Doordash is ending? GOOD! Next time THINK before wasting your damn time. Yes, some customers are no tipping rich douchebags but not all can afford tips and not all drivers are entitled idiots but you all should stop falling for these greedy corporation scams, find a new job and start doing street hustles or countless other means to make money! Oh it's not realing ending? Well sad cause that means this dumb app will keep destroying people's lives :(

It's not hard to prevent a bubble burst; Just combine anything under 4 dollars with another order for delivery. As long as doordash does that, and, warns the customer low pay is low priority , the bubble won't pop. Just keep minimum offer to dashers just above half of federal minimum wage ( 7 dollars) , and, people will stick with door dash. I , according to the app, have some of the best ratings in st. Louis. My acceptance rate has always been between 74 & 90 % . I'm pretty sure that staying with a 4 dollar minimum payout, based on combining orders, would likely solve any problems. : )

My goals for dashing are also simple; I wanted a job as a delivery driver. Delivery driving is honestly what I wanted to do, after realizing local legislation outside of my state, would be likely to " shutter" any attempt to create a supplementary alternative energy market, and, prevent cheaper solutions for single appliance operation, like hobiest cd solar panels in series, or, pyrazo high efficiency radio pickups, as opposed to solar rental contracts, with higher efficiency, higher cost models, that, dont even allow for aingle buyer responsibility, with epwctronic waist. They are already forcibly shutting down wind farms & solar Churches and homeless shelters in the US. There is.... Kind of no way my energy science interest and encouragement of home building , fixing, and self reliance, wouldn't be met with lawsuits, just like that church was. : ( So, yeah. I read & listen to a lot of scary stories, and, I live in one of those cities, where, the delivery guy is called before the police, to see who gets there first. I figure ; it works with my goals, I like the job, and, people ENJOY rating my efficiency, next to public utility. Might as well do the job I like. : )

DoorDash base pay is now based on how much the customer tips not the order size or distance required to travel. Basepay should not be lowered because the customer gives a good tip
@samueljones7495
@samueljones7495 Жыл бұрын
That’s not exactly how it works. Base pay in my market is $2 to start. But every time someone declines the order it goes up. So if an order has no tip it’ll naturally go up until the base pay is high enough for it to be worth it. If an order has a high tip the order will just be accepted first thing so the base pay will stay at $2.
@kev7161
@kev7161 Жыл бұрын
Rarely do I see a base pay more than $2 (not including shopping jobs). This may mean that there are plenty of drivers willing to pick up all the crap offers so there's little need to raise the base pay. I get plenty of offers on almost all my shifts, but easily 90% are crap so it's a lot of sit and decline. If these smaller offers were only a mile or two, then great. I'd take those all day. Sadly, they're like $4.50 for 8.7 miles or something.

My next order was almost identical 1025 for about 8 Miles I took it because it was taking me right back to where I wanted to go 8.00 tip 225 base pay

DoorDash and other companies see drivers as competing contractors. The more drivers on a platform, the easier it is for that platform to find a driver willing to deliver goods for less money. More drivers save the corporation money by our inherent need to compete. In my area, I haven't seen peak pay in over a month. What's sad is that drivers blame each other or bad tippers instead of these companies that look at us as commodities instead of people.

This is the proper mindset to have IMO If there's a guy who's delivering in a Rav, some guy in a Camry can do it cheaper The guy in the Corolla can do it even cheaper The guy with the Tesla can go even cheaper The guy on the an ebike even cheapers The guy on the regular bike The guy on the regular bike with a roommate The guy on the regular bike with two roommates And it just goes on. They don't care about you making money. They care about getting those no tip orders delivered. If you can't do it, there's going to be someone desperate enough.

@DasherStu
@DasherStu Жыл бұрын
@@TimErwin To save my acceptance rate, absolutely I've done a $2.50 for 1.5 miles. Gas here is $2.27 per gallon and my car gets 30 mpgs. So I literally made over $2.00 on delivering that order. With that being said, my AR is 84% and I average $25 - $30 per hour. I do accept those $7 for like 5 miles because I can get them done quickly and I'm consistently making money instead of just sitting there. Plus I almost never have any downtime and over 70% of my orders are high paying.

