I have one of those, and you can get beautiful tones, but you need some time to dig inside it. The presets are OK, but you can get a lot better than those tones. The secret is to use the global EQ, adjust it and also a parametric EQ in each pre-set to make it sound more like a real amp. Thanks for the review, you're channel is awesome!!

"Dude" you are a true Professional if not then an inspired thoughtful Genius. I've been using amp/pedal simulators and multi effects units for about 30 years now and always find myself setting up 2 or 3 patches that I use consistently. The Hotone Ampero may be something I should look into for the studio.
@jeffsadie94963 жыл бұрын
I have had mine since before the Pandemic and I just love it. It's extremely easy to program. I have a great Eddie tone with the Marshall and the phaser and delay, and can switch to a Merle Haggard twang Telecaster sound, and it pulls them both off completely. Purple Rain? Yes. Santana? Yes. The hardest part of any effects unit like this to me is the semi-dirty Skynyrd tone, and I'm still working on that...but I'll get it. You can't beat it for the price.

Got one two months ago, and even as a diehard tubehead- I dig it! I use it differently for three different bands. One through the effects return of my amp, with a pair of 1x12 cabs( I turn off the cab sim in one output) in addition to going into the FOH; one straight into the FOH with both cab sims on; and the last through the front end of my Dumble clone just for some of the pedal models, which are also great-though I use a traditional reverb and delay pedal through the effects loop to keep from crushing the reverb). The assignable Control button adds sounds to each patch, making it an amazing live performance tool in an insanely small footprint. The Ampero works well in all situations. Haven't even had time to play with the bass models, drum machine or looper much yet. The looper is great for setting up patches- you can loop and change amps and parameters on the fly. The available two-button footswitch allows for even more versatility. My only real gripes are that it lacks a full effects loop, and I wish it had a separate input for acoustic guitar instead of a switch- I run Fishman Powerbridge piezo on my main guitar that requires a Y cord. The acoustic models sound very good with a piezo- you can remove most of the quack and get believable acoustic tones. Amazing tech for the money-but it boils down to sound, and this sucker delivers! They apparently have version 2 in the works a year or so away...can't wait!

Ended up putting a Marshall JH1 in front of Ampero to have an analog feeling and as fourth footswitch to drive my tone and now I'm happier the before

You'd think you'd be able to get them cheaper now but I guess they still hold their value with the all metal construction and their durability. More bells and whistles than I know what to do with. I run a drop tune pedal and a wah pedal in front of it and use the on board pedal as a volume pedal since it's too small and stiff to operate as a wah pedal for me. Have had mine for almost 2 years and never had any regrets. My only complaints are 1: (minor) The latest firmware update doesn't let you change the color of the display, and 2: (more important) I wish they would allow for parallel chaining of effects, but I suspect that there just might not be enough processing power internally to do this. Maybe the new version coming out will allow this. With a bit of tweaking I find that I can get this to sound just about as good as the Helix and Headrush at a way lower price point. In a studio you might be able to tell, but in a live situation, nobody in the audience would ever be able to tell the difference
@rinzed3 жыл бұрын
I can still change the color of the display with version 3.8. Maybe something went wrong while updating. Parallel chaining will nog be in this version. It will be possible with the Ampero II Stomp.

@@rinzed Thank you. I must have had brain freeze about the color. I have firmware 3.85sp1. I now have it set back to the blue display which I prefer. I love the unit and still say it is the best bang for the buck out there. I actually have endorsement deals with other companies similar to Hotone. But I also used and loved my Helix rack for a few years. Recently, wanting to downsize, I decided to try the HX Stomp. Hated it. They say it is the same technology but it choked out my signal from my guitar and felt horrible to play where the Helix rack sounded and felt great. Messed with the pad and the impedance, it still sounded and felt choked. So the Helix stuff was always my studio gear and my endorsement deals were for my live equipment. Now I'm using the Hotone for both. It just sounds better.

from their website: 242 effects, but only 9 at once. Same problem as my old Digitech RP-10: 23 effects, but only 13 at once, as some effects used the same circuit, and were thus mutually exclusive (such as ring modulation or phaser, but not both at once). In the end I went with separate pedals to get the effects combos I couldn't do with the RP-10. The RP-10 also required lots of menu picks to tweak effects. For someone with no amp modeler, no cab modeler, and no pedals, I can see the appeal. You could easily spend as much on an amp and pedals and such with the same capabilities. Another thing I noticed, It says 100 drum patterns, but didn't say if you could edit your own patterns. You didn't mention it either, but you did say "drum machine" which implies edit capabilities. Hotone is located in China, so odds are it's pronounced "hoe-TOE-nay". Another question that comes to mind: how many of those effects, amp models, and cab models are electric vs acoustic vs bass ?
@HiFiMonki3 жыл бұрын
Liked the copyright free red nuggent ;] at the beginning. And I agree with you, I’m old school too. The annoying thing about these units is if you wanna change one thing you need to scroll through menus, find the things you wanna change and change them. With a pedal board you just turn the knob. That being said these things are great to explore new sounds, record with, and use live if you got all your presets set up. Buuuuut amps and pedals still kick more ass.

Being able to change effects when doing the sound on sound with the looper is also a nice feature..Some of the few effects this unit has that you used sound awesome... How is the wah wah if it has any wah wah and does it have any kind of sound response like an old cry baby... I have an HX Stomp, which I like very much, but I think the form factor with 4 stomp buttons and a built in Expression Pedal is a better design in the MP-100. The screen size on it is excellent. I suspect the tones are this unit are on par with most of the other Modelers with this basic design and price range. Does the Looper have "auto sensing" so it automatically starts recording when you start playing? Can you record loops of different lengths, or are you stuck with length of the first recorded loop? I went to the Hotone Channel on KZbin, and as far as I can tell, based of the most "official" guitarists and Representatives there, it is pronounced like you did Max, as "Hot-tone." Thanks
