I'm not a commie but god how much do I wish the Soviet space program would've been more succesful, like the N-1 reaching orbit. Just imagine the world we would have got if the space race raged on for longer

For All Mankind is great if you haven’t seen it yet, specifically in this Soviet Space Program realm of alt-history. I wish there were more media examples of that because we sure as hell know Roscosmos doesn’t have any bigs plans IRL any time soon.

Yeah the space race was one of the only good things to come out of the cold war. Its ashame the only times governments actually put significant funding into space exploration is when they want to prove they're better than other country's.

i was told a story by a guy who was in the usaf and involved with rocket launches, he was observing a satellite (either radio or tv) being launched in Kazakhstan, i believe during the soviet union, and a guard around the launch site froze to death because the conditions of the site were so poor.