@@DasherStu So you only factor in gas? There's car maintenance, oil changes, taxes. So you don't figure those in?
@DasherStu
@DasherStu Жыл бұрын
@@nocturnus6 I did the math already on it. Out of $1,400 on average I make per month, $200 for car payment (Out of a 48 month loan, I will have it paid off in 12 months by May of 2024) and insurance, and $200 for gas. So $1,000 in profit per month that I put into savings. And I don't figure those in because It's only $200 a year in oil changes (2-3 a year. Let's say 3) and $500 every 2 years in tires. You only factor in what you spend month to month and you should ALWAYS save for emergencies. I have also set aside $1,500 for taxes, but I doubt I will even owe that much as I bought my Chevy Sonic this year. And I should be able to write off the purchase of the car and car maintenance on taxes as a business expense. I also just changed the brakes and rotors, suspension, and another part on it that should last another 80,000 miles at least. All that maintenance only cost me another $1,000 and I decided to as preventative maintenance. I guess I should say that I do this as a "Part-Time" job and I have another car and a full-time job. But even so, you don't take your full-time job and from that factor in the car maintenance, groceries, bills, insurance, clothes, etc. into your hourly rate right? Because I bet most people would be like $1 or $2 per hour lol. So let's go by your logic. On Sunday I made $136.43 and drove 60 miles in 4 hours. So that's $4.50 in gas as gas is $2.26 per gallon here. So that leaves $132. Let's take out $32 for maintenance, car payment, insurance, etc. That leaves $100 in 4 hours which is $25 per hour.

Yeah I heard about that pilot, some customers found it offensive or at least in poor taste. Grubhub has always been in favor of tipping your driver and I never really heard any complaints there. I think it's how DD did it, like hey if you don't tip your order may take longer - doesn't rub the customer the right way.
@TheBetterManInBlack
@TheBetterManInBlack Жыл бұрын
@@YourDriverMike The problem arises because they call that money a tip, when it's clearly not. The customers get angry because they see it as the driver expecting extra just to do their job, and the driver gets angry because they're getting lowball offers. It doesn't even meet the definition of 'TIPS', which is (coming from a half century of restaurant work) to insure prompt service. That implies an obligation, which contractors only acrue AFTER they accept an offer. If DoorDash really wanted to clear things up and make everybody less angry, they should stop calling it a tip, and label it properly as a bid. It would more accurately label the sum as an attempt at enticing a driver to accept the delivery, and stop all the animus over entitled drivers/customers. DoorDash will never do it, though. Their entire business model is based on deception. There's a reason drivers are instructed to under no circumstances show actual receipts to customers. DD is charging a significant delivery fee, AND a significant premium on any item purchased through them, AND, squeezing the drivers more and more, seemingly every day. If they ever let the customer know that that $5+ delivery fee was only the beginning of what it took to get their food, not only delivered quickly, but at all, it would be all over for them.

I remember making 1,100 on DD & 700 bucks on UE in the same week back in September of 2020. That was a very rare week to make good money tho. And i believe i worked 72 hours that week between both platforms. Not anymore. I was deactivated from UE last February (2023) for signing up with two different accounts & I can barely clear 700 bucks a week on DD. I average around 500 a week on DD. I work less hours but that's only because I sign out way more because it's always slow. It's bad out here. I don't mind working over 50 hours a week to clear 1k a week but I can't seem to stay busy enough to stay on the road long enough to do so. I was always busy in 2020 & 2021 so it wasn't uncommon to stay out 12 to 15 hours a day nonstop. now I barely stay out 5 hours a day. I average 25 to 30 hours on the road. smh

@@puertoriqueno24 It's not dumb if you absolutely need money at THAT moment. I wouldn't make a habit of it though, you need to factor in fuel/time. How much fuel does it take to get to the location, then to return back to the restaurants. If it takes you 30 min to take the 1 order, but could've gotten 2 other runs for the same price or more for less distance then you are just wasting your time. Check your average fuel mileage and figure how much fuel it would take you to drive 20 miles and back. Depending on your vehicle it cost you up to 3$ in fuel to make a round trip, now your pay is 6$. You need to factor in the cost of maintenance items such as brakes, tires, oil etc. The further away the run, the more wear and tear you are putting on your vehicle.

Its overall more cost effective to utilize the new dashers with a two week grace period of higher priority orders. After that it starts to slide and the new people will think the wave will come up and continue to reach for the carrot that is consistantly pushed more and more out of the way until they wise up and join the rest of the ranks of experienced dashers. Door Dash then renews those ranks again. Until that system hits a saturation point to where they will not get new dashers with that carrot on the stick will we see a turn around point. I believe it may be a long time before we see that area reached. I know 20% of people coming out of high shool talk about dashing while they work college and or trade skill studies. Checking right now I got 7:30PM-9:29PM $2 (not the worst), 11:30PM-1:29AM, 1:30AM-3:29AM -- I mean this is Pittsburgh, we have few restaurants even open at that hour (closer to 3AM onwards). And then more 9:30PM+ -- it's just not doable for a lot of drivers

Yes, exactly, and they know that. This is the impetus behind peak pay promotions, is their way of moving dashers to areas they think will be busy, and has nothing to do with tip frequency. Its because they know we can run fewer orders due to heavy traffic and busy restaurants.

