I think Jimmy redemption was for Kim, I don't think he wanted to go back in time for Chuck. Jimmy never really regretted his crimes, not even in the last episode, he knew how to play the game and he liked it. Despite everything, Jimmy always wanted to be loved and accepted, but he was always rejected. He was rejected by his brother and society that always looked down on him. In the Walter flashback, Jimmy's two responses disapprove of Walter, even as Jimmy says he could have helped Walter get his company back from his former associates. Walter says Jimmy would be the last person he would look for....this offends Jimmy. In Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul we saw Jimmy always trying to treat people well, helping them, but not most of the time these people always treated him badly. Skyler is a good example, Jimmy always treated her well, but she always treated him badly. And that's ironic, many of Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul are just as bad as Jimmy, yet they make a bad judgment about Jimmy. That's why I think Jimmy Redemption was for Kim, they fought, they didn't speak for years. He needed to make it up to her because Kim is one of the few people who has always respected and treated Jimmy well.

I think this is a great interpretation/analysis. I also immediately thought that this was about Kim. Also because the series somehow needed a love story - and I appreciate that it's not the typical Hollywood love story btw also what makes BCS great. But I didn't know why I thought this. I think you really nailed it. With this info I'm ready to rewatch all seasons for the 4th time although the story gets much sadder in light of the last episode ;)

He did it to save what was left of his soul. Part of that was salvaging what was left regarding Kim, but also, he was having his moments all throughout the episode and at the end of the previous week's when Carol Burnett says "I trusted you" to him, causing him to flee and let her use the Life Alert. After all, Jimmy was once "A lawyer you can trust" who worked with the elderly. That and all of the flashback scenes in the final episode to me shows that this was a gradual process culminating in him finding out that Kim confessed about the Howard situation to Cheryl. At that point, Jimmy decides he's going to follow suit and come clean about everything to court, and when you think of it, him on the outside of that 7 year sentence is probably the same old Saul Goodman who only causes suffering around him with his scheming ways. He can't hurt people behind bars like he can on the outside. In essence, he confessed everything for his personal salvation, for Kim, and probably for his brother in part too, who held the law very sacred and certainly would've been hurt seeing Jimmy exploit it so much.
@cowtoystorybeer2 жыл бұрын
I forgot to write. What also makes your interpretation quiet accurate are the 2 scenes with the inmates in the bus and the kitchen. He's smiling because of their approval. He bumps fists with them and they seem to genuinely care about him. The prison might not be the baddest place for him after all because at least he is around people who respect him more than the ones in the outside world. For me this is sad and comforting at the same time.

The ending is perfect. For the first time in his life, Jimmy doesn't have to pretend to be whoever else. As Jimmy, he doesn't have to pretend to be honest. And, he doesn't have to pretend to be Saul, either. He can just sit back and relax on top of all the street cred he spent years building. He can be Jimmy BUT reaping the reward of being Saul in prison. It's the first time he is truly RELAXED and not tense about the future in years. Man is gonna do his time like a fucking king.

Alternate ending: Jimmy pleads for 7 years incarceration with a checklist of his demands. He had a last checklist, which is not revealed yet. Judge grants him 7 years. Meanwhile he helps Kim with the civil suit from inside the prison, that way he gets to see Kim often. Also, he had great prison time since he helped many inmates there. 7 years later Jimmy is released. screen fade to black. Next scene: Jimmy teaches a class about criminal law (his last demand in the checklist). The place where he teaches is University of American Samoa. The end.

Better than the finale
@EezeeX8882 жыл бұрын
This is how i interpreted the finale. Jim is clever enough to reduce a possible 130 years sentence to 7 years but had to intentionally burn himself instead for 86 years to save Kim and Kim gets it. Jimmy wanted her to be safe and successful as a lawyer more than anything in the world(for jimmy). Jimmy's love for Kim manifested by his subtle change throughout their relationship(especially during grave events). Irony played well when the audience were set to think Jimmy's character is the one that could never change and is heartless thru his antics when in fact he actually does things always based from really deep feelings and while Kim was the actual broken sociopath. Ending it by going back as a lawyer, is her way of acknowledging Jimmy's sacrifice to save her. The pair of finger guns is just jimmy saying to Kim, "you were always there for me but this time i got you". Many things have been taken up on the finale like Time machine=regrets and prison respect for jimmy also been symbolic on how he lived his life a a lawyer but the kim jimmy relationship psych is what hit me the most. Loved the ending and how they extensively built all the characters.

