I tried reading the wiki. I think it's physically impossible. Every article links to dozens more, each one spanning 10-50 pages.. a single name can be connected to another article 20 pages long, citing dozens and dozens of events, names, places, items, each one connected to another 30 page article. I am in absolute awe at the sheer magnitude of this story. This is truly amazing.

In a lot of ways you could compare that to some of the inner workings of the Administratum haha. A Byzantine labyrinth of documents, scribblings, papers, offices, (Some completely forgotten to have existed and never shut down regardless of whether they are needed for anything) and halls of endless Bureaucracy. P.S. There is this really cool part in the book "Faith and Fire" where Sister Miriya (Protagonist) goes to a massive Administratum archive and she explains how she has to be extremely careful with the tomes she's reading through because one smudge on the paper or missing period or letter can effectively wipe out entire solar systems, fleets or Military infrastructure among other things. It's cool as hell because it really gives you the massive scale the Imperium of Man operates under.

I originally got into WH40k back in the original "Rogue Trader" rulebook days in the mid-late 1980s. The background "fluff" as what the fans call it, has always been great. The last time I actually played a tabletop WH40k game was in the early 90s with the 2nd Edition rules. I've played WH40k video games like Space Hulk on PS1, Dawn of War 1 & 2 and Chaos Gate on PC. The background story has always been fantastic. Sure there's some retarded stuff here and there, but the stories and background is in general, great.

Also another thing the Chaos Gods showed Horus in his vision was that his other brothers would be elevated to the heights of praise and grandeur, but he personally would be cast aside and forgotten once the Emperor was done with him. Niggling away at Horus' ego was a big factor in his downfall.

The saddest part perhaps is that the Emperor ended bound to the Golden Throne, unable to really guide mankind, doing what he can to protect it (cue for the emperor protects! joke). without a mouth to speak, without hands to reach for those that need help. Witnessing from a place that he despised so much, that of a deity, as other people twisted his image, his words, and everything he once stood for. In a sense, he became the very thing he swore to destroy. The Emperor, as powerful and mighty he was, also was susceptible to make mistakes and miscalculations, for he was nothing more than a man ... and I'm now a fan of the 40K series and the channel

Ksgrip I wouldn't really call Warhammer 40K Sci-Fi at all. Science-Fiction is often based specifically on the ramifications of new technologies and uses them as catalysts for exploring human thought and ideas in a speculative manner. Science-Fantasy is a more accurate description, I think, because the technology of this universe sort of just... exists. The specifications of how different technologies function and were created aren't regularly brought to the fore like Sci-Fi should be doing. There's also the fact that there's a wealth of concepts within WH40K that would be more comfortably at home in a more fantasy-inspired setting. The Warp, Chaos Gods, Psykers, Human Sacrifice etc.

The titans of the traitor legion Legio Mortis had breached the fortifications of the Imperial Palace, meaning that defeat was imminent. The Emperor could not afford to lose the relics and scientific marvels contained in the Palace, including the Golden Throne and the entrance to the human webway. He could perhaps have simply defended the Palace personally, but he had no idea reinforcements were on the way, and defense is a losing position. So he went for the throat.

How could you not mention Ollanius Pius the humble guardsman who confronted Horus on the Vengful spirit and declared "Where I fall, ten more shall take my place! And one hundred each of them! The Disciplining of Logar has to be one of the most horrific and yet hauntingly beautiful stories in the entirety of WH4K. It reminds me a lot of an event in Japanese military history known as the “226 Incident,” where a hypernationalistic sect of IJA cadets known as the Young Cadets tried to obliterate the current Japanese government because they believed it to be corrupt and not following the direct orders of the Emperor. However, after learning of the bloodshed and their refusal to cease the coup, the Emperor himself spoke over Japanese radio his discontent with their actions; the very first time in Japanese history when the Japanese people were ever directly addressed by the voice of the Emperor, himself. The Young Cadets were completely broken from hearing their Emperor’s disapproval of actions they had taken explicitly in his name, and surrendered immediately. In an attempt to act in zealous reverence for their Emperor, they instead angered him to the point that they were forsaken entirely by him. This is an embodiment of human hubris bringing about self-ruin, and the Disciplining of Logar is an exemplary representation of this tragic story.

