Love this ship, this and the Carrack are some of my favorite Star Wars ships thanks to how much they make sense for a space navy and just how cool they are. I'd love to see more of ships like this in future Star Wars media and more Star Wars videos in the future.

Should be noted that the Lancer is back in Canon, where some were used by the First Order, both during their buildup and during their invasion. If I recall correctly, the major advantage against fighters was the targeting array. And some sources like to say that the Lancer started in the clone wars, but never went anywhere, until the first death star was destroyed and KDY decided to relaunch and retool the Lancer into a screening ship to sell it to the empire. The major issue with the speed of the lancer was more in offensive roles, where the faster capital ships would have to slow down in order to say in formation (plus in the real world some capital ships or heavy cruisers, battlecruisers, and battleships could out pace light cruisers and destroyers), and due to the mobile nature of the rebellion, that could easily let them run away (As it was stated that the lancer was a deadly threat when paired with a immobilizer to many new republic units).

Fighters have their place in void combat, but I tend to avoid any craft smaller than a corvette simply because of 24 hour ops not realy being possible on anything smaller. Gunships, fighters, and bombers are niche weapon systems, meant to deliver scalpel incisions compared to the push-button armagedon of capital ships. A corvette may have modest CIWS capabilities, but anything Frigate or above should be more than capable of taking on, say, a traditional 12 strong wing of strike craft and come out on top. Dust Guns for lasers and plasma weaponry, explosing ammo for anti-torpedo action, thick armor for slugs, and reactive/ablative armor for everything else should realistically be a feature of any Top Tier space fleet. The only weakness that void-borne strike craft should realistically target are engines. . .

250 meters, for people unfamilar.. 820 feet, big as a WWII battle ship for a frigate I find it's armament crap. In ideal situation - x4: Turbolaser for defending itself against capital ships - x20 quad laser cannons manned - x10 heavier laser cannons for defense of itself against smaller capital ships

The problem with the Lancer isn't that it's slower than the fighters that it fights, the problem is that it's substantially slower than the many of the ships it's supposed to escort.

The idea of small interstellar ships is foolish to me unless you literally have the travel speed of star wars where the fastest ships can cross the galaxy in a week. Even if your engines are hyper efficient on fuel use it would still typically take weeks to cross between star systems and you need to carry food, water and other supplies as well as living room for that period before even considering the space required for trade to be worthwhile or to carry the military power to complete a mission to say nothing of all the extra needed for the garrison of a hostile system. Star ships when they happen (and I do think they will) will not be small. Halo or even 40k are more accurate than most would think.

The reason, the slow speed is a problem is because the star destroyers are faster so a commander must either slow down his capital ship, or leave it defenseless against fighters

The fact that Star Wars fighters can do FTL, carry Nukes, Anti- Capital ship missiles, topedos, fighter to fighter ammunition, precision strike munitions, etc, should have tip the empire off that Big Ass flying fortress that is slow like walking turtle when compared to star fighter would be a bad idea. They needed a specific ship designed to screen their fleet. This frigate also seems like a downgrade. During the Clone Wars, the trade federation supposedly had frigates that are fully automated that it requires minimal # of crew to function and gave it ability to deploy more troops to the forefront of the war.

Well this is what people often forget or get wrong though it's likely you have heard all this. There were two major types of star destroyer, the 1 and later the 2...and the 1 did in fact have point defence guns (the 2 would remove them for bigger guns) as well several squadrons of tie fighters...that were quite good early in the civil war. Seriously go watch anh again those ties are giving the X-Wings a real fight. The issue was imperial doctrine focusing on fear and short term gain. Those ties had no shields so all those pilots that stuffed up even once were gone, while the rebellions shielded craft let people learn and gather experience which is far more important than being a bit faster or more agile. It's a classic case of civilians dictating doctrine (tarkin, the guy who came up with the "rule by fear" doctrine, was a civil governor and palps was more focused on the force by this point instead of doing the paperwork) and bean counters pinching pennies to trade lives over money (the empire developed shielded fighters but hardly used them to keep ties as cheap as possible). While I agree with a civilian government being at the head of the military they just shouldn't be directly telling them what equipment to use or how to fight beyond basic rules on how to treat occupied peoples or the general rules of the war.