It was a perfect finale with the most real outcome for the characters and us the viewers right at the very end . That being, Saul Goodman exists, from now on, in a place where innocents and players can no longer be played for Saul's benefit. Where his life goes on - not too different from the Cinnabon in Omaha existence. He has been removed from the outside world to exist, for a long time to come, away from us, away from the characters by his incarceration and gone from the viewers by the ending of the series. Now, Kim Wexler can remember Jimmy in a better light than the Saul she rejected. She will love Jimmy forever - Saul is out of her life for good. For me, that last image of Jimmy/Saul, alone, black and white as Kim leaves, places him where he belongs. A perfect final image. I will miss the stories. The exciting twists and even the the characters that come - and go. (Usually in an epic way . . . !! ) It's been quite a ride - for more than a decade.

Kim getting off and getting to practice law again was not at all a justified ending for her.

The outcomes of Breaking Bad and BCS are marked by stark contrasts. Although both Walter White and Jimmy McGill achieved some form of victory in the end, their paths diverged entirely. Walter White proved to be beyond redemption as he succumbed to his inner demons and embraced his evil nature, ultimately living without the need to conceal it, even from himself. He was never more alive than when he was dying. On the contrary, Jimmy embarked on a remarkable journey of redemption. He spent his life evading his true self, escaping the guilt of his misdeeds. However, he reached a turning point where he realized that this was his final opportunity for redemption. Jimmy battled his malevolent persona and no longer had to hide within his wickedness. He confronted his inner demon and banished it. Although he would spend the rest of his life in prison, he would finally experience a sense of liberation he had never known before. He was never more free than when he was in prison.

It was a phenomenal ending for me, but I can’t help but question what consequences did Kim really face other than the mental torment of Howard’s death, and her having to up sticks and leave everything behind. She got off too lightly in my opinion considering the fact that she enabled Jimmy a lot, which ultimately resulted in such horrific outcomes. The redemption arc of Jimmy eventually falling on the sword to save Kim made sense, but she deserved to serve time just like Jimmy without question. There’s times in the series that Jimmy wants to abstain from going full dirtbag mode, and later on in the show Kim becomes the devil on his shoulder that’s screaming “do it Jimmy” 😂. Again great ending, but I think justice should have been served more evenly.

All his life he’s been on the run really, getting in stick situations and for once he’s free and can live with himself. He loved others more than himself as he was always rejected by society. As much as I’d like for him to get back to Kim, it’s the classic kind hearted Jimmy thing to do, at the bottom of all his criminal acts and egotism he has a pure heart beneath all that. Is it just me… when on the prisoner bus, when the guy in front of Jimmy / Saul leans forward to speak to someone… the guy turns around and I can’t help but think it’s Pinkman with a beard and longer hair??? Anyone else or just me?

This has to be the shittiest opinion i have read in a while. There are a lot of great movies and series with somewhat difficult to understand ending. Needless to say, This was one was pretty straightforward and I don't think needs much explaination.

Dumb argument. Btw it's another proof that people sometimes putting likes to comments which look convincing, but make no sense 1) If you know this channel, they are explaining almost every ending, that's one of their topics 2) So you saying to me if let's say "Shutter Island" or "Inception" endings is explained it is not a good ending? Lol

It's an amazing ending how did you want it to end
@jhyland872 жыл бұрын
@@dino50 It reminds me of the ending of Flight, where both of them are right on the edge of either getting away with it or getting a much more lenient sentence, but then their conscious all of a sudden kicks in and they fess up to everything they've done wrong. I guess they need to show the audience that truth/honesty is a virtue and blah blah blah. But it makes no sense that his character would totally sabotage his own defense like that to voluntarily spend the rest of his life in prison.

That ending was the most anticlimactic ending unsatisfying ending EVER. How does the greatest conman end up in jail. That's ridiculous and absolutely lazy of the show created to end it so tragically for Jimmy. It just kills the whole story and waste of time watching the show.
