"A Prairie Home Companion", along with Garrison Keillor was truly a sanctuary of warmth situated in the cudgels of our hearts at a time when blatant, crass exploitation predominated the instruments of mass culture. It, and Mr. Keillor as the master of ceremony, will be truly missed.

Terry, point well taken. MPR just threw Keillor away like a piece of yesterday's trash. And they owe him for a Prairie Home Companion because no doubt it fattened many an MPR executive's wallet. And this even though the charges of sexual misconduct have not been proven in a court of law. But even if they were, and Keillor is guilty, it does not warrant the way he's been treated.

I had listened to A Prairie 🏡 Companion since 1986. I was, and maybe still am, a peculiar immigrant. I took to this radio program like a duck to water. Later on, in the early 2000s I think, I read an article by the great Dave Barry(Miami Herald's regular edition, not his regular column at the time), on Keilor's amazing talent.and body of work; 24 hours later, Mr. Barry walked in to purchase a pair of patent leather shoes for his tuxedo since he was part of a team of writers hired to write at the Oscars. I mentioned how much I had enjoyed his article and we talked about Keilor, briefly but with deep admiration. It was a very special moment for me. The closest I've ever come to true American intellect.

I was working in Walker Memorial Emergency Department, Avon Park, FL in the early 90's. A woman brought her husband in, saying "He is having seizures in his sleep". We attached him to the monitors and did an initial evaluation. Suddenly he had a seizure. The monitor was flatlined. As soon as his heart started beating again, he was fully awake and coherent, not the usual confusion following an epileptic fit. I hope the physicians checked for heart rhythm disturbances. I have loved the PHC broadcasts since the mid 80's. I have also enjoyed your books. I wish you many more years of providing happiness to your listeners.

I listened PHC for about 30 years and doubt that there will ever be an equal. The revised and renamed replacement lost something and I lost interest, as did PBS. The true shame is that PBS doesn't offer streamed old episodes, rather than trying to erase Keillor's legacy (or maybe it's a licencing issue, I don't know), but it's a shame either way. I make due by playing the few real episodes available on www.prairiehome.org.

As someone who grew up opposite the globe from St. Paul, Minnesota, I first heard A Prairie Home Companion because I use it, specifically Garrison Keillor's voice, to setup speaker systems of home theaters and car stereos. His voice has great texture and depth to it. If Garrison's voice sounded he has a stuffy nose subwoofer volume is too low. If he started sounding like he's in a wooden barrel, then the subwoofer is too loud. At first, I was completely disinterested to what he is saying but I started to get hooked to the weekly broadcast and fell in love with it.
