What I want more than just secret missions are secret community puzzle events. (like Corridors of Time puzzle and Niobe Labs and more. I started watching you after you covered the events of the entire week that the Corridors of Time puzzle event was playing out. During that week, while I was trying to d 'my' part to try to solve the puzzle even though I was 4 to 5 days late on it, I was introduced to the person in my network of discord communities I am on; who has become one of my best friends, and is the person I play Destiny 2 the most with. Even though I was late on it and felt that the work I was turning in was not that helpful because by the time I got in on it, the community was looking for specific pieces of the map that was left to find; I still felt great about doing it because I felt like I was a part of something much bigger than myself, I had a lot of fun, and in the end, I met a great friend. After that point, I have been following a lot more Destiny 2 content creators than I did before just to stay on top of the news and be ready to jump on to it the next time a secret community puzzle event occurred. something that never happened. Every year since i was excitedly awaiting the next secret puzzle event that the community would just stumble upon, we thought one was supposed to occur last year in the Season of the Splicer, and nothing happened. This year due to all the health situations going on in my life and trying to recover my social life from the damage the pandemic and social isolation caused to it, i wasn't even expecting one, however, the Telesto fiasco of the last few days that in the end was ultimately disappointing and felt hollow; it shows the community desperately wants to find a hidden secret in the game that will unlock a puzzle for the whole community rally behind. I think that is something that the whole Destiny 2 community is 'secretly' wishing for, a wish that for now seems just to be empty. I will continue playing Destiny 2 for the great lore that i have fallen in love with, and the great story that is being told, but i miss the events that bind us together as a community. I just want to take a moment to thank you for being the community's loudspeaker and showing what this great community is all about, and the great things this community has experienced. Thank you.

"Everything feels like it's following a business model; the magic of the universe in Destiny is slipping away, instead for a more corporate game." I feel that. Instead of the "oh my gosh what the frick I got an exotic" moments, we have lost sector farming. Instead of saving Strange Coins for weeks to buy a single exotic from Xur, we buy his entire stock with pin money. Instead of the wonder that comes with exploring the universe, Bungie hurries new players to the endgame so that they can GRIND GRIND GRIND. I miss when Destiny had that magical ring to it, that way it made you feel like a small player in a big universe, the times when you felt lucky and grateful to get two garbage legendaries in an evening of gaming. When you'd lose your mind after getting ANY exotic. Now we have exotics in abundance, Common and Uncommon weapons all but deleted from the game, and what was once magical and mysterious is reduced to all the wonder of a corporate 9-5 job. Well, guardian, it's a new season! Up and at 'em! You got exactly eight or so new guns to grind god rolls for, a dungeon or raid to farm until your brain bleeds through your eyeballs, your power level to get up for GMS to run so that you can get guns you'll never use, and, best of all, a title that you'll dump next season! I remember when Destiny was about the journey, not the destination. The experiences we had, the stories we tell, the friends we made. The rich world we played in. But now it seems like Destiny is turning into a slightly more fun second job. Bungie, if you're listening: in the end, what we want most out of destiny is the sense of wonder, excitement, and immersion that it offers. We like god rolls and will grind for them, but that takes back seat to things like community puzzles, secret missions, campaigns, the universe, and that feeling of novelty. That was what Destiny 1 was all about. Will Destiny 2 follow the same path?
@RarePotions2 жыл бұрын
As someone who has played off and on since the start of D1, Feels like you took my exact thoughts straight out of my brain. EXTREMELY well said. I hope Bungie looks back on what made Destiny 1 feel so magical and can capture even a fraction of that magic and put it back into D2. The game in its current state to so unbelievably monotonous and repetitive following the exact same formula for what now feels like years upon years. We DESPERATELY need a shake-up in seasonal structure and go back to surprising the playerbase with new unexpected things and events that can really pull the community of this game together. We need some of that mystery back again.

