Not defending this movie in any way; we all knew how much of a frankenstien of recycled tropes it is...BUT, I dunno, from the animation that was shown off here, it looks energy-filled. I mean, the colors look way too bright and obnoxious, but if we could just get a good movie with the same kind of CG animation flow and energy(with duller colors. better character design, etc.).

I actually don't like the animation at all. It's too polished and bright and... I dunno, _calculated_? If that makes sense? It looks like it was made by a bunch of animator-robots who studied every 3D animated kids movie and formulated algorithms designed to create a movie as aesthetically appealing and unoffensive as possible. It's like the animated equivalent of stuffing your face with raw marshmallows for 90 minutes straight.

I feel that honesty all the hate people were throwing at it was giving the film to much credit. It seems to be a type of bad that isn't even remarkably bad, let alone worth internet wide attention. Other awful movies can be recommended for a watch ether because they're hilariously bad or can serve as a sort of educational piece on how not to make a film. With this movie though there just isn't any substance, there's nothing there worth remembering, learning from, or even getting angry about.

Actually, the hate against both examples makes sense when you consider the real reason for the backlash - the premise. A good premise can have bad execution, but a bad premise even when executed right will at best be so bad it's good. So when it comes to making stuff like an emoji movie or "Pedophilia the Anime", onlookers are mad not so much from the actual quality but because so much effort is being placed into something that simply can't work.

Rachael Twilight I get that, but what I'm trying to say is I think people have kinda overhyped it in reverse if that makes any sense. Yes, the premise is dumb and the execution is super poor, but not in a note worthy way, it's just bland and is an obvious case of a corruption trying to capitalize off a "hip" trend that honestly isn't that relevant anymore. Problem is you know tons of people are going to see it ironically or for the memes, providing the film with profit, only to be disappointed and bored out of their minds.

I kind of want to tack on a little extra thing to your Wreck-It Ralph comparison: With Wreck-It Ralph, Ralph was ALSO wanting to break out of being the bad guy cause he was feeling unappreciated in his own game: Felix was a nice enough guy to him, cause Felix was pretty much unable to NOT be a nice guy, but the nicelanders didn't like him or really care about him. After he comes to accept being a badguy, and after their near-apocalypse without him, the nicelanders start appreciating him more: so even though he's back in his original role, he's happier IN said role. With the Emoji Movie (haven't seen it but I've seen clips of the resolution by people more tolerant then me) Gene essentually can't do his job in the first place, and the whole "multiple emotion" thing... well, doesn't that KIND of put the OTHER emojis out of a job if Gene can both do it all AND do something unique? Also the "Pulling the plug"/"format the phone" thing is different kinds of apocolypse: with WIR, pulling the plug was essentually meaning the game cabinet was going to be carted off never to be used again. With the emoji movie, it's just resetting the phone back to factory standards- so kind of like time travel? On a personal nitpick note: the kid basically unplugs his phone from the formatting computer when its 99.9% complete... and somehow that makes it get ALL that deleted data back? sorry, that doesn't work that way...

You're the first reviewer I've seen who went into the actual reasons why the movie is bad rather than outright hating it just because it's the Emoji Movie. The premise is the worst thing ever but I felt like you gave it a fair chance unlike most of the KZbin community despite the negative hype. I think the main reason why this movie passed so many people off is because it had so much potential. ...... Yeah I know it sounds cracked, but hear me out. I've watched at least 3 reviews of the Emoji Movie (this one included), where a better premise is introduced. Wheter it was Emojis in a kid's phone trying to connect with them or a servant going to fetch the prettiest girl in the kingdom for the queen, they all did something new and interesting with the "world inside your phone" concept. All of which I would've loved to see in this movie (especially that second premise, cuz I'm a bisexual dork who loves fantasy adventure stories), but instead it just did the bare minimum of a family film made as a side hustle for stuff like "Into the Spiderverse" or "Mitchell's vs the Machines". Call me crazy, but I think I actually want a remake of "The Emoji Movie". How about you?

Or! We could watch, "Help! I'm a Fish!" An old hand drawn animated movie about these kids who get turned into a fish by a wacky scientist trying to prepare for the flooded, global warming apocalypse and during their quest to retain their humanity an evil fish gets ahold of the antidote and quickly turns the ocean into a kingdom where he has absolute control of the intelligence distribution. It's really dumb, but at least it HAS a plot.