@@utubecop11 there is an absolutely brilliant Japanese film on the subject, titled: “Four Days of Blood and Snow.” This is genuinely one of the best films I think I have ever seen, and it captures the reality and tragedy of the event in a way that is very reminiscent of Milton’s “Paradise Lost.” If you build any interest at all in the 226 Incident, then I cannot recommend this film highly enough.

One of the things I wanted the most in life, was a single-player story-driven videogame trilogy where you'd play as the Emperor and key Primarchs through the major events. 1st game with the reunification wars, 2nd game the crusades and 3rd game the horus heresy. It would really sell this core lore epicness into the mainstream. People managed to make Transformers War and Fall of Cybertron, just make something close to that.

The Emperor didnt order Magnus's death, nor did he think he was a traitor, he sent Russ to capture him so he could be judged, however, Horus convinced Russ to kill Magnus, and even then Russ tried to talk to Magnus, but traitors blocked the comunications.

I remember during my studies meeting Mark Gibbons’ tutor from his own studies and the amazing influence he clearly had on Mark, he was inspirational as almost like a character of Lore in Warhammer, he shouted at a student talking over him in a lecture, so big and bold! Haha, that was fantastic and I had huge respect for him on the spot ✅ I always dreamt of becoming a Games Workshop artist myself, having always created monstrous art of high detail for years, so I was in my element at the time.

So really when they say "religion is bad" they mean "all traditions I don't like are bad". The Emperor's faith was in some combination of scientia (knowledge) and himself. Big E's hypocrisy is highlighted in his tendency to hide everything he deems dangerous, problematic or detrimental under curtains and red tape in the name of protecting humanity. By asking people to stop asking him for reasons behind his actions and just obey, he promotes ignorance and blind obedience, which goes against his original goal of uplifting humanity. While it is understandable that he needs to keep information on the Human Webway project on a need-to-know basis, I am sure a lot of people will agree with me when I say he should have at least informed his Primarchs of how nasty and insidious the Warp is. He may not have seen them as his sons, but a bit of information would have made them fare better against Chaos. He may have been a charismatic visionary for humanity to unite behind as they reconquer the stars, but he could never be a leader who can lead humanity towards true progress. He may have done everything with humanity's best interest at heart, but he is too alien to truly understand what is best for humanity or even listen to actual humans. He was also overly confident, building a galactic empire centred around him despite being fully aware that with Chaos, he may well die while working on his great plans.

Star Wars is space Opera on a galactic scale. 40k is space Medieval Europe on a galactic scale. While they are "comparable" in some sense they each are in leagues of their own. This is coming from someone who is a passionate fan of both franchises. It should be noted that the Old Republic from Star Wars is actually more massive in size, scope, and population than the Imperium of Man. It's simple logic. The Republic at it's peak controlled roughly 40% of the ENTIRE GALAXY, while the Imperium controls, at most, 1 million worlds. To put that in perspective, 1 million planets is about 0.05% of ALL HABITABLE PLANETS in the Milky Way Galaxy, so if we assume that the SW and 40k galaxies are the same size, then the Republic must by necessity control over 100 million habitable worlds AT LEAST. And when you consider that each of those worlds holds at least a minimum population of several billion (those would be the agro-worlds the galactic equivalent of rural America) then it must also have quintillions of citizens. That being said, 40k is still the superior franchise when it comes to literary care. Star Wars is after all a space opera and exists to tell very old human stories in new packaging. 40k exists as a story of an entire civilization and it's never-ending struggle in a universe devoid of cosmic justice, balance, or righteousness, which immediately differentiates it from Star Wars.

I think the thoughts of the final priest on Earth that the Emperor talked to personally best demonstrates why he failed to truly rid the Imperium of religion. As taken from the 40k wiki;. "Olathaire realised that the Emperor simply could not comprehend the Human need for faith, for He had never encountered a question He could not answer. Bereft of the need for the reassurances only faith could bring to mortal men and women, the Emperor found it a wasteful and extremely dangerous distraction, and Uriah Olathaire was at a loss as how to explain the comfort it brought to mere Human beings." The Imperial Cult might've been founded as a way to control Humanity and further the Imperium's goals, people still choose to believe in it as the idea of the Emperor as a divine protector gives them comfort knowing that someone is looking out for them and cares for them.
