Interesting fact: Sting forced Disney to change the ending. In the original ending, Kuzco would end up destroying a rainforest to build his summer house. He ended up writing them a letter saying "If you do this, I will resign" and it's because he's an activist who cares so much about the indigenous people of the Amazon and their homeland. Good on him for standing up Also, Kronk is hands down the best Disney sidekick. Patrick Warburton CARRIED that movie

It could explain why he later got his own sequel, "Kronk's New Groove". It's unfortunate that one was direct to video, because it was fairly good. This movie feels so unique, and we haven't gotten anything like it since, by any studio. They could've used this story in any setting, but they chose a weird modernized fantasy ancient Peru. All the characters are pretty ahead of their time, from the smart female villain to the conceited flamboyant protagonist. The direction also feels more adult, like they just wanted to make a good comedy with a moral instead of a tear-jerking merch printer with cute creatures. I don't think Disney will ever get this experimental again.

Just a fun tid bit I thought I’d share: A lot of the folks who worked on this film were once a part of the Orlando animation studio, “The Magic of Disney Animation,” and towards the end of the hand drawn era, they worked on films like Lilo and Stich, Brother Bear, and Tarzan, none of which were technically musicals (even though Phil Collins scores are fire). I’ve always felt that that specific group of filmmakers and animators made really unique films under the Disney umbrella. I miss that era a lot.

I love this movie and it holds a really special place in my heart. When I went away to summer camp at age 11, it was the first time I had ever been away from my family. I got homesick immediately, and would cry when I was by myself between classes. I had times when I considered going and getting the camp to call my parents to come get me. But after a couple of days, I was able to make it through it, and had a good time. On the last night before we went home, we all gathered in the main lodge building and watched The Emperor’s New Groove and had a really chill time. This movie, to me, represents me making it through a time I didn’t think I would, and it feels like a triumph. I showed it to my kids a couple of months ago and they loved it. HUGE MISTAKE! When this came out I was like "ugh that sounds so stupid" so I refused to watch it, but when I did finally get to it, it became one of my favorite Disney animations! So funny and highly quotable. An underrated classic.

I was born in Peru, grew up there for the first 10 yrs of my childhood, then I moved to the U.S.(a dream come true) 😄 - Lincoln, NE, at that time - and I remember that one of the first Disney films (VHS) that I watched at home, was this one. The movie was great company and it made me feel, right at home. Ha ha! 😂 Very endearing & hilarious at the same time. 😂 Thanks for sharing this reaction & review! 🕺🏻 Blessings. 💫

Fun fact: Pacha’s wife shares the same the same voice address as Edna from the Owl House. I love both characters

Love this movie! The humor is top notch, and the trampoline is one of my favorite ever ridiculous plot devices. Kuzco being an emperor and being voiced by David Spade makes it easier to see Pacha and Kuzco as equals, but then scenes hit where you're reminded that Kuzco is just a teenager raised by a maniac (albeit a fabulous one), and Pacha's just a straight up good dad and good person taking care of a kid who's far from home.

This movie initially was supposed to be a dark, epic drama, like Lion King. In the original story, Yzma was gonna be obsessed with beauty and she knew the sun was responsible for her aging, so she wanted to kill the Emperor (since he represents the sun in their culture) and present him as a sacrifice to the god of death (or darkness, I don't remember exactly which one) in order to kill the sun. Btw, Yzma was gonna have a villain song (which lost purpose when they changed the story completely) and it's AMAZING! It's called "Snuff Out the Light" and it talks a little about how her father was a mortician and taught her all about magic. It's on KZbin, so I definitely recommend you check it out!

The actress that voiced Izma also played Madam Zerone in the movie Holes. 😁
