This is absolutely insane! I started studying and got baptized while I was in undergrad. Less than a year later, I was ready to quit because they were encouraging me to quit school and enter the full-time ministry. They also discouraged independent thinking. Being a lifelong scholar, I was appalled. ETA: I was ready to quit WT, not school! I faded from the Kingdom Hall and graduated college.

Have u noticed that the direction this all goes in is for humans to be less than they were created to be. So the God given gifts and talents of induviduals are to be set aside...for a mess of porridge.... The creation is worshipping God. Pick up a fallen leaf. A seeming nothing. The fact that it even exists praises God. Those whose lives cause others to lift hands to God in praise through their gifts and characterare to be stopped...but by who..not God? This World and its values and deposing ruler are brought pain by those whose lives and talents point to Him. The Kingdom will be consumated. God will dwell on this earth and his people will see his face Rev 21- 22

Wally, you freaking rock! I've learned so much about this org that I've been a part of for several decades, and I feel ashamed of myself for not fully investigating it prior to joining, as well as staying around a PIMO. So tired of not living my authentic life, but fear of losing my adult kids keeps me. For now! If I had of seen any pictures of the founding men, and especially had I heard their ranting and yelling in the mic talks, I would have passed on becoming one of them fo sho! I get terrible vibes from them, and with good reason as we now know! Thank you for all your hard work, I hope you're doing well!

@itsjustme6315 Oh! Oh please don't feel shame! Look at your intentions. You had the best of intentions. You were moved by powerful persuasion, by the desire to do the right thing, by wanting to do the best for your family. We all go through this life doing the best we know to do at the time, making good decisions, making mistakes, and hoping to learn from it all. Please show yourself grace and understanding. As for your children, maybe you can start by offering gentle questions that enlist their logic. Give it time. 💗

I had a truly rare mom & dad- both JW's who met at a convention in 1947 and were married over 70 years, but who chose to have 3 kids (when not "waiting for Armageddon" to do so was a MAJOR taboo), resolutely stood up to congregation disapproval, and enabled my earning a university education with honors. Why? So that I'd have the means to support a family, which I do now, and which they considered to be every bit as godly a pursuit as knocking on doors. I thank them in my thoughts every day for their having given me the freedom to choose, and to learn.

Okay so now that I have fully watched this and had more time to process, I again want to thank you Wally. This is an excellent breakdown of Watchtower's history and their perspective on education. I left this crazy religion/cult in 2011. I was raised in it. Since leaving, I beat breast cancer and at age 50, I went back to college and I now have my Bachelor of Science in International Relations (Magna Cum Laude) and I am now pursuing a Masters degree in Public Health because I want to HELP others who do not have resources to SURVIVE and improve healthcare for ALL. I have gone to Capitol Hill in the U.S. twice now to advocate for cancer patients and survivors. I am deeply thankful for these opportunities. 🙏🏽 One of my deeper pain points with this horrible cult (I have many) is their position on education and what it took from me and how it has hurt my family. These FACTS need to be consistently AMPLIFIED. Watchtower needs to be exposed for exactly what they are and what they are not.

At some point (I agree it will be soon) watchtower will realize if they are discouraging higher education constantly, they will have fewer and fewer educated members in this upcoming generation. And with fewer and fewer newcomers, this means they won’t have many if at all, educated members to serve for free for them in departments like their legal department, medical, Ect. If they ever do make a change it will be to ultimately benefit them by encouraging their members to get an education so they can use them for free labor.

Where in the Bible does it say not to seek higher education? I remember that they said that reading the awake magazine was likened to a college degree! I was going to go to a prestigious art school, but the org dissuaded the opportunity cause the world was going to end. I'm so glad you are doing this video on education. Rolf Furulli was a Prof, while being an elder and it didn't affect his faith. And they didn't bother him until he wrote the book about his beloved religion, instead of praising him for his love - they kicked him to the curb! Just like the shooter in Germany, he warned them that something bad would happen if they dfd him after his book was released. So those deaths are on the orgs head, along with all the other people who were affected by their rules. RIP to all those needless deaths!

And Yes, you are correct...they will be glad that people in the medical field study bacteria and viruses for a living when they get old and infected or have to fight serious diseases. They would have a brother or sister in the faith working to help them in the hospitals and medical laboratories (like blood bank) if the governing body allowed their congregants to get those skills/education.

I think now that the GB is making some changes maybe. They need Business Administrators, Engineers, Attorneys, for their Real Estate interests. Doctors, Psychologists, probably still not so much as they believe they won’t need them after Armageddon into Paradise, and Doctors would surely not go along with the No Blood Doctrine. They simply use Elders for mental challenges and don’t believe in Psychology, but anything that is Business or Labor intensive that will benefit the Org, I think they will start allowing Education for. They’ve got to change! 😮

I used to attend, on and off, JW bible studies, meetings, conventions, and Sunday Watchtower studies for probably 20 years. Never got baptized. When I was nearing completion of High School, the "brothers" and "sisters" tried to talk me out of going to University. I was very interested in what they taught, but never completely hooked nor indoctrinated. While listening to this, I suddenly realised that, for me, the JW organisation seems like a huge Ponzi scheme. The primary purpose for its existence is to continuously recruit new members (door to door canvassing), who, after they are baptized, sell magazines, go door to door to recruit more members, and the baptized members have to pay monthly contributions to the organisation (just like the churches). And the quarterly, bi-annual and annual conventions are huge money generating events. Most of the foods sold are donated by the members, and sold for profit, which again goes into the big pot. Interesting thought. I loved sitting on the fringe looking in, never fully committed.

People who ran administrative branches of the empire were the emperor's slaves, there was even a school for them, the Schola Palatina at the Palatine Hill.

Knowing that college would not be in my future. My little kid dreams - doctor, meteorologist, etc. Were just pipe dreams. So infuriating now. Hmm. 🤔 what if they open their own - “technical/skills training college” ?

Knorr was too busy pushing the org toward a business model to write too much. Most of what was written during his administration was done by Fred Franz (a/k/a The Watchtower's Oracle).

Charles Taze Russell had a limited education. "Russell said that he had attended public school for seven years, having left when he was about fourteen years of age, after which he received instruction through private tutors."

Question for you Wally: How consistent is the JW movement across all areas? I ask as in my country certain branches of the church can lag behind others in how quickly (or at all!) they adopt new ideas. Are there ‘branches’ of the Watchtower out there that still hold tight to shunning etc and might there one day be a split? Be interested to hear your thoughts.

Could it be they deleted the video merely because it featured Tony Morris?

I wish it was more widely known how big and longlasting the impact of "not pursuing higher education" actually is for JW kids. It is the thing I regret the most - the fact that I did listen to those elders, and drop out of university. Which prevented me from getting the education that would allow me to get a job that I actually like.

I never knew that the anti education stance started back with Russell. No wonder my father was so gung ho on homeschooling me.

1925; millions of them will never die. Jimmy Carter didn't make it (RIP). My brother's name is James and his friends used to call him Jimmy Carter. Can you imagine he and Ronald Reagan and William McKinley and Teddy Roosevelt and James Madison and Thomas Jefferson and heck, Genghis Khan and Plato and Julius Caesar and Mao and Charles Manson waking up into paradise and Abraham walks up to them going hey dudes, I'm your leader now, i don't know anything about any of you but god says I'm the man now.
