Interesting fact: Sting forced Disney to change the ending. In the original ending, Kuzco would end up destroying a rainforest to build his summer house. He ended up writing them a letter saying "If you do this, I will resign" and it's because he's an activist who cares so much about the indigenous people of the Amazon and their homeland. Good on him for standing up Also, Kronk is hands down the best Disney sidekick. Patrick Warburton CARRIED that movie

It could explain why he later got his own sequel, "Kronk's New Groove". It's unfortunate that one was direct to video, because it was fairly good. A couple of additions to the cast for it were Tracy Ullman (comedian/singer who previously had her own sketch show) and John Mahoney (Martin Crane from "Frasier").

This movie feels so unique, and we haven't gotten anything like it since, by any studio. They could've used this story in any setting, but they chose a weird modernized fantasy ancient Peru. All the characters are pretty ahead of their time, from the smart female villain to the conceited flamboyant protagonist. The direction also feels more adult, like they just wanted to make a good comedy with a moral instead of a tear-jerking merch printer with cute creatures. I don't think Disney will ever get this experimental again.

Fun fact: The original concept of this movie was about them worshipping a sun god with the god of darkness being sealed away. Yzma would of been a witch attempting to release the dark god in order to gain immortality. The whole movie was intended to be a musical and you can find a few songs from it on KZbin. They scrapped the script but clearly kept some of the concepts like the sun god symbolism in the palace and Yzmas skill at potion making.

Just a fun tid bit I thought I’d share: A lot of the folks who worked on this film were once a part of the Orlando animation studio, “The Magic of Disney Animation,” and towards the end of the hand drawn era, they worked on films like Lilo and Stich, Brother Bear, and Tarzan, none of which were technically musicals (even though Phil Collins scores are fire). I’ve always felt that that specific group of filmmakers and animators made really unique films under the Disney umbrella. I miss that era a lot.

I love this movie and it holds a really special place in my heart. When I went away to summer camp at age 11, it was the first time I had ever been away from my family. I got homesick immediately, and would cry when I was by myself between classes. I had times when I considered going and getting the camp to call my parents to come get me. But after a couple of days, I was able to make it through it, and had a good time. On the last night before we went home, we all gathered in the main lodge building and watched The Emperor’s New Groove and had a really chill time. This movie, to me, represents me making it through a time I didn’t think I would, and it feels like a triumph. I showed it to my kids a couple of months ago and they loved it. HUGE MISTAKE! They ended up doing a binge of The Emperor’s New School on Disney+, and that show is just super obnoxious lmao.

In the Brazilian dubbed version, Yzma is described as "uglier than a scythe fight" and I think that's brilliant 😂 It's a pretty common saying here btw, that's why they used it in the movie.

When I first saw this, I felt like everyone involved just made this movie for the hell of it. And I found it very inspiring. I'm kind of glad I watched it alone in DVD - if I was at the theater around a bunch of other people I don't think I could have enjoyed it as much. It was too... different.

I saw this at the theater and bought it on VHS "for my daughter". It remains one of my absolute favorite comedies of all time, animated or otherwise. "Somebody's throwing stuff. You gonna start a fire or what"? 😆 And does it get any better than Tom freaking Jones doing the music?!

You made me love this move all over again. I love Pocho(whatever his name is that helped Kosko) wife. She is hilarious & ON IT! She don't plaaay ! I thought I loved the movie as a child because it was a cartoon with a animal in it(I loved animals). But no, this movie is a classic & well written. Suspense, comedy, character development, aesthetic, Happy ending.

The full story behind production is pretty fascinating and there's a video about it called "The Making of the Emperor's New Groove was a Sh*t Show" I recommend watching if interested in that learning about it all. The end credit song by Sting was the only surviving song from the original script, before it was eventually completely changed

This has nothing to do with Emperor's New Groove but has everything to do with Disney I feel like either we should get a Disney Plus continuation or a sequel of inside out because inside out a great film

This movie is one that's fun to watch over & over!! So many quotable lines!! "No touchy!", "Llama face!!", "Wrong lever!", "Is that my voice???" "I never liked your spinach puffs!". The 4th wall breaking is so hilarious too!! David Spade is not my favorite comedian but his sarcastic tone for Kuzco works & John Goodman is a good balance as Pacha. Eartha Kitt as Yzma is so perfect as the villain as well as Patrick Warburton as Kronk as her hapless henchman.

You and Greg should DEFINITELY watch Klaus together on your channel! It really surprised me how much I enjoyed it. I even shed a few tears. It's funny and emotional and you're right, a real breath of fresh air with the animation. Loved this reaction as well. This was one of my favs growing up.

I was born in Peru, grew up there for the first 10 yrs of my childhood, then I moved to the U.S.(a dream come true) 😄 - Lincoln, NE, at that time - and I remember that one of the first Disney films (VHS) that I watched at home, was this one. The movie was great company and it made me feel, right at home. Ha ha! 😂 Very endearing & hilarious at the same time. 😂 Thanks for sharing this reaction & review! 🕺🏻 Blessings. 💫

Love this movie! The humor is top notch, and the trampoline is one of my favorite ever ridiculous plot devices. Kuzco being an emperor and being voiced by David Spade makes it easier to see Pacha and Kuzco as equals, but then scenes hit where you're reminded that Kuzco is just a teenager raised by a maniac (albeit a fabulous one), and Pacha's just a straight up good dad and good person taking care of a kid who's far from home.

This movie initially was supposed to be a dark, epic drama, like Lion King. In the original story, Yzma was gonna be obsessed with beauty and she knew the sun was responsible for her aging, so she wanted to kill the Emperor (since he represents the sun in their culture) and present him as a sacrifice to the god of death (or darkness, I don't remember exactly which one) in order to kill the sun. Btw, Yzma was gonna have a villain song (which lost purpose when they changed the story completely) and it's AMAZING! It's called "Snuff Out the Light" and it talks a little about how her father was a mortician and taught her all about magic. It's on KZbin, so I definitely recommend you check it out!
