In my opinion, Back To The Future is the most consistent movie trilogy (at least in terms of quality), which is ironic because it breaks the key rule of a trilogy which is doing essentially the same story 3 times, yet it works given the motif of history repeating itself.

I think it works because the first one wasn't intended to get a sequel, and when they were working on the 2nd and 3rd ones they were filmed together / back to back so all the plot points were sorted out there and then.

The real reason Doc Brown taped Marty's letter back together is not only just because he was curious. Marty actually gives Doc the idea when Marty returns from the dance where his parents met in the original timeline. It's revealed in a little bit of dialogue between Marty and Doc Brown. Marty is very excited because his plan to get his parents back together succeeds beyond his wildest dreams. He tells Doc Brown about how his dad stood up to Biff and punched him out by saying how awesome it was to see his dad finally stand up to Biff. The dialogue goes like this: Marty McFly : He laid out Biff in one punch. I didn't know he had it in him. He's never stood up to Biff in his life! Doc Brown : [looks at the picture, realizing the implications of Marty's statement] Ever? Watch that scene carefully and you realize that Marty has indeed changed the past. You can see Doc Brown realizing what Marty has done. Marty has created a new timeline for his parents, and as soon as Doc Brown realizes the implications of that (Marty has indeed changed the past) he decides to tape the pieces of Marty's letter back together and once he reads it, he realizes he can change the future as well. He wears a bulletproof vest to the test of the time machine. And that was because he realizes that the timeline can be changed.

Kevin Medina: A few years ago, 1 of the creators of the trilogy said in an interview that since Marty didn't end up in the car accident in the 3rd movie, he changed the future, so everything that was originally shown in the future of 2015 we saw in the 2nd movie didn't happen, including flying cars, hover boards, and the Chicago Cubs winning the World Series (though they ended up being off just 1 year on that 1).

I've heard the argument of how could Marty's parents not remember their kid when they are grown up. The counter is that he was just some kid in school they knew for a week. With that said, there is NO WAY Biff doesn't remember the Almanac, fighting with Marty multiple times, crashing into the manure truck for a second time, and, of course, a flying car moments before all that happened.

The ultimate modern day Time Travel Trilogy which despite telling the same story in all 3 movies actually works in the narrative of history repeating itself. The performances by Michael J Fox and the rest of the cast are flawless. Part 2 has always been my favourite in the whole Trilogy for the clever way it tells the movie while revisiting the events of the first movie inside the 2nd movie.

@YoungD3mon314 Very different genres though. BTTF is a sci-fi adventure, those other movies are action/adventure, or just plain action/drama in the case of The Godfather trilogy. Regardless though, each person has their own preference of greatness. I like action movies, but are they 'better' than even one of the BTTF films.. not to me. BTTF is special in my view because its creative, its fantastical, purely theoretical stuff, but presented in a really cool and interesting way. Again, to each their own, and that's okay.

To make it "make sense" with the similar problems Marty and Doc encountered this is what I would do Instead of a DeLorean, maybe a Tesla, Lotus Evora or other exotic vehicle that looks futuristic Part 1: Marty stuck in 1990 again because Plutonium is required, bolt of lightning is used to send Marty back to 2020 Part 2: Can be pretty much the same as the original BTTF2 Part 3: If a Tesla is used, then it damaged in a shootout/small explosion in 1920, where the battery pack is damaged unable to hold a charge at all. It is pushed to 88mph thanks to a 1920 diesel train \\ If a Lotus or another gasoline vehicle is used, a critical engine sensor is shot making the car unable to start and no time to get parts to make a makeshift replacement (again, Doc has to leave before Sept 7th) and is pushed by a 1920 diesel train again.

You should be able to find a way to read them online vintage and recent. As far as picking them up in print, the ones i was referring to are recent, maybe 2016-18 or so, it was a brief run by IDW comics. It had the basic BTTF stuff as well as a Biff to the future and more on Doc and Clara with the kids on their time travelling train adventures. Really quite amusing :)

SOMETHING HUGE WAS SKIPPED! Marty breaks into Dr. Emmett Brown's lab to steal a part for his guitar... Doc Brown catches Marty and decides to hire him as an assistant (taking a liking to his enthusiasm). This was the origin of the Marty/Doc Brown friendship.

Another theory is that Marty wasn't such a good kid, stole the time machine, ended up in 1955, found younger Doc because he saw the name on the truck, but ended up stuck in the past without info on the lightning bolt. Then later, Doc is guilty for Marty being stuck in the past, befriends the McFly family when Marty is younger, in the late 70's/early 80's, and then we're at the start of the first movie. Doc then "arranged" for Marty to be in possession of the flyer about the lightning bolt, so that younger Doc would have the info they needed to get Marty back to 1985.

When BTTF 2 came out, I kind of wished that it would stay in 2015 the whole time and be about how Marty Jr became the bully and Griff became the wimp that Marty Jr picked on. And that Marty Sr's lesson was to convince his son that bullying isn't the way, and have be have a more heartfelt approach with a good lesson to be learned like the first BTTF. Not sure how that would work with there being a Buford Tanner in 1885 without it being anticlimactic. But still a good story for part 2.

Marty did the right decision to prevent the incident by needles leading to a reckless driving when the white silver cloud stops preventing a serious accident when needles evaded it as the fax note disappears Marty with Jennifer accomplish in the process so their future can look bright for years to come.

