I think Drawn to Life was my first exposure to genre-twisted media, you look at the box and think "Oh, cute little rabbit-fox things and an adventure where I get to make my own character and elements and stuff!" but oh, oh we were not prepared for what 5th Cell was about to do to us. And we were even less prepared for it the second time, good lord.

Unmasked was good for set-dressing, sure, but when you throw literally everything you have left into an open-world style game, what's even left to do at that point? At the very least that series got to die with dignity with a follow-up nobody was interested in, as opposed to having it's corpse dragged out for a bad iOS port of the original, buried again, and then dug up once more for a quick buck on a crappy puzzle-platformer.

I remember when I finished this game it was one of the first game I finished on the DS and I wasn't aware that this little thing could play a piece of music with proper singing voices and it completely took me out. I'm not easily moved by stuff in music and movies/games but this song came out of nowhere in this pretty little game and swept me away 😢

Mp3 files took up a lot of space back then, devs could only use 1 or 2 based on the scale of the ds game. So they kinda either centralized a games motifs around one song (like here with DTL) or made it the main/title theme (a good example is Pokemon black 2 and white 2) They devs knew how beautiful this song was, I wouldn’t be surprised if they built he whole game around it

Listening to this song after years ago from playing the game as a child brings me back to simpler times. The story is probably one of the most memorable out of any video game I've ever played, and one I look back to for inspiration to this day. I'm a 23 year old man, and the cathartic feelings I am experiencing are so strong that I am on the verge of tears. This game is truly a masterpiece that will always have a special place in my heart, and I will always cherish the memories I had with this game for as long as I live.

just finished the game for the first time many many years after it being one of those "never get too far but play all the time" childhood games. I have my fair share of issues with the gameplay and especially level design, but one thing this game has is heart. The people who made this game were passionate and the pixel art is the best I've ever seen. I'm excited to play the sequel for the first time!

This game’s ending was the first time as a child that I ever cried while playing a game, it was so well put together, from the flashbacks of events your champion had orchestrated involving the townsfolk, to the conflicted feelings of both the characters featured as they are at a crossroads, and the ending with the former Mayor’s spirit looking down from the hill, as he and the champion finally move on, knowing that they left their world in capable hands… It’s just such a sweet, heartfelt ending, and far ahead of the time of games having big, emotional climaxes as standard in almost every story. Also, the scene of Wolfgang being swallowed by the very darkness he sought to control, after crossing the ultimate line, and murdering the mayor, is still a haunting moment for me 😁 Such good memories… I should break out my DS and replay it ❤️
