And it was in this position that I stopped everything I was doing just to watch another Agadmator video. What's the idea behind this move? Well, the idea is quite an interesting one, so feel free to pause the video and guess the idea..

The idea is to set up a pawn trap for Medo so he can't escape his sofa in the next move.

Most certainly. I agree on both points. As much as I want Fabi to win, I don't see it happening. I heard a crazy fact the other day: in Magnus' two WCC title defenses, he has lost only TWO games! Crazy.

I believe svidler misplayed that endgame he should have took off for the other pawn at 13:44 and the Blick king will have to waste 2 moves to capture ur pawn, this will be enough headstart to capture the black pawn and also stop the black king from entering the position

I know the very very basics of chess and I don't play it, but I enjoy watching high level chess and love watching your videos for the breakdown and other possibilities that could hav happened or why something didn't! It would be helpful for those of learning, or are rusty, if when you post a game that reminds you of a study technique that helped you improve, that you shared it with us. At 11:05 it is simply possible to capture both pawns with the king. And eventually force a win with superior material. The double first move with a pawn can simply be captured by king to g6 and then h6 or h5 depending on Carlsen's move. Did you miss that or am I missing something?

I looked at the losing move long enough to figure out that white promotes first, then went for the "push the white king up against the wall" technique to force a draw. I would have been very very surprised if there had been a win for black, because of the positions of the kings being closer to the black pawns than the white pawns.

QUESTION FOR CHESS NERDS???? Look at the video at 13:42,.... What happens if the White King starts heading over to the left side of the board on this move? The Black King could not just follow the White King over. First he would need to waste two more moves to capture the white pawn on the H file. Would this then give the White King enough time to get over to the other side of the board, capture black's pawn and queen his pawn? I have no clue I didn't try to work it out. But I'm sure you guys will. Thanks!
@ShanXton

The white king can't start moving anywhere in that position cuz it's black move. LOL
@Mystic0Dreamer
@Mystic0Dreamer 6 жыл бұрын
Ok, try 13:44 then. It really shouldn't matter. If the white king starts heading toward the other side of the board BEFORE advancing his white pawn to H6, then the black King is still going to need to waste two moves capturing the white pawn before starting to chase the white king to the other side of the board. This should give the white king time to get to the other side of the board, capture the black pawn there, and still be able to protect his remaining pawn to be queened. I finally did try working this out and it looks to me like it should work. And the black king really has no choice but to capture the white pawn on H5. He can't just ignore it and start chasing the white King to the other side of the board. That wouldn't work.

@ 13:42 If it was the white king move, then it would actually take the black king 3 moves to capture the pawn, and what you said would work. But in this scenario with two moves to capture the pawn, it won't work. The black king will head towards the corner and get in the way of queening, so it's the one move difference that makes this a draw. Carlson is an endgame specialist, and he won't make such a mistake.

Carlson wouldn't have been the one who made the mistake. Carlson had the black pieces. It would have been Svidler who blew the chance to force a win. Although, I think you are right anyway,. Maybe the black king could make it back in time to prevent white from both capturing the black pawn and queening his white pawn on the A file. I think you're right, it would still end in a draw. It does look like the black king could get back over just in the nick of time to prevent the white king from protecting his white pawn sufficiently. So I guess I was wrong. Sorry about that.

On move 54 , Kf5 , what happens then? Seems like black does't have the time to capture h5 and go back to a8 !!! What's it that I missed ? :p

Hi folks and Agadmator! What about a "Bronze League Heroes" serie? A guy tried out this idea with Starcraft games and he had a lot of success. It was hilarious, entertaining and very useful for the ego and the rating of the average player. I'm a 1000 Elo player and a lot of funny and crazy stuff happens here. Thumbs up to let Agadmator see this comment

I dont understand how white couldnt win at 15:31? If white king went to H6, wouldnt that block the black king from moving making it checkmate? I dont play Chess so I dont know all the rules. Could someone explain?

Since the king isn't in check and black has no moves, it becomes stalemate. This means that the game is drawn, not won by white.

Fabi is preparing some deep stuff as he did against Anand in the Olympiad. Waiting for some novelties. Fabi is definitely a beast in Classical Game. But I think Magnus will somehow manage to retain his title. However, I believe Ding Liren is gonna be the next champion. Even Magnus has not been able to defeat Ding recently.

The endgame is a draw no matter which side the king goes ( you showed it wrong , should be Kb3 , then king c2 , and when white promotes to a queen your pawn will be on a2 which is a draw)