the beginning of corridors of time really felt like something worthwhile and well thought out, but the end of the puzzle event ran like it was an uneeded test with a already known reward that wasnt worthwhile. The mystique of secret missons is "The Mystery" and being armed with only the knowledge that its a new area and it might have a super secret loot drop at the end, knowing ahead of time what that reward is ruins the enjoyment a bit and the last true "secret misson" being the corridor of time community event proves it

Could be related to the "testing a new type of patch/no secrets" patch, but Telesto may have been a test case for them being able to change things in game without people knowing what changed. Yes there was a patch I think the day it got the "star charts", but the next reset it got the extra explosions with no patch and no indication that it would change again. While a whole mission might be a little harder to bait and switch like that, I think this is a potential sign they could be investing more ways to make game changes on the server end rather than the client. This could benefit secret things, but it also could bolster their ability to do live events, etc. That or I'm delusionally hopeful haha

With the limited game design I've done, I think it actually would be possible to have a secret mission that is hidden. Bungie has classified raid weapons and other items so we can't access them. Which having some newly added classified information would probably be very suspicious so they would have to have someway to sneak it in (potentially a season early) and then add the actual assets in a season later - I don't know how their database works but I'm 99% certain that it would end up saying modified which again, sus. But this next option may be what we need - Bungie has been putting out patches practically every week, imagine they added in the exotic and secret during one of these hotfixes but did not put it in the patch notes. Especially if it were later in the season (like imagine next Tuesday's hotfix added one, NO ONE would be looking at that point). And adding classified information at that point may be sus, but when the community finds a secret, then we all know that its something. Honestly, thats the only way that I can imagine Bungie adding a secret anymore - late in the season sneak it in during a hotfix.

Dataminers and streamers are the ones that caused this. I think people, this video included, place too much emphasis on the secrecy of not knowing the thing is coming. To be honest, it doesn't matter if KNOW a mission is coming... the important part is I don't know where it will be hidden, or how to get it going. The fun is in the hunt, trying to solve the mystery and figure out WHERE the mission is. Like the example of Harbinger, if they had just left some gold feathers scattered around the world instead of pulling us by the nose with a straight up QUEST, it would've been way more interesting. They can put that there's a mission coming in the API all they want, but if players still have to piece things together and figure out how to access the thing, I think that's still a success, because THAT'S the part that people really enjoy and find engaging.

I believe on the current model, secret missions have been replaced by dungeons / reprised raids. Think back to year 4. We had a "secret" mission during Hunt and Chosen. However when Splicer came out, we didn't get an exotic mission because VOG returned. In year 5, we only got Vox during Risen because WQ (and VOW by extension) is viewed as a separate content drop. Then, during Haunted we got Duality, and Plundered got KF. Unsurprisingly, we did not receive a secret mission or really any exotic mission during these seasons. Looking forward the only time I expect to see "secret" mission will be during major DLC releases. Hopefully whatever comes out along Lightfall will be better than Vox.

You're right, the API and OOB people kind of ruin it. I get it though, and I think it's on Bungie to figure out the solution, not the OOB players to stop OOBing. Harbinger didn't count for me because it was so tightly interwoven into the story of the season that it was impossible for it to be "secret". But Presage is what really made it come alive again for me. I knew the secret mission was on the roadmap, but I didn't know when. And that they made clever use of a place no one would think to look OOB (Arms Dealer!) to kick it off, and then hid the zone in space (somewhere no OOBer can get to, or if they can they would have to know it was there first) tells me they're still trying. I have to imagine that the OG Black Spindle, Whisper, and Zero Hour have to be some of the most fun things to develop. I loved Presage though. I played it many times. It hit the perfect middle point between intense Whisper/ZH, and lowkey Harbinger/Bad Juju. I had hope this week that Telesto was going to be something. I still have hope that the weird patch they put in and the Telesto joke are tests to see what they can hide and what they can get away with in terms of these secrets, because the game is better when they exist. Not because they exist forever, but because they get the community excited when they release.

Imagen if there's a secret in the emblen that unlocks a mission? When completed the emblem becomes animated, we get a animated exotic ship and pocket infinity. 🤣 That would be awesome.