It goes through each new timeline, in chronological order, as they are created. Any point where a time jump occurs, a new timeline is created. So the first "original" timeline is from 1885, Clara dies, George is bullied in school then at work, mom is an alcoholic etc. up through the first part of the first movie (which is why they mentioned not knowing how 2015 would have been before any of the time jumps). Then the first time jump to 1955 happens, and a new series of events starts happening, thus timeline B, and so on with each subsequent time jump.

1 correction: After Marvin phoned Chuck, Marty only played about 2 bars of the original music before going off the rails. Chuck heard none of the lyrics and almost none of the original music. Marty's influence on Chuck writing the song would likely have been none at all.

I wonder why when Marty went back to rescue doc in 1855 and his foul destroyed on the way in, why didn't use the parts or foul from the one he had (that he hid and left for Marty). Writing this made me realize that if they did anything to the one doc had would not let Marty go back to rescue doc. But maybe the doc in 1955 could have fixed the foul part too.

All Doc would’ve had to tell Marty in order to avoid his kid from being arrested in the future,(which never made sense because it can be repeated anyway ) tell Marty do not get into a race with his truck it will cause an accident and chain events that screw up his and his future family’s life.

Doc goes to tell Clara goodbye but also winds up telling her the truth, and after she is heartbroken because she thinks he's lying, he then becomes despondent, passes out from a shot of whiskey, and delays their appointment with the train.

Theres 1 really depressing aspect to the first movie if you think about it. If there was only 1 timeline, the past would have already happened so the mall would already be named the Lone Pine at the beginning + all the other things Marty changed. Since everything is different after he returns to 1985, that means that this better 1985 is a new timeline. Which means that the original timeline where Doc dies and Marty just disappears forever still exists and is playing out in it's own timeline.

Because the fuel source for propulsion of the car itself was the problem, not getting the actual time circuits to work, I suppose. That's why he specifically pointed out that "it runs on steam!". I get what you're saying, though. I'm guessing the mechanics of the Flux Capacitor and time circuits aren't all that complicated since he originally came up with the idea back in 1955 and also repaired the lightning strike damage to the circuits using 1955 technology. I mean, he was able to construct an ice maker/refrigerator in 1885, so it's not out of the question he would be able to replicate other technology from the '50s. I believe part of what made it take so long to originally build the Capacitor was money, since he spent his entire fortune getting it to work. I'm also guessing he would thoroughly understand the mechanics of the Mr. Fusion and flight conversion as well because, being a curious scientist, he likely would have picked both elements apart to examine all of it in 2015 after getting the Deloreon upgraded.

What I really don't get is the fact that his mother, Lorraine, says these reasons about why she doesn't like Jennifer, in the original 1985. Yet when Marty goes back to the original 1955, she already seems like a promiscuous teenager. Whether it was supposed to be George or changed to Marty, she isn't the young wholehearted woman she claimed to be (I mean yes, what parent is gonna tell their kid(s) how they really were at their same age). Maybe you can say that Marty isn't the shy, timid, nonconfrontational teen George was, he was the complete opposite as to why she isn't the same way she was originally supposed to be, but she obviously took Marty's pants off while he's unconscious without her parents knowing, before even introducing herself to him, because she does throw them back to him and says: "Quick!!..Put your pants back on!" before he goes downstairs to meet everyone else..his future grandfather, grandmother, uncles, and aunt. She chases Marty the whole time, yet says girls chasing boys is terrible and is just asking for trouble. Then before going to the dance, Marty asks if she minds if they park then she responds: "I love to park" & "it's not like I never parked before" (in the original 1985 she said she has never done that, but obviously has) and she brings a liquor bottle and cigarettes with her. I mean, was she like that with George in the original past, you can't fully say it's Marty's personality that influences her to change from the time her dad hit Marty instead of George. She took his pants off, chases him the entire time, and says she has parked before, does anyone else see my point and the counter to those points that still don't make sense??

You made one little mistake in this video. You said that Doc Brown turned the letter over to the Postal Service and told them where and when to deliver it. He didn't turn it over to Postal Service, he turned it over to Western Union and it was Joe Flaherty from SCTV fame who delivered it. Joe Flaherty was also in Used Cars and Happy Gilmore to name a few.

Something most people never think about. There are TWO DELOREANS IN 1885! The one that brought Doc and the one that brought Marty. Not sure why that’s left out of the movie.

You're not thinking 4th dimensionally 🙂 Doc had already buried the original Delorean in the mine shaft for Marty and his 1955 counterpart to unearth in 1955 so that Marty could return to 1985 and Doc would remain in 1885. Obviously, that didn't happen. And once the fuel line was ruptured when Marty arrived in 1885, they couldn't get the other Delorean (with an intact fuel line) to use, because then it couldn't be unearthed in 1955, and Marty couldn't use it to return...well you get the idea. Plus, Doc had drained the fuel and unless he had saved it, there was no gasoline to be found in 1885, while it was plentiful in 1955, plus the tires had rotted, again no tires in 1885, but plenty in 1955, etc. etc.

Alternate theory.. Jennifer in BTTF 2 isn't a different person, (actress Elizabeth Shue), she just has a different dad and now has different facial features.. Due to Marty's interference in BTTF 1

4:23 If Marty goes to "back" to 1985, but in this new timeline the Doc has met Marty in 1955 and gained so much information about the DeLorean, why is the Doc doing the same experiment at the same exact time and place (albeit Single Pine Mall) as the Doc who never ran into Marty in 1955? Wouldn't the Doc be further ahead? Wouldn't things have changed more? Also, where does the Marty belonging to this timeline go to when fleeing the Libyans in the DeLorean? Does he go to 1955, or maybe not?
