I remember seeing the Faxanadu game box in the store back in the day and wondering what it was all about, but I never knew much about it until recently.

Looks awesome, Ed. Wish you could do a Wizards and Warriors Trilogy remake. There are so many improvements you could make like equipment upgrades kind of like Ironsword did. There were some hidden Sindarin treasure and equipment that did nothing in the original and only give you more points. Also in Wizards and Warriors 3 they had your main hero switch from Warrior to Thief, and Wizard whenever you joined a guild after finding a treasure. I would imagine that this would be an easy task for you since you did character switch on Castlevania 3 and TMNT game. I’m sure you could do several improvements to the battle system and also make part3 even better than the crappy rushed original version we got.

TG-16 wasn't a (bad system) but it had a ton of (badly developed games). Most good games were locked to the Japanese audience and so thus killed the system. I blame bigoted executives who thought the international market was a good place to dump games that weren't selling well in Japan. Like a garbage disposal that paid out cash for trash we were nothing more than a trash bin. I loved my tg-16 but understands what killed the system there wasn't any value proposition just to get 2 players you had to buy a turbo tap that was I think 30 bucks, for composite video and audio you also had to shell out like 60 bucks for the turbo booster. Also the addon CD-rom didn't stop there with its 400 bucks you needed a super system card relatively soon after and if you want the fullest out of the system an arcade card pro which was godly expensive to import. Its just unreasonable to pay such a hefty price for a machine that lacked all the best games. Last nail to the coffin was the controller cord being short charging 10 bucks for an extension cable shows just how predatory they were. Keep in mind the TG-16 had a 199.99 price tag and you still needed to pay for basics like multiplayer.

Dude, this may be a long post but I wanna say I almost made a close friend become super upset when I said FF7 wasn’t my favorite. He asked if it was this or that, but in general… what upsets me is that they never enhanced FF7 with a remaster. Not a remake, but a remaster that fixes bugs, text, items, etc. What we’ve been getting from SquareEnix each FF7 release is a port with some mod added in. I have the phone version with mods added to turn off monster encounters… the Switch version from what I hear has a x3 speed up. But none of this fixes the issues plagued in the game. I’ve been playing all the FFs for the first time (each) in order. However, I played the remastered versions of FF1 through FF6. And, I can say: Party size isn’t as much of an issue until you want to level units or trade gear. It’s not optimized for that so it’s sluggish and tedious. You are also forced to keep a “party leader” in so basically by the time you get to the end, Cloud is the most OP. The battles take forever on ports. It’s slower than on PlayStation. The ATB is ridiculously slow. Enemies typically take two turns before I take one. The game over complicates everything. You need a materia to find Chocobos (and then catch them, breed them, find secrets…). You’ll want a materia for the Emrald Weapon fight, but it’s hidden in a side quest. The Battle Arena is pure RNG if you win, and is frustrating. If you want to beat Ultimate Weapon, it’s over complicated because you have to bump into him multiple times and hope he lands somewhere. You fight for a moment before he flees and the cycle repeats. I can understand limiting weapons and armor, but having only one accessory slot is going a bit far. Item prices need to be adjusted because it’s very costly to buy materia early game with buying other items and weapons… Not sure if this happens on the OG version, but on my port the Snowboard minigame was buggy with trees appearing as the skybox sometimes. And for some added QoL. Make the camera tilt for some areas to prevent players from bumping into things or to show something in a better way, the game is in 3D so utilize it. An chocobo breeding item is available way too soon at the chocobo stable location, fix the code to make it hidden. Make it so that hints for certain hidden stuff in the game can be found (Materia Mines, where to look for the Sector 7 key, there’s an underwater town in Funon, etc). Either make the item box with Barret’s ultimate weapon visible to all or force Barret into the party during the part of the story where you face Hojo, this is terrible game design. Just to make the game quicker in end game, make it so that all Source items are available in different shops to buy; the whole Morphing mechanic is dumb. The Morphing mechanic can stay as it was something designed in the OG, but it’s monotonous… As for graphics, I never minded their look. And, funnily enough, they have the sprites for the OG cast already with that FF7 Rebirth minigame.

🤩How A-W-E-S-O-M-E is that!!! 👍👍 🌌Didn't know about a remake of Faxanadu before finding this video! - I will try it out! Faxanadu and Guardian Legend are, for me, THE games of the NES, besides the obvious ones like Zelda and Mario. If you have the time, and want to gift the world not one but TWO software gems, please consider a remake of Guardian Legend as well. 🌠* ___ * 🟠 Thank you a lot!! 🟠

Looks like you managed to effectively RESHELL TMNT while DESHELLING the original game in the process! Because now who in their right mind would ever want to go back and play that outdated piece of crap when you've single handedly created a version of it that's far superior and way more playable? Not I.

I owned one of these, and I really did love the games. The biggest problem in my mind was the lack of screen coverage with most of the early FMVs being locked into a 160×120 resolution (absolutely unwatchable in this day and age) which even back then made the graphics horribly grainy like a VHS tape that degraded over time, and only covering a measly 1/4 of the screen. It was a great idea, but the ideas were way ahead of the technology. If it came out a few years later when the screen resolutions and data transfer capabilities improved, it would have been a massive success. CD speeds for it were capped out at 150 kbytes a second which would have at best been able to support less than 15 frames per second with the quality we see (someone out there did the math on it. Search for Sega CD FMV VQ Analysis).

4:15. I agree. I think it would have been better if it had been 2D (like Suikoden 2) when you were in the field, but switched to 3D when you were in a battle or there was a cutscene.

For whatever reason the Saturn never took off in New Zealand, it was there but it was overshadowed big time by Sony and Nintendo, I only knew one person who owned one with Sega Rally and Virtua Fighter which were cool but I never had a desire to own one.

Aw man I got a PS for my 14th birthday in 97 and I loved it, but my friend got an N64 for his birthday a few months later and I remember being quite envious of it when I played Mario 64, Shadows of the Empire, KI Gold, Turok and Starfox, there was just something about the N64 that early in their life cycles seemed cooler than the PS, even the 64 control seemed cooler and more advanced.

You could make a game that improves on the mechanics of Metal Gear, a "spiritual successor fan game", with original characters, story, and name. That would be no problem. But you're selling games based off IPs that you have no legal or moral right to. Look at "Freedom Planet" for example, a very popular indie game that started out as a Sonic fan game. Why can't you do the same thing?