Surprised you left out the original outbreak prime secret quest line. It has imo some of the craziest codes to break.

I never thought of the missions after Outbreak Perfected as secret missions, they didn't feel like one, I was under the impression they where just normal exotic missions.

I really don't want an annual secret mission. They should just throw one into the game every few years cause that keeps the thill about them at a pinnacle. An annual mission wpuld just be a little like figuering out the meta every season. Like sure it is still kinda fun but also always kinda the same every time.

I mean, we got the vexcalibur with lightfall, that counts, right?

I thought they said in the light lightfall event that they wouldn't vault any more content going forward? Or did they mean starting then?

Love to see necrochasm come to d2. Always like the idea of it but unfortunately didn't start playing d1 till after it had come and gone . I was hoping to see zhalo come back for arc 3.0 but it didn't .

A way that they could do it might be by putting the secret mission in but not the gun or catalyst and having the mission give some unique but mundane item that people would overlook and then anyone who got that item would later get access to a quest when the gun was released
@PulseRep2 жыл бұрын
a idea they could do to keep it secret: for example they could place a feather like they did before on the map. but not lead it to anything no quest nothing it just goes into your inventory. then when a good amount of people find it up date the game for the next quest. just go little by little.

They took out all the old missions and have refused to do anything new. Trying to get friends into the game now has made me realise how shitty the game has started to be. I can't show them the Whisper mission or take them to get Outbreak. There's no free campaign to start with, and the barrier for entry to the newest campaign is really high compared to other games that sell themselves as "free-to-play". Fucking content vault turned the game into a husk of itself, and Bungie hasn't even tried to fill it back up.

What/how was xenophage found since it required entering a code? I wasn’t around on its launch to know - if we’re counting presage/harbringer then shouldn’t xeno kinda count too?

They can easily keep a secret mission reward secret just classify it in database like raid exotic. Easy and don’t put catalyst in game till after.

If you don't think that at some point they're going to slightly tweak the Whisper and Zero Hour missions, and then give them back to us as "brand new" content, you haven't been paying attention.

I'd take them both back as they were, maybe with a little added enemies now that we've gotten stronger. They were both absolutely bangers, imo

Given that Bungie is looking to introduce loadouts in Lightfall, perhaps it’s their way of preparing to bring back secret missions. You bring in loadouts, apps like DIM and Ishtar lose a big part of their reason for being around, and then you have more freedom with how you manage the API, since players will still be able to change loadouts at will. Not really sure if that’s feasible and my little theory there has some holes for sure. Just spitballing something.

I like them. What I don't like was time gated master versions to get the catalyst. Just let it be a master version. To many screw ups with timers in in destiny. I never liked them in missions dating back to the secret mission for black spindle.

I’ve never been able to play a secret mission, so I’d love to find one on my own. But allow me to ask this, as another stupid guy who knows nothing about game dev: why is it that thru API we can find secret missions/loot (take a look at Schrödinger’s Gun emblem) months ahead of time, yet we don’t know what kind of loot is held in expansions? Is it just all unloaded at once with them? Just wondering why we never see people saying “HERE’S HOW MANY WEAPONS ARE RELEASING FOR (expansion) AND WHAT THEY LOOK LIKE, PLUS NEW EXOTICS” and such. Even finding collectibles as well. Any input?
@trollfacepanda57662 жыл бұрын
Even tho the secret mission do take a lot of development time and might not be worth it in the short term, as we see by these type of video's they are definitely worth it in the long term. And the whole API thing is not that bad IMO like yeah sure can see a catalyst for a weapon we don't have but we have no idea how we get or or any idea what the mission will be, what the story behind it is and what it looks like. They also really shouldn't make a trailer for the "secret" weapons, just let us discover the quest on our own or though some story dialog and *boom* with a small amount of effort you just made the mission a little more secret.

Whenever bungie says something isn't returning. That something usually returns. Twilight Garrison wasn't suppose to return and although we haven't gotten the actual exotic back. Arc titans got a variation of it with arc 3.0. Secret missions will return, its part of Destiny's identity.
