In this segment of The Henry Ford's Innovation Nation, Adam Yamaguchi meets with Robert Heimbach, the Vice President of Gala Systems, to learn more about the engineering behind transforming theater seats.
This theater transformer technology allows performance venues to change their seating without the cost and time that it would normally take. A venue could change from a flat banquet space to a tiered 900-seat auditorium in under 10 minutes by using a computerized system and mechanical steel columns that raise and lower platforms.

Please someone tell me what those columns at 2:30 are called. I have searched "compact stainless steel self building screw lifting column" and a lots of other things but I just can't find anything about them.

I believe they’re called spiralift columns

I cant remember the name but they are a type of linear actuator. It rotates and pulls the metal from coiled up to stacked. The thin band keeps the shape of the tall band to build the column.
