This places my mind in the thought about us (humans) being the source of the stories told about ufos, except on other planets. Aliens seeing a space shuttle (or something like it) in their atmosphere.
@kenbattor63503 жыл бұрын
There was an episode of a Babylon 5 spinoff where that happened. The alien government was fragile so they made up a conspiracy where aliens (to them) were abducting them. The more the government denied it, the more the populace believed it. That way, the government would not be blamed.

DragonSword, In all fairness, the argument can be made that the events portrayed on Errand of Mercy, weren't indicative of the preparation that these two were presumably, going to argue for amongst their incorporeal brethren. That was an incursion onto their very homeworld, by antagonists who wished to align it within their orbits. So, the Organians may have felt forced in interacting with the humans (AKA the Federation) as they did, signifying a potential change of collective mind to that earlier greenlight being accorded here. Alternatively, a decision may have been reached to reject the recommendations of these stalwarts to begin with.

A great episode, IMO. However, if you had chosen what happened about 5 minutes before this as well/instead, it would have been better. The scene when Archer is talking to the aliens was great, Star Trek-stuff...imo. Thanks for posting this, just the same.

Think about what he just said. "At the rate they're progressing, we barely have 5,000 years to prepare" first of all, how long do you have to prepare for a hello text. Second of all, at what level does humanity need to be to encounter them on good footing? We see the difference between 22nd and 25th century starfleet and the difference is pretty extreme. Even the unfortunate episodes about the temporal cold war, as terrible as those episodes were, do give us a glimpse at the near God like command star fleet has on space and time. Ant that was only 900 years difference. Imagine another 4 millenia assuming there is no upper limit to technology.

The Duke, Although it might be an unlikely explanation, perhaps the Organians' perspective on the passage of time, differs from corporeal species. Consequently, 5,000 years as they judge it, could be markedly less an interval as humans would experience it. Just a thought.

The humans being exceptionally quick with their progress is one of the main underlying themes of Star Trek. The Vulkans were a space-faring society for thousands of years before Zefram Cochrane invented the Warp drive, and there was no advancement at all. Then suddenly stuff started to happen, the Federation was founded within two generations (Archer knew him personally and was the founder of the Federation), Warp drives progressed to insane speeds, instantenous travel within the Milky Way, etc. They probably weren't used to species like that. Even the Q started to get scared by the time of TNG.

If they are so careful in their planning, why did they both agree so quickly without further consideration? Sounded a bit impulsive, which contradicts their entire way of life. Why be in such a rush if one has 5,000 years to get ready? Because they are very careful when planning. So why did they spend only seconds in agreeing to make the recommendation to their leaders? If the rules have not changed in 10,000 years, why.... Well... you get my point about the weak writing.
