This is going to be the last entry in my retro systems stories playlist. I'm ending with the Nintendo 64. I don't really consider anything that came after it retro.

I got the N64 when I my early teens, coming from the SNES without seeing a PS1 or anything 3d at the time - wow, it was quite a jump, and much like you, it was a marathon of Mario 64, non-stop! I really enjoyed watching all your system reviews, and I like how it's unscripted and natural, you're a likeable person. Thanks for sharing.

i was excited for N64. shadows of the empire got me hooked seeing someone play it lol. but i only ended up liking a few games: mario 64, mario kart 64, banjo kazooie, golden eye, doom 64, quake, and i think that was it lol. i really didnt like the games, the blurry textures. but like Ed, i saw pc games and after a few years of playin N64 and being bored of it, i went to pc gaming directly for over a decade. at the time, the 3D graphics were amazing and i explored all the hallways in golden eye, every corner, loved it. but after a few years... ehhh... it got old quick. pc gaming introduced me to diablo, doom, doom 2, duke nukem, blood, redneck rampage... and then the big one - half life. half life with various mods... wow. i was a console hater at that point! little did i know retro games and consoles would be uber expensive 20 years later. if i knew, i woulda bought every game i could cheap at funcoland lol! but half life got me hooked. around 2009 i was tired of spending $400 or more every year to upgrade to the latest video card or to buy more ram. so i quit pc gaming.. went back to console. been here since. i agree with Ed about feeling ocarina was boring. i dont like breath of the wild, either. i liked wind waker and twilight! but not the others. still irritates me people say "halo is retro!" no, it isnt. "ps2 is retro!" no, it isnt. these are people thinking "because its old, its retro." no. thats like saying, because a prius is 20 years old, u can show up to a car club with it and say "hey guys look at my classic car!" the only games now days that make me wanna explore every corner? are VR games. but even that will wear thin after a while im sure. i have an N64. lots of carts. do i play it? nope. could i buy an hdmi converter and hook it to my big hdtv? yep. will i? nope. would rather play genesis/snes/nes minis or my Retron5.

I respect your opinion, but I personally draw the line at the 6th generation of consoles. Dreamcast, PS2, GameCube, Xbox, Game Boy Advance and WonderSwan are retro in my book.

Really? What's retro about PS2? It's pretty much the same as the systems we play today. No only that the games are the same as well. GOW, GTA, etc.

@@r3games1985 i dont consider any cd-rom games to be retro as they arent pixel art based. u have "anomalies" like 3DO and Sega CD for example that were out during the cartridge era. but i dont consider them "retro systems" proper. so im with u on that one.. PS2 and the rest are NOT retro. they're good early 3D consoles that paved the way for consoles today! but not retro.

Ed, I think I have to end this relationship. You did not like Zelda Ocarina of time. That was the game of all games. But to be fair I was not a huge fan of symphony of the night. I thought there was too many items. It did not feel like a big deal when you got a new weapon.

i didnt like SOTN simply because it WAS metroid-ish. i like castlevania 4. every screen was a new area, u felt like u were really on the way TO dracula's castle. the swamps, the forests, the outer courtyards, the inner entryways and hallways, then back outside. SOTN had good music, nice graphics, but runnin thru the same hallway 500 times over several hours of gameplay was a turn off for me. ocarina was over hyped. it was the first zelda 3D game and had quirks galore. i liked a dfew dungeons, but not the game overall. wind waker got my attention and twilight was a masterpiece for me. BOTW is just... weird, didnt like it.

Funny you mention it, my friend told me he picked his out of a dumpster and it worked! It’s too bad you didn’t know at the time that your Japanese console would’ve worked with US carts if you opened it and cut those pesky tabs off.

Love the story you told in another video about how you are going to the gym and eating better now. What is your advice to make that switch and then what advice do you have about sticking with it?

Too bad they didn't make more 2D games like Mischief maker or the first Killer instinct from the arcade, the 2 disappointed me greatly with its crushed sprites. After Zelda 64, in my opinion, there is nothing on this console, which is far from having buried the consoles of previous generations (at the time of its release).

Banjo Tooie was the best 3d platformer on the N64 , it did something impossible , it expanded on the previous game in major ways , SM 64 paved the way but Tooie , and Kazooie and Conker's Bad Fur Day to a lesser extent , took that concept further SM 64 is definitely the second best 3d platformer on the N 64 but for me it's a close call , like 1 a , 1 b scenario

With the Super Nintendo it only made sense to call the next system Ultra, however I think Nintendo realized that the naming scheme had already come to an end, it was a better idea to free themselves from "super" "ultra" and I assume the next one would have been "ultimate" before it became nonsensical, xbox is perfect example in my opinion of how not to name your systems because I literally can't tell them apart, I know there's an original and a 360 but after that it's all one big jumbled mess.

All of my N64 games still work fine, all my ps1 games which is just a few, have died from disc rot, cartridges will last longer, also disc drives suck ass, my nintendo 64 will probably run forever, but both my wii and gamecube have died from drive failure, disc is not the way to go at all, which is why I'm glad even the switch uses cartridges.

Aw man I got a PS for my 14th birthday in 97 and I loved it, but my friend got an N64 for his birthday a few months later and I remember being quite envious of it when I played Mario 64, Shadows of the Empire, KI Gold, Turok and Starfox,there was just something about the N64 that early in their life cycles seemed cooler than the PS, even the 64 control seemed cooler and more advanced.

I’ll always remember how the snes games just sank in price and VALUE when the N64 dropped. The department stores in my small town never had the memory cards in stock ever so we had to play games like Turok for hours before it eventually got turned off lol I’ll always love N64 Castlevania

However, Blasphemous (finished at 100% without soluce) has plenty of good things to do. Clearly above Saga of Sins which does not even compare. I haven't see the trailer of the 2, surprise for me.

Nes could be thrown out a 2nd floor window and would power right up. N64 could take 1 gallon of water dumped over it, after it dried it fired right up they really were tanks of systems

I thought Ocarina of Time was very fun and all, but I recognized, the bad graphics. And I LOVBED SNes RPGS so what another big disappointment ont he crap 64 system.

N64 worst Nintendo system by far. Home console system I mean. I got it at launch, sight unseen. How could it go wrong? Then it kept getting no games. Stuff I did not want and that I wanted all foggy and low framerate and crap and overpriced. I axtually wanted castlevania, had fun reenting it, but could not afford the $90 cnaadian dolars it was sold for and I never saw it on sale. So one of the few games I actually wanted I never got. And itnernet now tells me it was crap anyway! And the morons put the analog in midle and not on left side. Since 999$ of games are analog stick it should have been on the fa rleft side.

I could not afford a game or a sytsem inthe first place let alone pay for higher import prices. Then u r locked into the japan only system, and cant read the text and have to import all the rest? I would not have wanted to go that route

More on my experience, I got ahold of a pc with voodoo 2 12 meg graphics, so I played like good 3d quake and quake 2 and healflife BEFORE I saw the trash that is Goldeneeye. I was not impressed with Goldeneye. But I understood why the console noobs loved it so much. My nephew made me play goldeneye with him and it annoyed me but he was a kid so just playing was fun.
