Lucius got his Commorite Stimm-Rack in the book Lucius the Faultless Blade, which took place many years after the heresy. So if going for pure canon would want to remove that

I would say they can be used in the Heresy but they should be more purple given they hadn't all switched to pink and black.

By the time you get to the siege of Terra the EC and Deathguard as described as the appearance of their 40K models and not the 30K marines. So I would say it can totally be 30K without converting anything. I mean their primarch is a giant snake, not being able to tell the armour MK on the armour makes sense.
