Every movie nowadays tells you that you need to “be yourself”, which quite frankly seems to be a mandatory human quality. I mean, of course you need to be yourself, that is like saying you need to consume nutrients in order to substance your body. It is pointing out the obvious. Of course, in a less literal sense it could be alerting more ashamed people to have acceptance of themselves, which is entirely fine. However, this theme seems to either almost always presented as in your face, or convoluted throughout the plot. It is only touched upon using the very lowest hanging fruit of its properties, rather than the deep philosophical understandings and complexities of accepting one’s self. This eventually creates a rather non-cohesive or meaning message. Instead creating copypasta bloated tumors of a general theme in order to grab a quick buck. Mainly a mess used by the company Sony. Which is why we have this film.

When I was in elementary school, we had an activity that was about writing by using cutout letters from newspapers and magazines, kind of like a ransom note. On the next class, we did an activity from our text book that was about creating a superhero, drawing it and giving it a backstory (enemies, allies, powers and such). Since I still had an cutout "R" from the previous class I simply traced it's contour, gave it little arms, legs and a little cape and called it "Super R". His allies, enemies and the people he protected were all other letters from the alphabet. My point is, that concept would probably have made a more interesting movie than fucking Emoji movie.

Sometimes I say I don't like a movie because it feels corporate. "But aren't all movies put into production because a business decided the movie will make a profit?" is what I usually get. What I mean is that the movie, like all corporately made movies, was a corporate decision, but then no elements were added to make it feel human or unpredictable. The emoji movie is a movie that was decided by businessmen to be made because teens know what emojis are and can relate to such a movie. And that is exactly and the only thing the Emoji movie is. The reason MCU movies have been successful despite their movies being decided to be made years before the script is even made is because they add something that either makes those movies feel new and unexpected, or they give characters that seem to have real human emotions.