Food delivery has always existed but not this gig work model. The best delivery drivers are those who are paid a good set hourly pay and uber/doordash has always been a race to the bottom with trying to pay their drivers the least possible while making the driver handle all their own expenses.

For reference I’m a vet student doing door dash at night to make some extra money. Peak pay in my college town is usually a dollar but its from 7:30-9:30. I signed up a month ago and it was a referral from a friend with my only incentive being if I get to 260 orders by February 5th I get a bonus of $600 and my friend gets $900. Other than that I feel like about 60% of my orders are worth taking so every once in a while I take a crap one just to keep my AR decent. But if its REALLY busy then I’ll ignore the bad orders cuz I know I’ll get a better one replaced immediately

Here is the common scenario for me: I order two things from McDonalds. No drink, two miles away, based on traffic I wager time from getting food to getting it to me is less than a half-hour, sometimes I've seen it done in 20 minutes, but when you get to where I work you are asked to go drop it off on the third floor (which most do but if they don't no biggie either). I add a $7 tip for this order, so for me it costs like total $20 but some work days I just need something and don't have the time to go elsewhere. I do have the DashPass. Never had a an issue with a Dasher accepting, so have just assumed I must be doing right. However, am I? Am I not paying enough? Am I paying too much?

I just found you today. Watched a few of your videos. And haven't heard you mention throttling ... I'm new and skeptical . My first day was a Thursday. I made 352.38. My next dash day was this past Sunday Jan 7 2024. The morning was great I made 45 per hour the first 2 hours. But then it stalled out to no orders coming in. I went and sat at McDonald's in a active dash. And I watched 11 dashers come and go before my frustration made me leave . Made a little money for a bit but then again at the dinner rush I stayed in active dash and went and ate at Wendy's. Just I'm the time it took me to eat my burger and fries. I watched 6 dashers come and go without. In both instances both food joints are within a half mile distance of 13 other restaurants. Not only did I not get a order for the places I was sitting right inside of. I didn't get a order for anything that I was only 3 minutes away from either

It takes 15-30min to an hour for those high orders for me. I noticed i litteraly have to end and restart my dash if i go pay $20-25 in an hour to keep getting at least $20 per hour otherwise id inly make $10 by the next hour. And later around 7 when things usually pick up it just dies for me until 8 then dies again at 9 and picks up after 10 and it was never like that. It was usually consistent all the way until 9 even if i took lowwr orders it wouldn't be a long time to wait like 2 years ago before i get orders and often they would stack orders. Now I'm lucky to get stacked orders on really busy days. And majority of the time it usued to be tuesdays and thursdays that were less orders now its basically slow all week since they hired more dashers this past year. We've got a lot of people doing part time after work and I'm a fulltime dasher forces me to recover on the weekends and have 0 days off.

Funny thing is so many drivers complain about "cheap customers". They ignore that $15 order probably cost the customer at least twice as much if not more. A lot of the problem is the App is poorly made and it assigns dashers bad orders. The distance is too far to be worth it, but they do it any way. It's either a problem with the APP or they have such trouble getting dashers they have to expand the distance limits. But it's like a lot of industries that try and force the cost onto the customer via tips and other compensation. Dashers have always gotten paid minimum wage or less for the most part. You just expect special offers (peak hours), or massive tips to make up for it. Sorry but most people don't give big tips for food that took 45min to arrive and is cold. We really don't care if you drove 20 miles for it.

But I have found that even when I go out to eat, and drive myself like you said, good service is still rare, and I still end up getting frustrated. In my market Dashing a is dead unless you are a Top Dasher at 70%. DoorDash has made drivers into employees by forcing them to “follow their set rules” and drivers are following them down the path as if you have to when you are still labeled an “independent contractor”. It’s really sad and as drivers I’m not sure why we all don’t group together to say we won’t take orders for $2 base + $3 tip or at least some threshold. This would force DD to change base pay and customers to increase tips or not get their order in turn them not using the app. We can’t let doordash treat us like employees and control us when we are not employees
