roxanne but every Pokemon IS forced to go through Granite Cave, could you just stop using Repels in Granite Cave and hope for Abra there? I know it might inflate every Pokemon's time just a bit with running from encounters, but it could be a way to make Abra encounter luck more fair across runs. I’m going to say again, you should really code your overlay to celebrate when you’re in Torrent/Blaze/Overgrow range. Particle effects, adjusted power on the move tiles, whatever. Gamefreak has done an absolutely abysmal job letting us know when it’s working, but you don’t have to suffer for that. I understand coding isn’t free, but this would be good for, eventually, up to like 100 different Pokémon. At least 30 even just in Emerald, if you include the bugs with Swarm.

Peck? the most likely options for Ghosts are available AFTER her (HiddenPower is Veilstone, and ShadowClaw SHE gives you) Guess setup is likely an option given that Monferno was Level28 (when Blaziken learns BulkUp) in the original run, but suspect you're probably going to be skipping trainers and be less than that

You show confusion at how the switch AI works at 1:01:36 so I figure I should explain it. As you said, it first runs a check across all Pokémon to determine if any of them have super effective damage. If none of them do, then it tries to check for a Pokémon with STAB moves that are neutral against your Pokémon, which makes sense. The problem is that it calculates this for the Pokémon that just fainted, not the one that's gonna be sent out. So for this example, Claydol gets sent out because it has a rock move, which would be a stab move neutral against Sceptile if it was used by Armaldo. Then, Metagross gets sent out because it has Psychic, which would be a stab move neutral against Sceptile if used by Claydol. Then in a later attempt, Skarmory faints and he sents out Metagross as his third Pokémon because it sees that Meteor Mash is a stab move that would be neutral against Sceptile. This probably isn't too useful to know for solo runs, but it's cool knowledge to have.

Sceptile can't one-shot a water type 20 levels lower than itself with a critical hit on a stab leaf blade. The developers really didn't like that mon... 😢

I accidentally ended up (essentially) doing a Blaziken solo run my first time playing Ruby. There are a LOT of Pokemon weak to fighting in this game.

Sceptile is a Pokemon consistently done wrong by Game Freak and I hate that because it used to be one of my favorites. The fact that it's one of the best fully evolved Grass starters and it's still bad in its home game is infuriating, and it's down to a small set of questionable choices. One thing Game Freak should just never do is give a Pokemon significantly better Special Attack than Attack and then make its moveset mostly physical. Even to this day Sceptile doesn't have much coverage! ALSO LEAF BLADE IS PHYSICAL NOW. which makes sense, but its signature move works off its lower attacking stat now. not that it's Sceptile's signature anymore because Leaf Blade got handed out all over the place to physical attackers who make better use of it. it's kind of insulting to Sceptile that it got buffed in power. Sceptile's ORAS level up set makes me want to send sternly worded emails to Game Freak. Three special moves, Absorb, Mega Drain, Leaf Storm. all Grass, none particularly good. Everything else is physical. its special coverage overall is Focus Blast and Hidden Power. one bit of good news is it gets early access to Swords Dance in ORAS. so it has that going for it to compensate. I GUESS. any sane person would agree Sceptile should be a physical attacker or its whole moveset should be reworked. Swampert should be the mixed attacker, and Blaziken doesn't need its high Special Attack for much at all when it should never be running a special set.

On 38:36 you mention how you don't need to set up Substitute because you're a special attacker, but setting up would still be faster because you wouldn't get all the messages from Intimidate

Gen one backport of blaziken would be very interesting to see given how poor fire and fighting types are in gen one. I wonder if swords dance can carry it

Who complains about the number of runs? Anyone who says they're a fan of this channel should know that you are a numbers guy. They should know that you love having enough data to make a fair and objective opinion on what your take is on a given Pokemon 🤨 how in the good, sweet hell can you do that without multiple runs to gather the data you NEED to make a fair opinion? 🤔 people are just stupid 😒
