I was rather hoping to be able to slap on some new pads and rotors and be on my way but the car had other plans. Additionally I take some time to troubleshoot the low compression on cylinder #3.

First off I am enjoying watching, I have had three of these starting with an 82 then an 84 and now an 85 which I still have. Wish I still had the 84. For some unknown reason I parked my 85 for twelve years that was a mistake. Three years ago I got it out of my 1913 wood bank barn and have gone through everything in the past three years. I now feel I can drive it anywhere well almost anywhere. Just a tip when replacing the master cylinder and booster adjust the clearance before you put it on the car. One mm if I remember. Good luck take you time and take a break from it once in a while.

I have a 77 also. I just did the brakes. I used electrolysis instead of a wire wheel to remove the rust on all the stuff not being replaced. Look forward to seeing how your project proceeds.

Great job and please keep posting these! I’m in the same process as you with a 1978 Spider and am pretty much at the same point as you are. Watching one of your earlier videos, when I saw the “Magic Oil Puddle” around the plug for cylinder number one, I said “Hey! That Looks Familiar!”. Mine’s in the shop for an engine rebuild right now and as soon as I get it back, I’ll be hitting the brakes.

I can speak from experience that once the brakes are all sorted on a spider they are way more than sufficient for such a lite car, also I would suggest a braided stainless line set that includes the line over the axel, and removing the brake compinsater is a good way to improve braking.

To get the cylinder out on the caliper, just use compressed air in the bleeder hole with the banjo bolt on. It'll pop right out. Keep up the good work!

Oh man I wish. The bleeders all broke off even with heat and oil. I put about 100 psi of compressed air in the banjo bolt inlet with no results. In the long run new calipers are probably a good idea anyway.

I rather enjoy your video's I also have a 1977 Spider my big problem is I have is electrical no brake lights no tac no gauges at all. The only thing that works is the speedo but I'll get it figured out in do time. I do still drive it around the block a few times a week till I finish the electrical. Keep posting your work it gives me encouragement to get mine done.
