The Le Mans disaster only killed one driver, the rest were in the crowd because the engine block and hood flew through the grandstands and supposedly decapitated around 10 fans. Would be an interesting one to react to

When he said 82 people died it was probably spectators that were beside the track just for info.

It was indeed spectators. The car hit another car with a sloped rear, causing it to go airborne… right into the stands. It cartwheeled through the crowd, shredding as it did so, and causing fires. Worse, the car was made of a metal alloy (magnesium, I think?) that was pretty much impossible to put out when on fire, so it kept burning for a while. I absolutely do not recommend looking up video of the accident. It is horrifying, and it’s understandable why Mercedes noped out of racing for decades afterward.

Mechanical issues can get better as the season goes on. Teams can figure out what's causing the issue and work on it during the week

F1 is in perpetual research and development stance. They are allow to make big experiments between two seasons but they should present a safe rolling car when season begin. This implies some minor technical problems sometimes for some teams during season but in general all is ok. For Senna crash it was primary mechanical failure that can't happen today with new materials as Carbone and titanium.

ofc and they can always get worse. but that’s part of the sport. not only who’s the fastest team, but the most reliable (consistent)

Plus these days they’re so efficient they can stretch out three engines for a whole season. Back in the 80s the had a new engine for qualifying and a new engine for every single race!

Because cars had to run on highest performance while maintaining driver safety and under max weight some places components are thin and fragile because it has to be light so one little mistake can lead to mechanical failure. Mistakes during construction, Setting, or the driver overuse of the tires, brakes, clutch ect...

Some extra added context on a couple of points: Renault and Alonso dominating in 2005 was largely part of the FIA changing rules drastically to hurt Ferrari's dominance. Ferrari used light fuel loads and faster tires (that would be eaten up quicker as well) to go a lot faster, with the tradeoff they'd have to sometimes do an extra pit stop. So a rule was introduced to not allow tire changes during a race. Bridgestone tires weren't good over long runs, so the Bridgestone teams like Ferrari were slower than teams with Michelin tires like Renault. It also led to the debacle that was the 2005 US Grand Prix, where the Michelin tires weren't safe to run on the track so the Michelin teams pulled out after the formation lap, leaving just six cars to compete in the race (which, IIRC, was Ferrari's only win that year). The tire rule was removed after that season. Schumacher retired after 2006, sick of the rules changes. While retired, he had an accident (can't recall the details) and never quite fully recovered. But Mercedes came back to F1 in 2010, buying Brawn after their dominant 2009 season. They brought in Schumacher to help get the team going. Mercedes wasn't great from the start, and Schumacher wasn't full speed, but it did lay the groundwork for the team becoming the dominant force they were with Hamilton and the rules changes. Also kind of amusing to note that Nico Rosberg retired after winning the 2016 championship because it took everything he had to win that one title over Hamilton. Man had to dedicate his life to F1. Funny extra note on Vettel's Toro Rosso win: It meant Red Bull's "junior team" won a race before Red Bull themselves. Oh, and the Mercedes Le Mans crash... The number was so high because the car hit another with a sloped rear that caused it to launch into the air, sending it into the crowd. Almost all of the fatalities were spectators. It was an absolutely horrific crash, and while the footage is out there, I do not recommend watching it at all. The worst thing is, the race kept going, and a lot of the drivers had no idea of the impact of what happened. Some teams found out and withdrew during the race, because they didn't think it was right to keep going. As for why someone got the idea to add "wings" to the front and back of the cars? It's not just for speed (in a straight line). It adds downforce, to give them better control through the turns. Which is why the teams will adjust the wings depending on the track they're at, to trade off speed and cornering ability. Final bit: The cars are really good mechanically these days, it's actually pretty rare to see a mechanical failure, but they're still super complicated machines, and one poorly manufactured part or something installed just a bit not right can cause a big impact. So the chance is always there, even with all the testing they do and how far they've come.

Lewis and Nico raced together in Mercedes for 3 years 13-16 he made a mistake... Lew won 14, 15, Nico in 16 then the retirement there was no back to back in the championship he must be meant the races. I hope he did! It was wild. The 2016 Spanish GP.... You saw a glimpse of.. Watch it it live...

Mechanical problems will always gonna be high, because regulations change every few years and teams always using latest tech, so they never have time to perfect it and it becomes never ending cycle, but tech that they used before slowly comes to everyday cars and they are perfected there that's why we have everyday reliable cars, not in all cases but in some cases. but from other side F1 cars became more reliable, but not to the extent as everyday cars.

@@nice900 What a stupid argument you don't make a video yourself to criticise another one. Also you know nothing about him he could be idk Toto Wolff himself... Also its clear that the video has its bias solely by the selection of topics. I mean he left out huge parts of the F1 history for example: The FISA FOCA "war", Jackie Stewart (which is ridiculous), the first Turbo era, he didn't even mention that Prost won 4 championships. It's very recency biased the whole video.

Goes without saying but yeah this video skips over so many major things let alone cover any details, and even that which it does mention are for a brief moment, this video probably is not the best for people who don't know much about the sport. Kind of tries too hard to he funny, in my opinion. Some references don't make sense unless you follow thr sport.
