I just made boots for myself. I did not watch any sort of tutorial. I just sort went for it based on what I thought would look correct. I think they turned out pretty okay. Figured I’d add what I did in here for anyone who might want to try it. Things you need: - A pair of black rain boots (make sure that they are the shiny ones, it makes the paint stick better) : $15-25 - A bright orange paint pen: $3-5 - A bottle of mod-podge or similar glues: $2-4 - A black sharpie: (you probably have one lying around somewhere) - A bottle of FolkArt multi surface satin acrylic paint in orange: $2 - A 2ft strip of rubber that's 2 inches wide: $5 on Amazon - A can of clear spray paint: $6 - A tube of super glue: $2 First and foremost, I find that paint doesn't really stick to rubber that well, like it did in the muck boots in this video. Having a glossy pair of rain boots is a lot better, because the paint will stick to the gloss a lot better than rubber. It acts as a sort of base layer. If you don't have a glossy pair, maybe coat them in some spray paint first. Next, I used a paint pen to sketch out the orange parts of the boot, and to do a first layer of orange. It doesn’t have to be the exact orange color you want, you will be going over it with the other paint. It just helps the acrylic paint to stick better and doesn’t show as much if you missed a spot in your other paint coats. Then, once the paint pen is dry, seal the paint with some mod-podge . This will help prevent the other paint from accidentally removing or smudging the paint pen. Now, paint over the orange with the satin paint, occasionally throwing in a layer of glue until you are satisfied with you paint job. Don’t worry about being messy. If you smudge it or go out of the lines, that okay, it'll get fixed later. After the paint dries, go over any parts that smudge or got messy with you sharpie. Clean up your lines and make everything all nice and neat. During this whole process, start on the rubber strips. Cut them in half, so you have two 1 inch strips that are 2 feet long. Give them a glossy coat and go over the same process that you did with the boots. If you still don't feel like the black of the rubber is the right shade you can sharpie or paint them all you want. Do not attach them yet. Once the boots and the rubber strips are all done and dry, spray paint the individually to seal everything in place. It's easier to do the rubber strip without attaching it to the boot first, because you don’t have to worry about trying to get the part of the boot that's underneath the strip. Finally, after the spray paint is done, attach the rubber strips to the top of the boot, in order to make the top of the boot and the little flaps that come off of it with super glue. Mine turned out great, and, if anyone should try this, I hope yours do too!

I have recently discovered that when working with stretchy-er/knit types of fabric, a ballpoint needle is needed for the sewing machine. So you don't need to handsew it, just switch out the needle :) hope this helps! P.s. my handsewing doesnt look too good, so I try to use the machine whenever possible.
