Here's something interesting I found: While the comic has the feel of taking place at the end of any iteration of the franchise, there are a few incarnations that don't fit well in particular: The Beast Era of G1 and Animated. It makes sense when you think about what both of those are. They are the good endings to Last Bot's bad ending. With the exception of Moon, who was not originally a transformer in BW2, and Scylla, who has been depicted in several comics as being a Decepticon, the lack of Beast Wars characters makes sense because in its good ending the war had ended. The Autobots definitively defeated the Decepticons and their entire species upgraded to be more energy efficient. Even the Predacons, the descendants of the Decepticons, changed to be less destructive in their plans on a galactic-level scale, with the odd exception or two. The worst that the continuity ever gets when it comes to a fate is Beast Wars: Uprising, where the fate of the universe was for the Transformers to be limited to a narrow stretch of space and starve, not destroy the universe's capability of supporting life. Meanwhile in Animated, the great wars have not only been limited to Transformer controlled space for the most part, but also have been over for millennia. The two factions might despise the other, but they have found a (mostly) stable status quo. Ultra Magnus might have the means to restart the war, but he has no desire to. Megatron wants to restart the war, but he lacks the means without obtaining what he doesn't have at the start of the series such as the All Spark or Space Bridge technology. The galaxy is also thriving, showing no signs of complete life form eradication. Last Bot Standing is where none of this happened. The Autobots and Decepticons never upgraded into more efficient forms. Their war spread out and destroyed everything around them. Their war didn't end until there was little left. Also, I'm glad that the comic went with Wheelie instead of Grimlock as the veteran. For all of The Lost Light's faults, I actually like how that story ended for Grimlock and the Scavengers.

Last Bot Standing was an absolutely amazing and epic story and ending to Transformers IDW, love how Steeljaw was the main antagonist of it! Love how dark they made Rodimus, him killing a Cybertronian by ripping off his head was brutal.

This story gave me a lot of TMNT: The Last Ronin vibes, which was another IDW story which deals with a lighthearted character having to struggle for survival as the last of his family. IDW wasn't perfect but damn did they put out a ton of bangers when they put in the effort.

Basically, rodimus has to save a bunch of cowboy furries from discovering the secrets of the Atom and cease the existence of a bunch of vore-loving transformer lead by the ultimate cybertronian furry planning on making the planet thier dinner. The best part of the story was tigerhawk fighting gigatron in the 2 page spread action scene.

The saddest part is that it feels like Hasbro doesn't have much interest in anyone publishing new TF comics, as they've been trying to cut corners on everything they can for the last years, and comics are always the medium that gets sacrificed in these scenarios.

In a weird way, last bot standing is a sequel to the death of optimus prime, if that comic book tried to take the story out of the eternal cycle of war and violence, this story is about the life they had after that (not literally, metaphorically for IDW comics more so) and it coming to an end.

When I read this comic, I just sobbed. This is so tragic and fantastic OMG. As you pointed out in the video, this story can fit perfectly with any Rodimus. And as for me, Rodimus IDW1 is the best, because this character seems so similar to ordinary people that if he did become like Optimus, society would still not accept him. (Yes, I am a fan of Rodimus IDW1 and what will you do to me?) And the best thing is that IDW showed the end of the bots that seems the most real and grounded. ❤

I adore Last Bot Standing, it’s one of my favourite Transformers stories of all time. I love stories that give finality to a franchise or character, and LBS does an amazing job, it’s Tied with Regeneration One as my favourite ending to the Transformers

I started reading the IDW books from Death Of Optimus Prime onwards (Though i did already have the hardcover LSOTW and IDW Collection Vol 1 books) and really enjoyed them. Granted that's mainly MTMTE like most people but i quite liked the Windblade/Til All Are One stories, until it was cut short cos of Revolution. IDW 2.0 however just felt... dull... The most interesting part was Windcharger regaining his penchant for absolutely fuckng up Seekers with his magnetism powers.

Mannn you mentioning TFA Roddy really does make me wish he can get his own season arc. I really love seeing the journey for dat Hot as a gilf Roddy. And yeah I really love the use of using cheesy or out of nowhere elements in a franchise and putting those characters in the context of current standards of writing. I'm looking for the future, and hopefully the future Transformers comics don't try too hard to be different from IDW when it comes to getting rid of elements expecting a new kind of comic crowd, for example removing the queer elements and the deep exploration that a comic allows for, the mainstream barely keeps up with what new Transformers show is around. Also it's kinda funny how IDW straight up did Scrapnik Island lately when looking at Last Bot Standing. They have a thing for orange bots that wear cool desert mantals and looking roughed up.

It could be IDW Rodimus since he shows familiarity with a Lost Light when Shib mentioned it, although it depress me considering how hard literally every character fought, the amounts of sacrifices made for the peace between Humanity, Cybertronians and other races, plus it kind proves the Antillian right that the they should've died, plus thinking that the Lost Light crew died also makes me feel like everything in the IDW verse all for nothing. Still its a good comic, but I just prefer it to be its own continuity because its just that bleak if you put in any other continuity aside from a standalone piece of media made specifically for this comic.

So what could be a cool thing for the new comics to explore if they want to have multiple titles in a single timeline that aren't crossing over with one another is to explore the time period that was mostly skipped over in the Transformers Exodus novel between when Megatronus changes his name to Megatron and when Orin Pax becomes Optimus. Maybe following one of the other gladiators and exploring the society that gave rise to the million year conflict, and why so many bots refused to follow the leadership of this newly appointed prime from the upper casts.

My only Gripe in this series, is there is not enough old characters. I wish there was at least someone else besides wheelie. Also I think it would have been more clever to have used the insecticons as some of the last living beings too since they had a whole swarm reduced down to only a few remaining, plus they would have blended well into the robo animal cybertronians because they already are part animal and eat organic materials

I will miss idw a lot, so many characters were perfected in this continuity and given love and care. And From my experience with a certain blue hedgehog, I agree having an overly serious, grim dark, melodramatic story with pretty goofy characters isn’t going to work out so good. You have to be able to acknowledge how silly and sometimes downright stupid this stuff is. Being self aware is only a bad thing if it diminishes the characters and story.

I loved the 2019 continuity. I didn't like Last Bot Standing much, but having Moon in it was genius. I found it boring and a let down overall. The 05 continuity was superb except for the Phase 3 stuff with the crossover characters like ROM etc.
