Wow im so glad i found your channel, please keep the vids coming !! Im learning invaluable methods , practices and knowledge i couldn't have dreamed about.. I just bought a 17' mark twain, bowrider , took the eng out to free it up, that worked out. In the process i find i have rotted stringers & floors. But your videos give me tons of enthusiasm ... Cant thank you enough !!

I reached that point with my whaler when I dug into it and all the foam was soaked. Almost hauled it away. Buckled down and got it stripped and had fun doing it. Plus people love to watch people rebuild boats. Can do a cool mini series on a basic stringer and floor setup and transom.

I love this stuff so it doesn’t bother me. I’m excited to get past this part though and make some cool stuff

Russ, you asked sfxlaser a few days ago whether laser cleaning machines can clean fiberglass without damage. Have you checked my email reply?

I didn't get any emails. russ@backyardboatworks.com

I know it's extra work but it'll be worth it in the end, maybe not financially but then most boats end up costing five times more than expected! That's why we love them😂😂

Man I am really digging your Channel👌👌 I definitely can feel your frustration as I am working on a 1990 Cajun center console that I'm building from the stringers up with some major modifications... And like you I love doing this stuff what helps is I have a friend helping me that knows and does this for a living... Can't wait to see some other cool videos from you😁😁🙏🙏

I have a new video on this coming soon. I finished cutting the coring out already.

I replaced a transom on a boat, got the whole thing painted, re-rigged only to find the hull was cored just like that and wet the whole way across and all the way forward. I unrigged it, stripped it of all valuables and drug it to the dump. found a boat that was solid glass and needed everything i had taken off.

Bummer.

That is unfortunate. I can definitely see a point about do you cut your losses or keep going. Seems like the juice might not be worth the squeeze on this one 🤷🏼♂️

It’s only a few hours to dig out the coring. Gonna keep going.

I dont know your end game for this boat or your investment so far? But when i do full restores i make sure i get a boat that will return most of my investment money. I do mostly name brand boats and dont spend 20k on a boat thats worth 5k when completed
@boatcrafterscollective9 ай бұрын
The end game is to keep it and use it as a tender for my 37’. If it said Boston Whaler on the side of it would it make a difference ? At the end of the day it’s a pile of fiberglass that floats. I could care less what the brand name is.

@BackyardBoatworks someday you will sell the project and its worth more if the boats got a higher end name...

That’s tough call man. I think you need to decide what you want to do this year really. Could sell that Yamaha for $4k or so. Buy another boat for around there to have fun on. But that’s one of the best motors ever made really. So reliable. Anything you buy it’s gonna be rotted out anyway as you know. Plus you figure in time to haul the boat to the junkyard and pay $50-100 to dump it. Couple hours of time all said and done. You could have that core stripped out and sanded down in 2 hours I bet. Another couple hours to lay the stitch mat and just do a rough glass and you’re done. Don’t have to be pretty anyway so can be done quick. Couple stringers and nidacore floor and boom

Draw the line based on final valuation. If a reputable named hull with good market value, restoration makes sense. Otherwise, some boats just need to be scrapped.
@boatcrafterscollective9 ай бұрын
I disagree. If I restore a boat I’m putting my name on the side of it and to me that’s more valuable than a factory built junk boat. Beside. I’m building this to keep not sell.
@robertgangi50419 ай бұрын
@@boatcrafterscollective I get it -- if it is a good hull, you're going to keep it and you love it, showing it some love makes sense.

I’ve used those before but I found that shoot off pieces of disc a lot easier.
