The ENTIRE Black Mirror Timeline (w/ Season 6)

Sorry last time…similar to my prior comments, Waldo Moment and Shut up and dance seem to take place the same time the are release. What did you see that you see a 3-4 year difference? I think it would be a lot of work, But perhaps a video that goes over the clues/evidence for the timeline (like a Waldo sticker, or news scroll). To make the video shorter leave out the whole episode synopsis…if you need help let me know!

For all your comments: The episode Smithereens tells us it takes place in 2018, and that Michael Callow is still Prime Minister, but based on hashtags, the pig incident was in the very near past. We also learn about Callie’s divorce in Shut Up and Dance, which places all three episodes in roughly the same timeframe. White Bear takes place after White Christmas based on a headline about the trial in the episode. You could argue both could take place earlier than I placed them, but based on the technology in the episodes, I gave them time. The Waldo placement mostly comes down to how little we hear about Waldo as a political character until later-placed episodes. There may be another reason I put it there but at the moment I can’t find it. Joan is Awful has to take place after Entire History of You, as it references grains being an outdated technology. Grains are introduced in Rachel Jack and Ashley Too, which takes place roughly around the time of Hated in the Nation based on references to Tusk. You could absolutely argue it taking place in 2023, but given how much technology would have to be introduced and obsolete in such a short period of time, I gave it room. @@sheetg i appreciate the recap! I always felt that episodes like The Entire History of You took place the near distant imagined future. So like for TEHoY, released in 2011, it would take place like 5-10 years later….I realize that the technological progression doesn’t perfectly line up with that interpretation. It’s still fun to piece together the hints and Easter eggs. Thanks for the great video!

@@sheetg I really like this discussion. So a few more things… I think it’s very likely that Callows divorce occurred several years after the pig. The had an unhappy marriage but his wife did put on a good face for at least a year… I think the reference to White Bear in White Christmas was for an appeal. That could be while she is serving her sentence in the “park”. I think shut up and dance references the White Bear trial. So slightly after the time of SUaD, the White Bear “park” opens. Maybe? I agree with Entire History of You being referenced on Joan is Awful. In my mind, Joan is around 2023 and Entire History is around 2018. Also, I think the Ashley Too tech is more “cookie” technology (vs grain)….dang this is hard! Lol

Also, trying to remember the tech in The National Anthem…I think someone took a photo of Rod Dangerous with a flip phone. So I think 2011 makes sense. White Bear phones were basic but those were probably for the “park” only Shut up and Dance I think it was smaller iPhones… 15 Million Merits is tough. It could be like post-Metal Head given the tech in relatively rudimentary. Or it’s just an alternative universe meant to be a metaphor of the current time

I think that one can definitely connect the ending of The Waldo Moment with 15 Million Merits, probably in a time like the 2060s. Both totally show the progressively dystopic evolution of society with the Cult-like adoration of characters like Waldo or Abby from 15MM. Overall great video! I think that this timeline is the most accurate in terms of depicting the advancement of technology, like the Memory Devices or the Transfer of Consciousness. I also love how I was glued to the Synopsys you gave of each episode even when I have already seen each episode like two times lol.

I always thought episodes like USS Callister and San Junipero took place later just based on their technology. It makes sense 2036 is the latest considering the 80s, 90s and early 2000s but I always thought that it just had a bunch of decades they didn’t show.

I might be wrong, but I think there is actually a line of dialogue that specifies the complexity of the mission and need for human response to emergency, which is why they need double human operators on the ship. Do correct me if I made this up myself

I believe the show 15 million merits survives many years as it is a very popular show in the BM universe. It exists in White Christmas, and it lived all the way till the 22nd century,

Black museum was always one of my favs, the story of the wifes consciousness in that teddy bear was just so horrifying to me. Could you imagine? I wouldn't of agreed to be in my husbands head in the first place but to just...throw her away like that...and then the new woman he meets being SO MEAN for like no reason, shes not a threat bitch, shes a teddy bear! So yeah this one just ugh...and the poor prisoner thats trapped in an endless cycle of torture...ahh. Lol theyre all fucked in there own way, the bear one just got me.

Nice attempt, but I feel there is too much disconnect between the episodes to assume all happen in the same reality. Cleanly some are connected, but others aren't. For example at the end of Demon 79, irs implied the world is destroyed by a nuclear war... and this does not fit with any other episode

If you watch the episode, it’s apparent most things (including the ending) take place in Nida’s head. There are also 3 separate references to Demon 79 in other episodes. All episodes fit cleanly in the same timeline except for Nosedive, 15Million Merits, and Men Against Fire.

@@tyfarnsworth3176 I think the only reference in other episodes are about Michael Smart becoming PM, which she imagined too, but it could be a possibility that out of all the imaginations she had, this one turned out to be the truth, as its easy to imagine someone like Michael Smart could become a Hitler like figure and would eventually cause apocalypse with metal dogs, that idea of metal dogs might have came from the game made by Tuckersoft (as shown in Bandersnatch). Bandersnatch takes place in 1984, Demon 79 takes place in 1979, The game metalhead was already hit game by 1984, so it has to be released before 1979, long enough for Nida Huq to hallucinate about it. Coincidentally, that game might have inspired the design of actual robot dogs in the future, which was approved by Michael Smart.
